The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati STAR Program & The Cincinnati Boychoir Holding Combined Auditions

TCT_logoBoys and girls ages 9-18 can audition for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s STAR and stARTs program and/or The Cincinnati Boychoir at the same time.  The Boychoir is looking specifically for boys ages 7-12 (in grades 2-6) with unchanged voices.

Appointments are mandatory. You MUST set up an audition in advance. Audition time slots are on a first-come, first-served basis.  Auditions will be held:

  • Saturday, January 10 from 10 AM – 4 PM
  • Sunday, January 11 from 1 PM – 4 PM

at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati  offices, 5020 Oaklawn Drive, 45227

Please share you and your child’s full name, age, phone number, and preferred audition time.
We will start accepting appointments on Sunday, December 14, 2014.

YOU SHOULD PREPARE:

  • A memorized, age-appropriate monologue (1 minute MAX). It should showcase your acting skills.
  • A memorized a 16 bar song selection that best shows your vocal range. Remember to bring your PIANO SHEET MUSIC for your song. An accompanist will be provided. The sheet music MUST have the piano part, not just the vocal line.
  • You may be asked to show us your dance ability, so come prepared. Wear appropriate shoes. No flip flops. Wear appropriate dance clothes please.
  • Please bring a RECENT 8×10 headshot and UPDATED performance resume.
  • Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes ahead of your appointment to fill out paperwork.
    If we are ahead of schedule, you may audition early.

On January 12, Boychoir auditions will take place with one of the Cincinnati Boychoir’s current choirs, so that the boys can experience a full rehearsal.

ABOUT THE STAR PROGRAM:
Our STAR program is a four week training program for students, ages 9-18. Students are accepted by audition only and will be taught by experts in the various disciplines of Musical Theatre on the campus of Northern Kentucky University, from 10 AM to 4 PM each weekday.

Selected from the STAR Program, the STAR Cabaret is a group of 12-14 students who participate in year-round training and coaching.  Throughout the year, participants will mentor with our expert teaching staff to be well-rounded musical theatre artists, perform for local events, and will culminate in a trip to New York, Chicago, or LA to perform a showcase for directors, agents, and casting experts.

STAR Program 2015:  July 6 – August 2, 2015 at Northern Kentucky University
Tuition: $550
Security deposit of $150 due upon acceptance into the program
Payment plans and scholarships are available.

ABOUT THE stARTs PROGRAM:
stARTs is our program for gifted and talented students who have little or no experience in musical theatre, or for students who are advanced in some areas of musical theatre, but are lacking training in a specific area of voice, dance, or drama.

For two weeks in June, a select number of students will work with leading professionals in the theater business to help them improve and become well rounded in all areas of musical theatre.  stARTs Classes will take place over the course of two weeks (Monday-Friday) for three hours and forty-five minutes a day. At the end of the second week there will be a culminating showcase for immediate family members in The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s Rehearsal Hall, where all of the MainStage Shows at the Taft are rehearsed!

ABOUT THE CINCINNATI BOYCHOIR:
The Cincinnati Boychoir provides exceptional concert opportunities and music education in a safe, diverse, and respectful environment.  The Cincinnati Boychoir is one of the premiere professional boychoirs in the United States. Located in the urban arts core of Cincinnati at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, the Boychoir reaches approximately 200 young men each year from more than 90 schools in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Since 1965, the Cincinnati Boychoir has been dedicated to the musical, intellectual, and emotional development of these young men and has served as one of the foremost music education and performance organizations in the region; boys attend weekly rehearsals, retreats, music theory classes, and the annual SongFest Summer Music Camp for Boys at Xavier University. Each year, the Cincinnati Boychoir presents approximately thirty annual performances in the Greater Cincinnati region, and has performed concerts and completed residencies both at home and abroad; most recently, the Boychoir undertook three three-day residencies with boychoirs in England (June 2013), and a week-long residency at the Hotchkiss School in northwest Connecticut (June 2014).

Season Auditions Announced for Dare 2 Defy Productions

Auditions will take place on January 24, 2015 at the Dare to Defy Productions Loft at 400 Linden Ave Dayton, OH

 Please prepare 32 bars of a song, and have a contrasting selection ready if asked. Bring sheet music in the correct key; and accompanist will be provided. Also prepare two, one minute monologues of contrasting styles. Be prepared to dance if asked.

Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together. We are looking for performers for the following shows-  All roles are open at this time:

HAIR- In Concert
Book and Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, Music by Galt MacDermot

HAIR will be presented in a concert fashion with a reduced Cast. This show if full of phenomenal musical numbers and carries a meaning that outlives the late 1960’s and early 1970’s in America.

Callback auditions will take place January 24, 2015
PRODUCTION DATES: March 13 & 14 2015
1st rehearsal will be February 19, 2015

ASSASSINS
Book by John Weidman, Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Based on an idea by Charles Gilbert Jr.

ASSASSINS lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United Stated. Assassins requires skilled singers who are also versatile performers.

PRODUCTION DATES: July 17, 18, 24 & 25, 2015
1st rehearsal tentatively scheduled for June 8, 2015

INTO THE WOODS
Book by James Lapine, Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

One of Sondheim’s most popular works, INTO THE WOODS is a sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature performers adept at dark comedy.

Callback auditions will take place in May 2015
Production Dates: September 5 and 6, 2015/ Performances will be held at The Victoria Theatre
1st Rehearsal will be August 3, 2015

GODSPELL
Book by John Michael Tebelak, Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz- Based on The Gospel According to Matthew

GODSPELL contains an eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville and is employed as the story of Jesus’s life. The messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Auditions Announced for BPI’s INHERIT THE WIND

BPI_logoBeechmont Players, Inc. (BPI) is gearing up for its third production of the 2014-15 season, INHERIT THE WIND, directed by Jerry Wiesenhahn and produced by Darcy Little.

Audition details:
7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Anderson Center Theatre (7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230).

Call-backs, if needed, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Anderson Center Theatre.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

Please bring a resume and headshot. Headshots will be taken of those who don’t bring one.

Show synopsis:
This fictionalized account of the Scopes “Monkey” trial in Tennessee addresses basic issues which are still controversial today. Thinly disguised characters portraying William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow oppose each other in this dramatic re-creation of the trial of a teacher for teaching Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution to a high school science class. It’s faith versus science in a play that reflects conflicts that still trouble our society.

The run of the show is May 8 – 16, 2015.

Character descriptions:

Inherit The Wind Characters: Cast size – 21 men, six women, two boys, one girl

Matthew Harrison Brady, a three-time presidential candidate and nationally known attorney. He is a Populist and a dynamic public speaker even though he is in his late 60s or early 70s.

Henry Drummond, another nationally known attorney who was once Brady’s closest friend and political confidante. He is about the same age as Brady. Folksy but can bristle when pushed.

Bertram “Bert” Cates, a Hillsboro high school teacher in his 20s who has taught the theory of evolution in violation of a state law banning its teaching in classrooms; uncomfortable in the limelight.

E. K. Hornbeck, a reporter for the fictional Baltimore Herald newspaper. He is young,sarcastic, cynical, and deeply opposed to religious belief.

Reverend Jeremiah Brown, a fundamentalist preacher who believes fervently in Biblical literalism. He is widowed, and has a daughter – Rachel Brown.

Rachel Brown, the Rev. Brown’s daughter. She is 22, romantically involved with Bertram Cates before all this happened and is now very conflicted about the situation.

The Judge, a local county court judge who is subtly sympathetic to Rev. Brown’s views.

Howard Blair, a 13-year-old high school student who was in Bertram Cates’ class.

Melinda Loomis, a 12-year-old girl who believes strongly in the Bible.

Tom Davenport, the local district attorney who prosecutes Bertram Cates.

The Mayor, the top elected official of Hillsboro who is openly supportive of the Rev.Brown but also deeply political and concerned about the economic future of his town.

Meeker, a bailiff at the Hillsboro courthouse; very laid back.

Mrs. Sarah Brady, Matthew Harrison Brady’s wife; gracious, but protective of her husband.

Mrs. Krebs, a loudly outspoken supporter of Rev. Brown and leader of the Ladies’ Aid Society.

Auditions Announced for Troy Civic Theatre’s DIXIE SWIM CLUB

Parts are available for five women ages 35 through 55.

Five Southern women, whose friendships began on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every summer to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on the Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. The play takes place over four weekends spanning three decades. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on each other to get through the challenges that life flings at them. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB is a hilarious and touching comedy about friendships that last forever.
