Auditions Announced for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at Mount Notre Dame

MNDT_logo2The MNDT Spring Show is open to MND Students and male High School students throughout the tri state area.

If you are currently enrolled in High School then you are eligible to audition for this production.

AUDITIONS

  • Monday February 25th, 3:30pm to 5:30pm
  • Tuesday February 26th, 3:30pm to 5:30pm

If callbacks are necessary, they will be held after auditions on Wednesday February 27th.

Auditions are held at MND:  711 E. Columbia Ave. Reading, OH 45215

PREPARE
Please prepare a 60 second Comedic Monologue and 32 bars of a comedic Musical Theatre piece. We are accepting selections from the show.

You must supply the sheet music for your audition. An accompanist will be provided. No tracks or acapella singing will be accepted.

Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and Saturday 3:30pm to 5:30pm. We ask that all conflicts are presented at the auditions.

Performances are May 3rd – 5th and May 9th – 11th.

Auditions Announced for WE ARE MONSTERS at Camp Carnegie

It’s that time of year again, The Carnegie invites any student between the ages of 7 and 18 who has ever attended Camp Carnegie or Artstop to take their skills to the next level and audition for WE ARE MONSTERS.

WE ARE MONSTERS is a hilarious musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock ‘n roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly, these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating the attributes that make each of us different and unique.

Auditions will be held by appointment on February 25 and 27 in Eva G. Farris Education Center at The Carnegie. There are five audition spots in each half-hour time slot:

February 25, 2019 | 4:30-5 p.m., 5-5:30 p.m., 5:30-6 p.m., 6-6:30 p.m.
February 27, 2019 | 4:30-5 p.m., 5-5:30 p.m., 5:30-6 p.m., 6-6:30 p.m.

The Carnegie will also be looking for older students interested in filling the roles of stage manager, dance captain, and stage crew.

What to prepare:

  • A prepared, memorized song (no more than 60 seconds memorized)
    • Feel free to sing one of the following songs from WE ARE MONSTERS
      • Be in Touch
      • Howl at the Moon
      • We Love Lettuce
        • Email Alissa Paasch if you would like the lyrics and music to one of the songs above
    • If you are taking private lessons and can bring pre-recorded music, you may bring something prepared in your lessons
  • Performers may also be asked to:
    • Improvise a short scene
    • Demonstrate their movement in a brief dance combo
    • Read a short snippet from the script

What we are looking for:

  • Courage to perform in front of an audience
  • The ability to memorize and prepare for a performance
  • Volume, clarity, and commitment
  • Personality and attitude in delivering character

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Students who are cast will need to pay a $50 fee and have a signed permission form to participate
  • Your child may not be cast or might be offered a smaller role if they have too many conflicts

Rehearsals will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 11 – May 22, 2019. Students will not need to attend all rehearsals. Once we receive student conflicts, we will create a detailed rehearsal schedule.

Tech week will be 4-7 p.m. from May 28 – May 31, 2019. All students must attend. 

Performances will be June 1 and 2 at 2 p.m. All students must attend.

We are aware of the fact that many of the students have not auditioned before. We will be patient and gentle.

Auditions and Technical Interviews Announced for MR. BURNS and SPRING AWAKENING at Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre

Requirements for SPRING AWAKENING:

  • 32 measure excerpt from a Broadway show that showcases your vocal talents

    • An accompanist, iPod/phone connection, and CD player will be provided. If you intend on using the accompanist, please provide a clearly marked score that is hole punched and placed in a three-ring binder.  A cappella singing is strongly discouraged

  • A memorized 45 second to 1-minute monologue from a play

  • Review and learn the dance from the video (video available soon).

    • ***Please remember the dance audition is not a commentary on your dancing skills.  We are not just assessing your dance ability.  We are assessing your ability  of comprehension, your acting while dancing and, most of all, your willingness to have fun.​

      • There will be a voluntary dance workshop to brush​ up the video for anyone interested for 30 minutes prior  to auditions starting on the days of auditions

Requirements for MR BURNS, a post-electric play:

  • 1 minute monologue from a play similar in style to the season selection

Cincinnati Playhouse Travels 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA March 15

“Off the Grid” for One-Night-Only at Newport Aquarium 

For one night only, audiences can immerse themselves directly in the action of a theatrical adventure when Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park goes off the grid for 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA at Newport Aquarium on Friday, March 15. Tickets are now available for three performances at 6:30, 9 and 10:15 p.m.

“Newport Aquarium will be transformed into the Nautilus, Captain Nemo’s scientific marvel of a submarine,” explains Daunielle Rasmussen, director of the production and director of education and community engagement for the Playhouse. “The performance will be a progressive play experience, meaning audience members will journey through the Nautilus as members of the Orka Fleet, tasked to apprehend the elusive war criminal known as Captain Nemo. In this immersive production of 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, audience members become part of the action and go on a journey that will lead them into uncharted waters.”

The performance, written by Ryan Underbakke and Nick Ryan and based on the book by Jules Verne, is part of the Playhouse’s Off the Grid series. Off the Grid brings interactive, creative experiences to the community, specifically aimed at young professionals. Off the Grid events all happen out in the community, away from the Playhouse’s Eden Park facility, and have included interactive movie events, live board games and themed pub crawls.

“20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is our biggest Off the Grid event to date and the culmination of three years of experimentation into what sorts of interactive experiences resonate most,” Rasmussen says.

Tickets for the performance, recommended for audiences 10 years and older, are $30. Audience members will stand and move throughout the performance and no seating is available, but the interactive performance is wheelchair accessible. For an additional $20 per person, audiences ages 21 and up will gain access to a VIP Party (also at Newport Aquarium) from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with a live DJ playing music throughout the evening, as well as light-bite appetizers and a complimentary drink ticket.

Off the Grid is supported by the generosity of the thousands of young professional contributors to the ArtsWave Campaign.

The Playhouse is supported by the generosity of almost 40,000 contributors to the ArtsWave Community campaign. The Ohio Arts Council helps fund the Playhouse with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. The Playhouse also receives funding from the Shubert Foundation.

Bastian, a lonely boy, stumbles into a curious bookshop where he discovers a curious book—THE NEVERENDING STORY. Bastian hides in the attic of his school and begins to read, and a huge adventure surges into life. Fantastica, a land of stories, is being destroyed by the Nothing. The Childlike Empress has chosen Atreyu, a young hunter, to be the Hero of the Great Quest. Atreyu, an orphan, is an unlikely choice, but he accepts and, with his horse and companion, Artax, rides to face the menace.
