CMT_Studio Series logo2MUSICALS SHE WROTE: Celebrating Women Songwriters

MARCH 12 from 7-10pm
March 14 from 7:30-10pm

Clifton United Methodist Church, 3416 Clifton Ave

If necessary, callbacks will be held Wednesday, March 15th 7:30-10pm

We are looking to cast an ensemble of 6-10 singers, with about ¾ of the cast being female. (Guys, we need you too!) About a third of the show will be created based on what the cast feels passionate about sharing with our audiences. Help CMT shine a light on the many women, past and present, who have made memorable contributions to musical theater.

Musical Theatre songwriting has always been a boys’ club. But women have been writing musicals—a lot of them—since the 19th century! This revue will trace the history of women writing music or lyrics from the early days of operetta and musical comedy through the Golden Age, the Post-Golden Age, and today. From early songs you might not know were written by a woman—“Ah Sweet Mystery of Life” and “Hey Big Spender”—to the feminist anthems in A…My Name is Alice and I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road up to the last decade’s explosion of women writing musicals from the serious to the ridiculous.

Directed by Joe Stollenwerk
Music Direction by Joel Kurzynski
Produced by Megan Williams and Eric Bardes
Choreography by JV Katz
