Auditions Announced for trueBASEBALL at trueTHEATRE

TRUE_logoWhether you have a true, personal, baseball-themed story to pitch for our Spring show or you want to play spectator, we invite you to the Northside Tavern on Wednesday, March 14th, to experience True Theatre’s first-ever LIVE audition night!

We’re ultimately looking for 5 people to tell their stories in 10 – 12 minute form as part of the lineup at our April 30th show, but before that, we need to find them.   We’re asking that those interested in pitching a story prepare a 4 – 5 minute mini-version of their story. Those brave enough to take the mic get a drink on us and a ticket to the show (to share with a friend if we end up drafting you!).

We won’t be able to accommodate everyone who wants to pitch on our roster for the evening, so be sure to reserve you spot by giving us a preview through our website at https://www.truetheatre.com/contact-1/.

Doors “open” at 6:30 in the back. At 7, it will be time to play ball!
This isn’t the only way to pitch a story for trueBASEBALL, but it’s the first way and those who wait until after, risk missing their chance.

So come on down for socializing, storytelling, and what are probably going to be some very obvious baseball puns!

To learn more about us, visit our website or write us with any questions at info@truetheatre.com.

Date: Wednesday, March 14
Time: 6:30 socializing/7:00 go!
Where: The Northside Tavern,  4163 Hamilton Ave A, Cincinnati, OH 45223

Auditions Announced for EGAD! THE WOMAN IN WHITE at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTDue to the illness of the director, the March 16th audition is cancelled. The rescheduled date is Wed. March 21 from 7-9pm. Auditions will still be held on Sunday, March 18 from 2-4pm. Please contact Elaine Volker, eavolker@gmail.com if you cannot make those dates. The director can arrange to meet with you at a convenient time.

The Drama Workshop will hold auditions for the comedic melodrama Egad! The Woman in White on March 16 at 7:00 p.m. and March 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave., Cheviot, OH 45211.   The doors will open 30 minutes before each session. There are roles available for actors and actresses ranging in age from 17 to 70.  In addition, musical and specialty acts will be auditioned at a later date.  The play will run August 10 – 26 at the Glenmore Playhouse.

Egad! The Woman in White is a laugh-oriented, old-fashioned melodrama based on the Wilkie Collins’ classic. Set in London, the play features a disreputable villain who seals his wife in a madhouse in order to steal her vast fortune.  But he’s scared of the mysterious “Woman in White” who’s escaped from the asylum in order to seek him out. A parade of comedic characters and a dual between villain and villainess bring gales of laughter, terminating only when the villain is brought to justice in an outrageous and audience-cheering finale. Directed by Marcha Hunley.

The play features roles for 7 women and 3 men ranging in age from 17 – 70.  Additionally, specialty and musical performers who will perform between the play’s scenes will be auditioned at a later date.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No appointment is necessary. Headshots and resumes are appreciated but not required.

Characters in Egad! The Woman In White include:

  • Sir Percival Glyde – a complete scoundrel, but rather charming in a villainous way.
  • Dora – his inept housekeeper.
  • Lawyer Gilmore – all business and a thorn in the side of Sir Percival.
  • Countess Fasco – a clever creature, up to no good. Runs the madhouse.
  • Mrs. Gatherick – a victim of Sir Percival’s character.
  • Frederick Fairlee – a hypochondriac, given to fits of sneezing.
  • Marian – his niece, lovely and sincere.
  • Laura – another niece, in love with the drawing master but promised to Sir Percival.
  • Walter Hartwright – the drawing master in love with Laura. Manly, honest, a good sort.
  • Miss Peach – an attendant in Countess Fasco’s asylum.
  • The Woman in White – a figure of mystery and a cause for alarm.

Auditions Announced for THE FOREGINER at Lebanon Theatre Company

LTC_logoMon & Tue, March 19 & 20 at 7pm

Lebanon Theatre Company
10 S Mechanic St
Lebanon, Ohio 45036

Produced by Dawn Stone
Directed by Wayne Dunn

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the play, and we welcome auditioners of all experience levels!

The story takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia where two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, arrive as guests. The shy Charlie agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. When people at the lodge try to talk to Charlie, however, he remains silent: he is terribly shy, depressed about his wife’s illness, and cannot find the words to reply. Froggy claims that Charlie cannot talk because he is a “foreigner” from an exotic country, and does not understand English. Taking the explanation that he’s a non-English speaker as fact, the lodge’s guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers scandals amongst some of the residents of the lodge.

CHARACTER LIST:

  • Charlie Baker – a meek proofreader for a science fiction magazine; he has a merrily adulterous wife whom he loves. He is witty and funny while also very smart. He is extremely shy but living at the lodge and being in contact with such wonderful people, Charlie soon comes out of his shell and eventually finds himself the center of attention as the hero.

  • S/Sgt. “Froggy” LeSueur – a cheerful British Army man who teaches the use of explosives

  • Betty Meeks – an elderly widow who owns a resort lodge and mothers her guests. She has a fun, sarcastic nature, but she is very nurturing to all who come in contact with her. She is a hard worker, and her weak body carries all of the work she has done throughout the years.

  • Rev. David Marshall Lee – engaged to Catherine and, “it would appear, a good young man to have on our side”.[3] He comes in and out of the play and always seems like a charmer when the ladies are around. When it is just him alone with Charlie however, he begins to show his true colors.

  • Catherine Simms – a pretty heiress going through an emotional time. She is kind and caring towards Ellard and quickly shows Charlie the same attention.

  • Ellard Simms – Catherine’s dim-witted brother, heir to half the family money if Catherine decides he is “smart enough to handle it”. He is a kind, gentle hearted man but no one really gives him the time of day until Charlie comes into the picture. Charlie not only helps Ellard become more in tune with really how bright he is, but is also taught by Ellard what it means to be patient and lighthearted.

  • Owen Musser – a superstitious, dangerous racist man that lives in town.

  • Various Townspeople

Performances will be May 18-20 and 25-27.

Book by Alfred Uhry
Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown
Co-Conceived by Harold Prince
Based on the true story of the trial
and lynching of Leo M. Frank

Director: Amanda Borchers
Music Director: Allen Lindsey
Producer: Fred Hunt
Choreographer: Garrett Klaas

About the show:
The tragic, true story of the trial and lynching of a man wrongly accused of murder is brought to theatrical life. Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, the stirring TONY Award winning PARADE explores the endurance of love and hope against all the odds. In 1913, Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is put on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal Leo’s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience, and, eventually, his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Please prepare 32 measures of a ballad or up tempo musical theater piece.
  • An accompanist will be provided, please provide music in the appropriate key with your cut noted.
  • Please no acapella auditions or CDs.
  • You may be asked to perform a
    cold read from the script.
  • Callbacks will only be used if necessary.

General Statement about casting and production:

  • This show is capable of being performed with 13-15 people playing multiple roles. We could cast upwards of 20+.
  • Parade has a complex score and requires a great deal of singing by many of the roles. This is a great opportunity for the “musical theatre serious minded.”
