Auditions Announced for A MISCAST CABARET at Queen City Productions

Queen City Productions is holding auditions for its spring production: A MISCAST CABARET.

A MISCAST CABARET is a revue style production featuring actors doing songs, scenes and choreography they would not normally be given the chance to perform. This show gives performers the opportunity to perform pieces they might not be the right gender, age, race, etc… to play in a normal, full-scale production.

What to prepare:

  • Auditionees should prepare a song, scene, monologue or dance piece that they would like to perform in the actual show. This should be something that the auditionee would not typically be cast in because they do not fit the “typical” casting type.
  • If you are singing, please bring a backing track or you can accompany yourself on an instrument you bring with you.
  • You can sign up for an audition at the following link. Walk-ins are welcome and will be seen in the next available slot.
    https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050C44ACAA2AAAFD0-62776680-miscast#/
  • We will also be accepting video submissions for auditions. Please email those to queencityproductions@yahoo.com by Monday, March 15th at 10pm.

Performances will be April 16th-19th at The Arts Center at Dunham.

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, March 22nd at 6pm. Rehearsals will be minimal for this production with cast members only needing to attend two rehearsals for their individual act before Tech Week and they will be able to schedule those at a time that works for them. There will also be group numbers for this show (Opening, Closing, All Female presenting, All Male presenting) and those rehearsals will be held on either Fridays or Sundays.

This year, 189 students applied to compete in one of six artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. The Overture Awards was developed to recognize, encourage, and reward excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12. It also provides students an opportunity to share their talents and interests among their peers in a supportive environment outside of their individual schools. There are three levels of competition: Regional, Semi-Final, and Final.

The Overture Awards Regional Competitions were held virtually in January 2026. The top twenty to thirty percent of competitors in each discipline advanced to the Semi-Finals, which were held at the Aronoff Center from February 5-12. Twenty-four finalists will compete in the Finals Competition at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater on March 14.

Now in its 30th year, The Overture Awards was launched in 1996 by the Cinergy Foundation (now Duke Energy) and Leadership Cincinnati (a program of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber). The Overture Awards is funded and administered by the Cincinnati Arts Association, which operates and manages the Aronoff Center and Music Hall. The Overture Awards also relies on hundreds of volunteers from the community who help raise funds, adjudicate, manage the competitions, and nurture the program.

The Overture Awards are endowed by The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation
