She meets various social misfits; men and women who just cannot adjust themselves to life, who need the help Mrs. Savage can provide.  Her self-seeking stepchildren are driven to distraction by their vain efforts to browbeat her, but she preserves her equanimity and leads them on a merry chase. At last her friends conspire to rid her of the stepchildren, and through their simple belief in the justice of her cause, they enable Mrs. Savage to carry out her plans.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE Runs April 3-5

CCM_25th Annual Putnam CountyTHE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
Presented by UC College-Conservatory of Music
April 3-5
University Heights

Directed by Vince DeGeorge

Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grownups who have barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. A hilarious overachievers’ angst against the spelling championship of a lifetime, this Tony Award-winning musical is the unlikeliest of hits about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky, yet charming, cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and the Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
