Auditions Announced for ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID at Fairfield Footlighters

Fairfield Footlighters announces auditions for our upcoming spring production of ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID by Jones Hope Wooten.

Directed by Ginny Johnson & produced by Nicholas Brown.

Auditions will be held Monday February 24th and Wednesday February 26th at the Fairfield Community Arts Center (411 Wessel Drive Fairfield, OH 45014) from 7pm-9pm.

Production dates will be May 23rd-25th.

Sign up to Audition: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F4AABAB2AAAF49-55218148-always#/

Synopsis: In this hilarious comedic romp, four friends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other’s weddings … no matter what. More than thirty years later, these Southern friends-for-life are still making “the long walk” for each other, determined to honor that vow. Libby Ruth, the hopeful romantic with the perfect marriage, believes – in spite of all evidence to the contrary – that her friends can find the very same happiness. Headstrong Deedra’s “rock-solid” union hangs by a thread when she discovers her husband of many years has not only a wandering eye but the hands to match. Monette, flashy, high-spirited and self-involved, continues to test her friends’ love and patience with all-too-frequent trips down the aisle. And salt-of-the-earth, tree-hugging Charlie discovers – the hard way – that marital bliss is not the end of her rainbow and panics in outrageous style when the opportunity presents itself.

Hop on this marriage-go-round for a laugh-out-loud journey with these beleaguered bridesmaids as they navigate the choppy waters of love and matrimony. Libby Ruth, Deedra, Monette and Charlie are committed to the notion that careers, waistlines and even marriages may disappear, but real friendships last a lifetime. Forsaking all others, in sickness and in health, they repeatedly struggle to stage the perfect wedding in spite of fistfights at the altar, runaway brides and the mistaken, and unfortunate, release of a flock of white doves on the first day of hunting season.

List of Characters:

  • Kari Ames-Bissette (Female), late 20s, kind-hearted, spirited Southern charmer
  • Libby Ruth Ames (Female), late 40s, hopeless romantic, sweet country woman, plain-spoken and guileless
  • Sedalia Ellicott (Female), 60s, a gregarious, energetic Virginia hostess and life-force
  • Monette Gentry (Female), late 40s, kinda flashy, kinda trashy, Southern-to-the-bone flirt
  • Charlie Collins (Female), late 40s, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, acerbic Southern free spirit
  • Deedra Wingate (Female), late 40s, headstrong with a dry wit, no-nonsense Northern transplant

Please come to auditions prepared to cold read from the script as well as provide a list of conflicts from March 1st-May 19th.

THE BOOK CLUB PLAY Runs March 22-April 20

THE BOOK CLUB PLAY
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
March 22-April 20
Rouse Theatre [Eden Park]

Directed by Blake Robinson

A comedy about books and the people who love them. When the members of a devoted book club become the subjects of a documentary filmmaker, their intimate discussions of life and literature take on new meaning with the camera rolling. Add in the unexpected arrival of a provocative new member and the sudden inclusion of some questionable titles, and long-standing group dynamics take a hilarious turn. A sold-out hit at theatres across the country, The Book Club Play by Playhouse favorite Karen Zacarías returns! This delightful and engaging play is sprinkled with wit, joy and novels galore. Recommended for older teenager and adult audiences. Using only mild adult language, some (very funny) book discussions reference identity, sex and maybe … sparkly vampires?
