Position Overview: 

The TCT Academy Coordinator assists the organization in fulfilling its mission of educating, entertaining and engaging audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming.  The TCT Academy Coordinator is the “front door” to the TCT Academy, managing relationships with students and their guardians, while providing excellent customer service through administrative functions related to TCT Academy.

START DATE: JULY  2021

TCT Academy Department:   

The TCT Academy Department consists of the following programs:

    • TCT Academy’s Class Sessions
    • Private Lessons, Summer Camps
    • AcademyLIVE!
    • The STAR Program

Reports and Reporting:

The TCT Academy Coordinator reports directly to the TCT Academy Director.

Overview of Responsibilities: 

 The TCT Academy Coordinator duties include but are not limited to: 

    • Navigating TCT’s systems, software, and scheduling platform: ASAP (Administrative Software Applications)
    • Monitoring accounts, registration, and phone/email communication with students and their guardians
    • Managing capacity of classes, camps, and Academy events
    • Reviewing scholarship applications and dispensing awards
    • Managing classroom assignments and classroom rosters
    • Supervising front desk during class times.
    • Speaking to prospective students and their guardians about TCT Academy curricula as curated by the education staff.
    • Working with the Education Team and Marketing Department to proof class description copy for TCT Academy fliers and other marketing materials
    • Working with other TCT staff to launch hosted events under TCT Academy.
    • Cultivating and measuring student retention with the TCT Academy Director.
    • Representing TCT at industry events.
    • Performing other duties as assigned to support TCT’s mission.

Ideal and Minimum Qualifications: 

    • A magnetic and warm personality with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, both written and oral
    • Broad understanding of theatre education including the ability to eloquently speak to the importance and benefits of an arts education
    • Familiarity with managing customer accounts, invoices, and schedules
    • Collaborate with a mission-oriented and dedicated staff
    • Working knowledge of PC and Mac-based productivity software and familiarity with industry standard theatrical software
    • Able to maintain a flexible work schedule, which may include irregular and extended working hours during certain times of the season.

Salary and Benefits:

    • Wage Range: $12-14/hr.
    • Health, vision and dental benefits available, partially subsidized by employer contributions, after a waiting period
    • 403(b) retirement plan participation available with eligibility for an employer match after one year of credited service
    • Generous PTO based on years of service

The TCT Academy Director assists the organization in fulfilling its mission of educating, entertaining and engaging audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming.  The TCT Academy Director is a member of TCT’s Resident Artist Company and coordinates the Academy’s functions with the assistance from members of the Education Team.  TCT Academy Director directly supports and upholds the artistic integrity of the Producing Artistic Director’s vision for the organization’s Education Department.

START DATE: JULY 2021

Ideal Candidate:

The Education Team consists of a staff whose expertise is vast and multi-disciplined. The ideal TCT Academy Director candidate possesses piano accompaniment skills, has experience music directing, and finds joy coaching private voice students ages 9 and up.

Depending on the area of expertise, the ideal candidate could become a specialized resident artist for the organization. (i.e. a Resident Music Director, a Resident Pianist, a Resident Choreographer, a Resident Costume Designer, etc.)

TCT Academy Department:   

              The TCT Academy Department consists of the following programs:

  • TCT Academy’s Class Sessions

The TCT Academy Director reports to the Education Director.

The TCT Academy Director will supervise a team of part-time, contracted, and full-time teaching artists, and work closely with the Education Manager to schedule their time. 

Overview of Responsibilities: 

             The TCT Academy Director’s duties include but are not limited to: 

    • Supervising TCT Academy contracted teaching artists.
    • Working closely with the Education Director and Education Manager to create the Education Department’s operating budget.
    • Observing teaching artists and providing feedback to the Education Director
    • Researching and developing TCT Academy lesson plan curricula and implementing TCT Academy curricula and policies in collaboration with TCT Education staff.
    • Assisting the Education Director to determine which classes the Academy will offer.
    • Supporting the Education Director with day-to-day administrative needs of the Academy.
    • Managing the TCT Academy Coordinator and other Academy Teaching Artists.
    • Assist the TCT Academy Coordinator in communication with parents, enrolling customers with class selection, organizing culminating class showcases, and fielding student, parent and teacher questions.
    • Working with the Education Team and Marketing Department to write class description copy for TCT Academy fliers and other marketing materials
    • Teaching vocal music and acting classes within the Academy at various levels.
    • Execute creative projects as assigned.
    • Working with other TCT staff to launch hosted events under TCT Academy.
    • Cultivating and measuring student retention.
    • Representing TCT at industry events.
    • Performing other duties as assigned to support TCT’s mission. 

Ideal and Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A Master’s or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Education or related field, or equivalent work experience with Theatre Education (2+ years of experience in teaching and administrative work within an established performing arts training academy) is preferred.
  • Broad understanding of all aspects of theatre education including knowledge of developmental and education theories and the impact theatre has on youth
  • Familiarity with managing budgets and schedules
  • Collaborate with a mission-oriented and dedicated staff
  • Working knowledge of PC and Mac-based productivity software and familiarity with industry standard theatrical software
  • Prior experience supervising a team in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills, both written and oral, are imperative
  • Able to maintain a flexible work schedule, which may include irregular and extended working hours during certain times of the season.

Summer Camp Counselors/Teaching Artist Trainees Sought by Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

PIP_logoWe are seeking Summer Camp Counselors/Teaching Artist Trainees for our 2021 summer camps. As counselors, participants in the training program will help to facilitate all aspects of camp, including serving as role models who assist and motivate campers. Throughout the day, counselors facilitate their group’s activities including check-in and check-out, proctor student breaks, and support Teaching Artists as teaching assistants during classes. Ideal candidates have completed or are working towards a college degree in theatre, or possess relevant experience, have experience working with children and are enthusiastic about teaching theatre to youth. Previous experience teaching is a plus, but is not required.

Applicants Sought for The KeyBank Internship for Diverse Arts Administrators at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

The mission of The Children’s of Cincinnati (TCT) is to educate, entertain and engage audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming. Now in its 101st season, TCT is the oldest professional theatre for young audiences in the country and is recognized as one of the top children’s theatres in the nation. TCT brings art to life through three divisions: TCT MainStage at the Taft Theatre, TCT on Tour/WorkShops, and TCT Academy.

Arts organizations have the power to heal, uplift, and create lasting cultural change. The Change Fund at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati was launched in October 2020 due to the generous funding of KeyBank Foundation.   The Change Fund aims to create an inclusive culture and innovation through the addition of previously excluded voices. The generous donation from KeyBank Foundation provides exclusive funding for The Change Fund to implement projects dedicated to eight pillar areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. TCT has currently identified these pillars as:

  1. Internships for Diverse Arts Administrators
  2. Diverse Educators, Guest Speakers, Ambassadors, & Cultural Consultants
  3. Development of diversity-focused new works and adaptations
  4. Diverse Playwrights & Composers
  5. Diverse Directors & Choreographers
  6. Diverse Designers & Artists
  7. Diverse Production Crew
  8. Diversity-Focused Community Engagement Initiatives

The Change Fund seeks to offer opportunities for diverse individuals throughout the country including those of various races, ethnicities, religions, genders, abilities, socio-economic status, and more.

How It Works
The Change Fund at TCT will provide professional and educational opportunities for diverse people interested in pursuing a career in nonprofit/arts management through its internships for arts administrators. Internships will amplify the voices of individuals who have been historically underrepresented. The Change Fund will be an educational resource dedicated to projects that specifically and intentionally propel the perspectives of people who are of varying race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and more, for many years to come.

Interested participants may apply for internships related to their professional goals in non-profit arts management. Applicants may be aspiring non-profit marketing directors, CEOs, producers, development leaders, venue managers, and beyond. Interns will lead various programming efforts, share in mentorship by TCT leaders, partake in professional development, engage in networking opportunities with other arts and business leaders in the community, and will be provided with valuable educational opportunities pertaining to arts administration. Interns will also offer fresh expertise and perspective to TCT’s operations and programming departments.

Interns will be provided a stipend of $500 per week as well as a housing allowance if from outside of the Greater Cincinnati region.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate students, or recent Graduates, who identify with a diverse population
  • Interested in pursuing a career in Arts Administration
  • Available for a minimum of 20 but up to 35 hours per week for a maximum of twelve weeks during the fall.

Two Roles for Feature Film Background

MISC_Casting call2Angela Boehm Casting is looking to fill two roles for a feature film!

Shoot location: Cleveland, OH and surrounding areas. Must be a local hire.

Rate: $250 featured extra fee +20% agency (per day). Highly likely to get upgraded to day player.

Submission Deadline: Friday, May 7th, end of day.

This is a video and photo submission.

Roles:

  • Role One (“Man with toothbrush”): Male, age 60+, any ethnicity. Tentative shoot date: Thursday, September 9th (Subject to change)
  • Role Two (“Featured Family”): Real families are preferred, but individual submissions also accepted. Please slate each family member individually. Single submissions, please state your role.

Roles within family:

  • Dad: Male, ages 30-late 40’s, any ethnicity.
  • Mom: Female, ages 30-late 40’s, any ethnicity.
  • Son: Male, ages 10-17, any ethnicity.
  • Daughter: Female, ages 10-17, any ethnicity.

Tentative shoot dates:

  • August 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th
  • September 3rd, and 4th.
  • On hold: August 30th, 31st, September 1st, and 2nd.

You may be needed for some or all of these dates. And all dates are subject to change- please keep all dates open.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELF-TAPE AUDITIONS

PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE RECORDING YOUR AUDITION

Unfortunately, we are receiving a lot of submissions that cannot be forwarded to the director due to poor production. Follow these directions to guarantee you’ll be seen:

  • Lighting, audio and backdrop are crucial. Many auditions aren’t sent to the director due to these three things.
  • All videos should be shot landscape (horizontally).
  • Your backdrop should be plain, your lighting bright, and your audio clear and crisp with no other background noise.

SLATE

  • Shoot this from the chest up.
  • Look directly into the camera.
  • State name, height, agent (if applicable), local hire, age (if a minor), and a fun fact or two about yourself.
  • Pull out to a full-length shot for 5 seconds.
  • Put slate at the END of the video, not before! Keep this as brief as possible.

AUDITION

  • Do not look into the camera (unless specifically instructed to do so).
  • Do not turn your head more than 45 degrees in either direction (in other words, DO NOT film yourself in a profile—from the side).
  • Video files MUST be condensed to be under 50MB. If the file is too large, we will not be able to upload it. There are several free apps that can do this easily.

AUDITION PROMPTS

Role One (“Man with toothbrush”):

A quick video of the talent walking to a restroom to brush their teeth, realizing someone is in the restroom (Off-Screen: someone says “occupied”), and improv a line or two of annoyance. This line should be mumbled or under their breath but still audible. This should be around 30 seconds.

Role Two (“Family with life jackets”):

A quick video of the talent interacting with someone off-camera. FOLLOW THE LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS EMAIL FOR FAMILY AUDITION DIALOGUE. Please use this dialogue: family auditions not using this dialogue will be deleted.

For both roles, the entire video should be approximately a minute in length.
