Auditions Announced for MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET at INNOVAtheatre

INNOV_logoAnnouncing auditions for INNOVAtheatre’s holiday production, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET

Oct. 31 & Nov. 1 from 7-9pm

Sorg Opera House – 63 S Main St , Middletown, OH, United States, Ohio

A holiday classic from the writer of the musical theatre classic, The Music Man!, and based on the movie of the same name, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET features a book and score by none other than Meredith Willson.

Single mother, Doris Walker, doesn’t want her six-year-old Susan’s head filled with romantic notions. Their neighbor, Fred Gailey, tries to woo Doris by charming Susan and taking her to see Santa Claus at Macy’s, where Doris works. Doris is not impressed, but when it turns out that Macy’s Santa may, in fact, be the real Kris Kringle, a wave of love spreads across New York City that melts even the most cynical hearts.

Filled with humor, spectacle and such beloved songs as “Pinecones and Hollyberries,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and “My State, My Kansas,” this joyous, heartwarming musical is pure family entertainment, wholesome without being cloying. A star-vehicle for a female actress that features great roles for children, the show is a cast- and crowd-pleaser.

Prepare: 1 verse and 1 chorus of a Broadway song in the style of the show but NOT from the show itself.

No acapella auditions will be accepted. Please provide your song with either a backing track or an accompanist.

All races, sexualities & identities are welcome.

Performances

Featured segments will include music from James Bond films, Disney classics of yesterday and today, and Oscar-winners for Best Song. The selection of songs will be influenced by the members of the cast and what songs have spoken to the performers.
The cast will consist of 7-10 singers with a variety of vocal ranges and styles. We are seeking a diverse cast in terms of race, ethnicity, age, and gender, reflecting the wide range of representation in film and music. All performers will perform as soloists and in duos and groups.

The show will be performed in Fifth Third Bank Theater at the Aronoff Center for the Arts from February 3 to 11, 2023. Rehearsals will begin in early January 2023.

PLEASE PREPARE & PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING FOR YOUR AUDITION:

  • Please prepare two 16-32 bar cuts of contrasting songs from any movie that showcase your vocal range and stylistic ability. The two cuts should be:
    • One ballad; One up-tempo
    • One contemporary song (rock, R&B, rap, contemporary pop, or contemporary musical theatre); One traditional song (traditional pop—Garland, Sinatra, etc., jazz, or traditional musical theatre)
The words ‘contemporary’ and ‘traditional’ are intended to indicate style more than era of the song.
  • Your sheet music should be in the proper key with cuts marked. An accompanist will be provided (no CD’s, tapes or a cappella numbers).
  • Please be prepared to tell us about a memory of a movie and song that means something to you.
