VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE on April 19-28

Oxact_ VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKEVANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE
Oxford Area Community Theatre
April 19-28
Oxford Community Arts Center

Directed by R. Scott Shriver

Chekhov is alive and well in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where adult siblings Vanya and Sonia reside in their old family home, mourning their lost dreams and missed opportunities. When their often-wrong, fortune-telling maid warns of impending dangers, and their movie star sister, Masha, arrives unexpectedly with young, sexy, boy toy, Spike, the family is launched into a rollicking weekend of one-upmanship, exposed nerves, and a lot of broken mugs. With wit and absurdity, Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike blends Chekhov’s famous ennui with the modern-day toils and troubles of celebrity, social networking, and age into a laugh-out-loud comedy that will tickle your funny bone and stimulate your mind.

NEWSIES Runs April 18-June 9

LAC_Newsies logoNEWSIES
La Comedia Dinner Theatre
April 18-June 9
[Springboro]

This Disney film turned Tony-winning Broadway hit inspires everyone to fight for what’s right and seize the day.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions.

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, NEWSIES features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” “Newsies” is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family.

Cedarville University
April 4-14
DeVries Theatre Thrust [Cedarville]

A contemporary musical by the writing team of James Valcq and Fred Alley, this is the story of Percy, a newcomer to the Wisconsin town of Gilead, who arrives with a secret. She has been recently paroled from prison and chose to settle in the town of Gilead for a second chance at life, believing the town must hold promise since its very name seems to offer hope and healing. As she is gradually befriended by the regulars at the town restaurant, she becomes especially close to Hannah, the owner of The Spitfire Grill. Hannah’s efforts to sell the grill have not been successful, but Percy, short for “Perchance,” comes up with an idea that not only saves the restaurant but leads to a redemption of sorts, for her and others, in surprising ways.

THE ZOO STORY Runs March 29-31

TRT_Zoo Story logoTHE ZOO STORY
The Regular Theatre
March 29-31
Graydon on Main [Over-the-Rhine]

Directed by Hannah Sgambellone
Produced by Kyle Parker Daniels, Ellie Conniff, and Hannah Sgambellone

Cast: Micah Price & Sam Martini

The Regular Theatre proudly presents Edward Albee’s first dramatic work, The Zoo Story, in it’s original one-act form. The story follows the mild-mannered publisher Peter, and his chance encounter with Jerry, the vagrant that’s “full of stories”, among darker interests. Sam Martini and Micah Price will be performing both roles in rep over the weekend, in an engaging examination of isolation and the failure to communicate.
