THE DINING ROOM Runs Dec. 2-17

TCP_The Dining Room logo

THE DINING ROOM
Tri-County Players
Dec. 2-17
Bell Tower Pavilion [Evendale]

Directed by David Roth

Cast: Rachel Brzezinski, Robert Buchtman, Trisha Coopet, Abby Farmer, Tess Greweling, Brandon Hester, Max Metsch & Clayton Schmohe

The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is a mosaic of interrelated scenes—some funny, some touching, some rueful—which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class WASP. The actors change roles, personalities and ages with virtuoso skill as they portray a wide variety of characters, from little boys to stern grandfathers, and from giggling teenage girls to Irish housemaids. Each vignette introduces a new set of people and events; a father lectures his son on grammar and politics; a boy returns from boarding school to discover his mother’s infidelity; a senile grandmother doesn’t recognize her own sons at Thanksgiving dinner; a daughter, her marriage a shambles, pleads futilely to return home, etc. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes coalesce, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Dec. 2-3
Music Hall [Over-the-Rhine]

Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor
Michelle Cann, piano
Treble Voices of the May Festival Chorus, Robert Porco, director

Holst’s The Planets has a gravity all its own—from the merciless rhythms of Mars to the magnificence of Jupiter. Caroline Shaw’s The Observatory acts like a musical telescope—in her words, exploring “some very large spaces…chaos and clarity.” Michelle Cann, former CSO MAC Music Innovator and featured soloist on the 20th anniversary of Classical Roots, is known for delivering “knockout” performances (Philadelphia Inquirer), and shines in music by Gershwin.

CSO Co-Commission by Caroline Shaw is made possible by Irwin and Melinda Simon.

And it’s all wrapped up in exciting songs like, “Bring Back Christmas”, “On the Streets of Bethlehem”, “The Candle Carol” and many more. It’s been nine years since this show has brightened the Covedale stage.  Come experience this “Ghost story of Christmas” again OR for the very first time.
