NEWSIES is a musical about the real-life 1899 New York City newsboys’ strike, following charismatic leader Jack Kelly as he rallies poor, young newspaper sellers to stand up against exploitative newspaper publishers (like Joseph Pulitzer) who raise prices at the boys’ expense, fighting for fair wages and better treatment, ultimately learning the power of unity and friendship. It’s a story of underdogs finding their voice, dreaming big, and challenging powerful forces for workers’ rights.
