Two Male Swing Dancers Needed for SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY: A SALUTE TO THE USO at Mason Community Players

MCP_sm logoI am still in search of a male dancer or two male dancers to perform with the Mason Community Players in their production of “Sentimental Journey: A Salute to the USO.” The directors are creating a revue that will be an immersive experience taking audience members back to a canteen during WWII and presenting a typical USO Entertainment of the
day … live big band, vocalists, comedians, dancers.

There are two Swing Dance numbers and a lead is needed for those. There are also two pieces that include partner dance. The same individual could perform all of the dances mentioned, or perhaps there are two gentlemen out there, one who has some experience in Swing and one who feels comfortable in a partner lead.

Swing rehearsals are Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The partner dances can be rehearsed on a schedule created by the choreographer and the partners, until the beginning of November.

Show dates are November 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18. There are matinees on Nov. 11 & 16, evening shows on the other dates and Nov 10 has two shows – matinee and evening.

We know that it is a busy coupla months for theatre. The show is specifically designed to occur around Veterans Day, so that placed it at a busy time. But if someone out there would like to put their dancing shoes on for a fun show with some fun folks, it would be really appreciated.

The Human Race Theatre Company Selects Katherine Kilburn as Executive Director

Looking toward a bright future, The Human Race Theatre Company is proud to announce the addition of a new Executive Director

(Dayton, OH) — The Human Race Theatre Company is proud to announce the addition of a new Executive Director to their staff. Katherine “Kappy” Kilburn will join HRTC October 9.

“We are delighted to be giving Kevin Moore, President and Artistic Director, the management partner he has wanted for many years. The job is too big for any one person and Kappy will be Kevin’s perfect complement,” says Anne Brown, President of the Board of Trustees. “She is bright, energetic and loves the idea of making a difference in the Dayton community through The Human Race.”

Kilburn, who brings a wealth of theatrical management experience, will move from New York City, where she has proven leadership in not-for-profit and commercial theatre. Previously, she worked in Los Angeles with the Center Theatre Group and the Pasadena Playhouse. Most recently, Kilburn worked with Snug Harbor Productions and Puppet Phactory, a group focused on multi-disciplinary storytelling.

Kilburn holds an undergraduate degree from University of Missouri in Technical Theatre and a MFA from Columbia University in Theatre Producing and Management. Her passion for theatre and new works is exceeded only by her dedication to the careful management of the theatre. Kilburn, who specializes in contract negotiations and fiscal management, is looking forward to leading The Human Race toward a bright future.

Kilburn, whose father grew up in the Dayton area, is excited to come full circle and return to this community. “Theatre (and art in general) is always important in communities,” says Kilburn. “It reminds us that we are humans at our core and need to connect. The Human Race Theatre Company is a place to encourage and allow civil conversation and connection in these trying times. Having spent the last four years working between the not-for-profit and commercial theatre worlds, I look forward to bringing a fresh insight on managing work at the highest level of quality.”

As Kilburn assumes the business management of The Human Race, President and Artistic Director Kevin Moore is now able to focus his energies solely on the artistic functions of the company. “For the past eight years I have worn two hats as both Artistic Director and Executive Director of The Human Race,” stated Moore. “In that time, there have been many challenges for the company and the community. I look forward to passing the Executive Director hat to Kappy Kilburn, whose diverse theatre background makes her a perfect addition to The Human Race family. For my part, I look forward to being able to concentrate 100% on the artistic direction of the company. I believe that this combination will allow us to soar to new heights.”

Cincinnati, OH- Walnut Hills High School is set to debut their first show of the 2018-19 school year with “Into The Woods” on November 1st. The award-winning department is excited to open the year with their Cappies production in the newly-dedicated Rick Steiner Black Box Theatre, where they will stage the show in an environmental setting that will blur the lines between performer and audience.

“Into The Woods” is a famous show, known mostly for its Disney movie adaptation. “We’re doing a popular show in a very unique and original way,” says Michael Sherman, head of the department and director for this production. “I’m excited to do this show in this space because I think it will really help to bring out the intimacy of the show and heighten the connection the audience can make with these characters.”

The set and full immersion of the audience are a big part of the future success of Walnut Hills’ adaptation. “The audience is actually sitting in the woods and all over the place, so it’s really going to be an immersive audience experience,” says Helen A. Raymond-Goers, the Walnut Hills Technical Director and set designer for the show.

“We want it to feel as organic as possible,” says senior Ben Methena, master carpenter, “We thought it would be more natural, and we wanted everything to be different.”

Walnut Hills High School’s production of “Into The Woods” is expected to be a hit with all of the immersion of the audience and the way that they can relate to the familiar and loveable fairy tale characters.
