Xenia Area Community Theatre
Aug. 20-22
[Xenia]

The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing miss the excitement of the old days when they were saving convents and reuniting long-lost families. So when they learn that the orphanage where Paul and Kate grew up is in peril, they can’t wait to come to the rescue. Everyone pitches in to mount a play to raise money, but it’s no easy feat when Kate’s expecting any day, Sally’s hiding from stage-fright-stricken Paul after another flight from the altar, Mother Superior’s acting is unexpectedly narcoleptic, and the sisters’ award-winning wine keeps getting switched with the grape juice.

8/26/21 Covid-19 Policy: Masks are not required, but are optional. The theater is open at full capacity.

IT’S ONLY A PLAY Runs Aug. 27-Sept. 5

BCT_Its Only a Play logoIT’S ONLY A PLAY
Beavercreek  Community Theatre
Aug. 27-Sept. 5
[Beavercreek]

Directed by Debra Kent

Cast: Jim Walker as James Wicker, Melissa Ertsgaard as Julia Budder, Matt Lindsay as Peter Austin, Lynn Vanderpool as Virginia Noyes, Brandon Shockney as Frank Finger, Saul Caplan as Ira Drew & Titus Unger as Gus P. Head

It’s the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and the wealthy producer Julia Budder is throwing a lavish party in her lavish Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs in the bedroom, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews. The group includes the excitable playwright; the possibly unstable wunderkind director; the pill-popping leading lady, treading the boards after becoming infamous in Hollywood; and the playwright’s best friend, for whom the play was written but who passed up this production for a television series. Add to this a drama critic who’s panned the playwright in the past and a new-in-town aspiring singer, and you have a prime recipe for the narcissism, ambition, childishness, and just plain irrationality that infuse the theatre—and for comedy. But don’t worry: This play is sure to be the hit they have all been hoping for.

8/26/21 Covid-19 Policy: The Board of the Beavercreek Community Theatre believes that it is our responsibility to keep our audience members, staff, cast and crew members and volunteers as safe as possible during this time of increasingly communicable and deadly Covid variants.  Therefore we are requiring that masks be worn by all audience members and others when in our lobby and audience section of the theater, except when actively consuming food and drink. If you happen to forget your mask we will have some on hand.  Hand sanitizers will also be available in the lobby.  Our cast and crew are fully vaccinated and will not be required to wear masks on or back stage.  We are looking forward to seeing you this season!
Note: Always verify the latest policy changes before attendance.

The award-winning musical “Spring Awakening” is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the 1891 German play Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind, whose work, which often criticizes bourgeois attitudes (particularly towards sex), is considered to anticipate expressionism and was influential in the development of theatre of the absurd. Wedekind was also a life-long guitar player and surely would have been a rock star today. Hence, the 21st-century musical blends the 19th-century play with an alternative rock score.
