Synopsis: It’s the mid-1940s, and Elwood P. Dowd insists on including his friend Harvey in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings. Trouble is, Harvey is an imaginary six-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit. To avoid future embarrassment for her family—and especially for her daughter, Myrtle Mae—Veta decides to take drastic measures.  Things don’t work out quite the way anyone expects, but maybe in the long run better than they could have hoped. This is a funny, warm, charming story about acceptance, believing in the good in others, and accepting that there is often more to some things than meets the eye.

The Characters in HARVEY

Elwood P. Dowd (Age 45-55) – a charming eccentric who’s best friend is Harvey, an invisible six-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit. Elwood is well mannered, very friendly, and always assumes the best in people. He is Veta’s older brother.

Veta Louise Simmons (Age 45-55) – Elwood’s younger sister, she is intent on being a part of local fine society and landing a suitable husband for her daughter Myrtle Mae,  but is very concerned about how Elwood (and Harvey) might interfere with those.

Myrtle Mae Simmons (Age 25-35) – Veta’s Daughter (Elwood’s Niece). She is exasperated by the obstacles that Elwood (and Harvey) present to her ability to fit into fine society, and by Veta’s inability to do anything about it.

Dr. Lyman Sanderson (Age 30-35) – a young and highly qualified psychiatrist, handpicked by Dr. Chumley. His talent is only surpassed by his vanity.

Ruth Kelly (Age 25-35) – a young nurse at Chumley’s Rest who is very competent, but wants most of all to have Dr. Sanderson see her as more than a colleague.

Dr. William B. Chumley (Age 50-65) – an esteemed psychiatrist and the head of Chumley’s Rest with years of experience. He is a difficult, exacting man who will go to any length to protect the reputation of his sanitarium.

Duane Wilson (Age 30-50) – the muscle of Chumley’s Rest, a devoted orderly responsible for handling the patients who will not cooperate voluntarily.

Judge Omar Gaffney (Age 50-65) – an old family friend of the Dowds and the family’s lawyer. He is fiercely protective of Veta Louise and the family.

Betty Chumley – (Age 50 – 60) Dr Chumley’s wife; a pleasant, energetic woman.

E.J. Lofgren – (Age 30-60) Cab driver who’s seen it all and is a bit philosophical about it.

Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet – (Age 60-70) Local society juggernaut, from old money, accustomed to being accommodated and her opinion considered.

[Dayton]

Directed by David Shough
Produced by Christina Tomazinis & Rick Flynn

Cast: Jenna De Gruy as Olive, Cydnie Hampton as Betty, Mike Beerbower as Gus & Adam Jones as Tor

The Norwegians is a strong comedy about women scorned in Minnesota and the nice gangsters —- Norwegian hit men —- they hire to whack their ex-boyfriends. Olive is a transplant from Texas and Betty is a transplant from Kentucky, but neither of them were prepared for the Norwegian men they would fall in love with there: the practical, warm, thoughtful, destructive, evil, jilting kind. Olive attempts to hire Gus and Tor to do in her ex-boyfriend who did her wrong.

SWEENEY TODD Postponed by Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre

GHCT_logoFrom Rhonda Lucas, director

GHCT’s production of SWEENEY TODD has been postponed until sometime next season. With a cast of 30 and an orchestra of at least 17, the growing omicron variant and the fact that audiences have not come back full force yet….it was just too big of a risk for health and financial reasons at this time.

Thx to all who expressed interest in helping with crew or interested in auditioning.

Hopefully we get to slay people and bake them in pies next year.

A comedic play, to be announced will be presented in the April slot.

For more information visit www.ghctplay.com.
