Season Auditions for SHEatre-Cincinnati Women’s Theatre on Oct. 26, 2015

SHE_logoCincinnati’s new Women’s Theatre is holding open season auditions on Monday October 26, 2015 at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company from 5-9 pm. SHEatre has three staged readings on the books, as well as a 10-minute play festival of new local work. SHEatre is looking for new talent (both men and women) with the hopes that some of these readings can become fully mounted productions in the near future.

The rehearsal processes for each reading will be brief, but please tell us of other work that you might have!

Actors/Actresses will be considered for:

IPHIGENIA AND OTHER DAUGHTERS by Ellen McLaughlin

Iphigenia and Other Daughters is a modern retelling of the fall of the House of Atreus. It follows the children of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, siblings who are both players in the family tragedy and victims of it. The cycle of blood and vengeance seems inescapable until the final reunion of a lost sister and brother brings the bloody family saga to its mystical and unlikely end.

The reading of IPHIGENIA AND OTHER DAUGHTERS is scheduled for November 23, 2015 at 7:30 on the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company mainstage.

BHUTAN by Daisy Foote from “The Kilroy’s List”

Frances Conroy’s mother is driving her crazy. Her aunt is stalking a married man. Her brother is in prison. She dreams of Bhutan, a far off place in the Himalayan Mountains, but can barely find the kitchen door. ‘Bhutan’ is a play about many things…family, love, change, and most importantly, it’s about having the courage to let-go and take a leap into the unknown.

The reading of BHUTAN will take place on January 25, 2016 at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company at 7:30 pm.

Quickies! The 10 Minute Play Festival

Six 10 minute plays by local playwrights will be performed on March 21 at 7:30 pm at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

IN THE BLOOD by Suzan Lori Parks

In this modern adaptation of The Scarlet Letter, Hester La Negrita, a homeless mother of five, lives with her kids on the tough streets of the inner city. Her eldest child is teaching her how to read and write, but the letter “A” is the only letter she knows. Her five kids— Jabber, Bully, Trouble, Beauty and Baby, double as the adults in Hester’s life: her ex-boyfriend, her social worker, her doctor, her best friend and her minister. While Hester’s kids fill her life with joy, the adults with whom she comes into contact only hold her back. Nothing can stop the play’s tragic end.

The reading of IN THE BLOOD will take place on April 11, 2016 at 7:30 pm at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

For the audition, please prepare either two one minute monologues that showcase your work or one two minute piece. We may ask you to do a cold read from one of the scripts.

Final 2015-2016 Season Auditions at Dare to Defy Productions

We will be having open auditions on October 11, 2015 at the Dare to Defy Productions Loft at 400 Linden Ave Dayton, OH. Click here to reserve an audition spot.

  • Please prepare 32 bars of a song, and have a contrasting selection ready if asked.
  • Bring sheet music in the correct key; and accompanist will be provided.
  • Also prepare a one minute monologue.
  • Be prepared to dance if asked.
  • Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

We are looking for performers for the following shows:

THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL 
With Music and Lyrics by David Nehls and Book by Betsy Kelso, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” began its journey as a series of staged readings and workshops, followed by a sold-out run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in 2004, which led to the 2005 Off Broadway run produced by Jean Doumanian and Jeffrey Richards.  

“There is a new tenant at Armadillo Acres – and she’s wreaking havoc all over Florida’s most exclusive trailer park.  When Pippi, the stripper on the run, comes between the agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband Norbert – the storms begin to brew! This hilarious show is a great showcase for singers and actors with comedic timing.

Production Dates: January 8, 9, 15 and 16 2016
Rehearsals will start Early December 2015
Performances will be held at the Mathile Theatre in the Schuster Center

THE WILD PARTY
Book, Music, and Lyrics: Andrew Lippa
Adapted from a book-length poem written in and about the Roaring Twenties,The Wild Party tells the story of one wild evening in the Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie and Burrs, a vaudeville dancer and a vaudeville clown. In a relationship marked by vicious behavior and recklessness (mirroring the time in which they live), they decide to throw a party to end all parties. As the guests arrive, we meet an assortment of people living on the edge. Queenie and Burrs set out to make each other jealous, but Queenie begins to fall in love with her conquest named Mr. Black. After a long night of decadence, Burrs’ jealousy erupts and he comes to a violent end at Mr. Black’s hand. In the stark light of a new day, Queenie moves out into a brighter world, although not necessarily a brighter future, leaving the passed-out revelers in her wake. An award-winning score by Andrew Lippa provides excitement and drive for this tale of passions out of control. Capturing the sound of a bygone era with a nod to the present one, he makes us realize that moral decadence is not only limited to our past.

AMERICAN IDIOT
This sung-through jukebox musical is an adaptation of the 2004 rock opera of the same name, originally written and recorded by punk band Green Day.

Story: Three American youths, Johnny, Tunny, and Will, seek to escape the media-saturated life of suburbia. The boys strike out in various directions, with Johnny seeking solace in the city, Tunny enlisting in the Army, and Will staying home with his pregnant girlfriend. The individual journeys challenge the boys, with each facing considerable hardships and finding few rewards. Eventually they all return home with hard-won maturity and a new outlook on life.

Performances will be held at the Victoria Theatre

A playwright turns on the stage work lights and prepares for the first reading of his new play. The actors, producer, director and others connected with the show come onto the stage and under their humorous (and utterly real) theatrical talk, tension grows. For you see, on an opening night, exactly a year ago the playwright’s finance and beautiful leading lady was murdered!

Auditions Announced for NIGHT WATCH at Fairfield Footlighters

Auditions will be held in the Classroom on the 2nd floor of the Arts Center

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

  •   Cold readings from the script.
  •   Bring your calendar to auditions and be prepared to list all conflicts.
  •   All roles are available. Color-blind casting, although Helga the cook is German.

About the Play
Unable to sleep, Elaine Wheeler paces the living room of her Manhattan townhouse, troubled by unsettling memories and vague fears. Her husband tries to comfort her, but when he steps away for a moment Elaine screams as she sees (or believes she sees) the body of a dead man in the window across the way. The police are called, but find nothing except an empty chair. Elaine’s terror grows as shortly thereafter, she sees still another body—this time a woman’s—but by now the police are skeptical and pay no heed to her frantic pleas. Her husband, claiming that Elaine may be on the verge of a breakdown, calls in a lady psychiatrist, who agrees with his suggestion that Elaine should commit herself to a sanitarium for treatment. From this point on, the plot moves quickly and grippingly as those involved—Elaine’s old friend and house guest Blanche; the inquisitive and rather sinister man who lives next door; and the nosy German maid Helga—all contribute to the deepening suspense and mystery of the play as it draws towards its riveting and chilling climax.

Role Breakdowns

  •  John Wheeler – (30s)  Elaine’s husband, a Wall Street trader and real estate investor, very well off.
  •  Elaine Wheeler – (30s) Attractive, an avid art collector. Suffering from insomnia. Recently recovered from a nervous breakdown.
  •  Helga – (30s – 50s) Wheeler’s German cook. Fond of Elaine, tolerates John. (Note: A German accent needed for performance)
  •  Officer Vanelli – (20s) A young beat-cop who used to work as a guard at an art museum. A little cocky.
  •  Curtis Appleby – (40s-60s) The Wheelers’ neighbor. Eccentric to flamboyant busybody, publishes a neighborhood paper.
  •  Blanche Cooke – (30s) Elaine’s best friend, living with the Wheelers.
  •  Lieutenant Walker – (40s-60s) A no-nonsense homicide detective. Has pretty much seen it all, and more than he would like.
  •  Dr. Tracy Lake – (40s-50s)  A psychiatrist brought in to treat Elaine. Matter-of-fact, but sympathetic to her patients.
  •  Sam Hoke (40s-60s) Owner of a delicatessen near the Wheelers residence. Gruff, a bit shabby in appearance. (Note: only appears at the end of Act I)

Auditions Announced for DOUBT at Tree County Players

TREE_Doubt logoTree County Players, Greensburg In., announces auditions for its next performance, John Patrick Shanley’s DOUBT – A PARABLE,

Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6:30 pm -9:00 pm at the Tree County Players building (327 S. Monfort St., Greensburg, IN 47240).

Four roles will be cast: 3 women (Sister Aloysius (50s -60s), Sister James (20s -30s), Mrs. Mueller (30s), and one man – Father Flynn (30s -50s).

Audition appointments are recommended and may be made by calling director, Therese Zins (812-528-5289).

Auditioners will be asked to complete an information form, provide rehearsal conflict dates and read selections from the script. Performance dates are November 20 and 21, 2015. Contact the director for more information or with questions.

John Patrick Shanley’s DOUBT, A Parable won the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for Drama. In a Catholic church and school in the Bronx in 1964, the school’s Principal, Sister Aloysius suspects that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to a young student. Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth. With the help of a younger teacher, Sister James, she sets out to get the Priest removed from the church. However, questions arise regarding her accusations. Is her obsession warranted or is Father Flynn innocent of her charges? What do you do when you are not sure? Adapted into the Academy Award nominated film (with Meryl Streep and Viola Davis), Shanley’s stage play is written with an uncanny blend of compassion and detachment. “It is an inspired study in moral uncertainty with the compelling structure of an old-fashioned detective drama” says Ben Brantley, N.Y. Times.

This timely play is a thought-provoking evening of high drama that is unpreachy and full of startling twists and turns. ADULT THEMES
