The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Award Winning Comedian + Magician Erik Tait Asks You to PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS at Cincy Fringe

CFF18_ Please Shuffle the Cards logoAward winning comedian + magician Erik Tait is proud to announce that his acclaimed show PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is a part of the main lineup for the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. This is the third major run of the show, having completed two separate runs in Columbus to widespread acclaim. PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is a one man show featuring high end sleight of hand developed by the writer performer himself. This production explores the relationship between magic and skill as it endeavors to see how close a magician can come to divulging the secrets he is sworn to keep.

The evening begins when the house opens with a card table on stage and a deck of cards that the audience is invited to thoroughly examine and shuffle. Once the lights go down and the show begins Erik Tait sits behind the table and begins a presentation that Brad Keefe of the Columbus Alive called, “Refreshingly honest about dishonesty.” The show barrels forwards towards the mind bending finale that everyone in the audience is apart of.

One highlight of the show is Erik’s signature effect The Invisible Three Card Monte. This effect earned Erik first prize in a regional magic competition in 2017, and has been invited to compete at the International Brotherhood of Magician’s North American Close Up Contest in July of this year. The effect also earned the notice of television producers and will be making an appearance on network television later this summer.

PLEASE SHUFFLE THE CARDS is more than a magic show. It’s one man’s love affair with 52 pieces of paper turned high concept monologue with a visual twist. While the show consists of close up sleight of hand, a high definition camera system is trained on the table top from the very beginning so every member of the audience can scrutinize the action. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. This isn’t like any card trick you’ve seen before.

Erik Tait is an award winning comedian + magician and top graduate from the Humber College Comedy Writing and Performance program. He is currently the only magician in the world with a degree in comedy, therefore he can academically prove that his magic is hilarious. He has been featured in The Los Angeles Comedy Festival, The Arch City Comedy Festival, The Whiskey Bear Comedy Festival, and appeared at The World Famous Magic Castle. He is also the host and writer of the comedy trivia podcast The Quiz Box as well as a writer performer for the sketch comedy troupe Monday Night Live. He has performed on stages North and South America as well as Europe and a handful of islands in the Caribbean. When he’s not performing he stands quietly in camera shops and tries to justify spending more money on photography equipment to support his habit of taking wildlife photos.
