COME FROM AWAY Runs April 6-10

BID_Come From Away promoCOME FROM AWAY
Broadway in Dayton
April 6-10
Schuster Center [Dayton]

COME FROM AWAY is based on the true story of when the community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

The true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. The Sunset Players Announce Cancellation of the Final Weekend of DRINKING HABITS

SSP_Drinking Habits logoCINCINNATI, OH – March 2, 2022 — Due to circumstances beyond our control, we need to cancel the final weekend of performances of our current production, “Drinking Habits”. These performances were scheduled for Thursday (March 3), Friday (March 4), and Saturday (March 5th).

Both postponed 2021 productions, Alice in Wonderland and Laughter on the 23rd Floor have been rescheduled for Summer 2022.  Auditions for our annual children’s production, which has been moved to June, should be announced shortly.

While Sunset Players also had to cancel its planned spring production of Two by Two, we are excited to announce that Queen City Productions has agreed to allow our season tickets holders to attend its upcoming production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee being performed at the Arts Center at Dunham as a replacement for “Two by Two”.  Season Pass Holders will be contacted with Details on making reservations for this alternate production.

Here’s the remainder of The Sunset Players 2021-2022 season:

  • Alice in Wonderland, a treat for kids and those young at heart, brings Alice to life as a group of performers seeks out Alice to provide “her turn” in Wonderland. As her adventure unfolds, Alice encounters many unforgettable characters. Based on the Lewis Carroll classic, this piece was dramatized by William Glennon, and is produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.  Performances are June 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26, 2022. Friday performances will be at 7:00 pm, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.
  • Laughter on the 23rd Floor by Neil Simon. Directed by John Wesseling and produced by special arrangements from Samuel French, this play focuses on the star and writing staff of a weekly comedy-variety show circa 1953 and the writing, fighting, and wacky antics that ensue in the writers’ room. Based upon Mr. Simon’s days writing for Sid Caesar along with Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, and Woody Allen, performances are August 19, 20, 26, 27, 28 and September 1, 2 and 3, 2022.

Again, our thanks for your continuing patience as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times for arts organizations. For ever evolving information about our 41st season and current Covid safety guidance, visit our website at www.sunsetplayers.org . Facemasks may be required, per federal, state and/or local guidance in effect at the time of each performance.
