Get Spooky at Know Theatre’s HALLOWEEN HORROR DOUBLE BILL

KTC_Halloween Horror promo

13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE from Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald
and THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY TRILOGY Ricky Coates
October 20 – November 4, 2017

Know Theatre’s landmark 20th Anniversary Season continues this October with a special, limited run of not one but TWO original Halloween shows!

Created by Cincinnati Fringe Festival veterans Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald and Ricky Coates & Sadie Bowman, these two brand-new tales of horror (and unexpected humor) take over the Know MainStage and will run in repertory from October 20 – November 4.

13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE comes to us from Paul Strickland & Erika Kate MacDonald, creators of past Cincy Fringe favorites Trailer Park Trilogy, Ice Candle (now titled “Evacuated!”), and co-creators of 2015’s Andy’s House of [blank]. These perennial Cincy Fringe hitmakers never disappoint in their theatricality or creativity!

Their new, unsettling shadow play with music is based on a true story, and was originally developed for the Minnesota Horror Fest in 2016.

Synopsis: 1929, a dead body is found and placed on display in hopes of identification. That’s when the “Dead Dreams” began. Experience the shared recurring nightmares that haunted the sleepy town of Sabina OH, and the stranger-than-fiction story of “Eugene.”

Running in repertory with 13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE is THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY, a trilogy of solo-performance zombie tales created by Ricky Coates (previously seen at Cincy Fringe in Tesla ex Machina).

THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY is an unexpected story about the humanity of a zombie that’s a unique blend of physical theater and radio drama and unfolds in three episodes…

THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY (Episode 1)

A fatality. A wakening. A hunger. So begins newly undead Brian Smith’s epic journey to reunite with his wife. As he battles through an all-too-familiar landscape, getting shot, stripped, strangled, chewed, drugged, and electrocuted, the line between man and monster begins to blur…

THE IDES OF UNDEAD MARCH (Episode 2)

The Zombie uprising meets Julius Caesar. Brian Smith reappears as the Prophet of the Phoenix, spreading the “Word of the Host” along the help of his hearse-driving herald, Eli. Unfortunately, this pilgrimage is proving dangerously infectious…

DAUGHTER OF THE DEAD (Episode 3)

In a world where robot drones war with zombie hordes, Penny Smith smuggles herself across a torn land, searching for the man who started it all, her husband. In her arms, she carries the fate of zombies and humans alike. The final act brings audiences to the bottom of the rabbit hole in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi extravaganza, as Sadie Bowman (Calculus: The Musical, The Famous Haydell Sisters) joins Ricky Coates for the most ambitious play of the trilogy.

Told in the style of an action movie, often with just one actor on stage, THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY TRILOGY is an R-rated concoction of puppets, robots, philosophy, fights, blood, guts, sex, and dark laughs – just about everything you would want in Halloween-themed entertainment! Each episode is a standalone story in its own style, but Cincinnati audiences will be the first to have the chance to experience the complete epic narrative by seeing all three!

Celebrate the spookiest time of year with this limited-time-only double bill from two sets of the nation’s most innovative fringe theatre performers – only at Your Theatrical Playground.

13 DEAD DREAMS OF EUGENE and THE ZOMBIE ODYSSEY TRILOGY take the stage October 20 – November 4.

The Passing of Rocco Dal Vera

CCM_Rocce Dal Vera

Rocco Dal Vera.

Updated 4:30pm on Oct. 3

A Memorial Service will be held in the Great Hall of UC’s Tangeman University Center at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30.  More information about the memorial can be found at www.posthope.org/rocco.

How to give back to Rocco

Rocco’s biggest concern in life was making sure his daughter Kendall would always have the medical care required for the lifelong challenges she faces with a debilitating disorder called EDS (Elhers Danlos Syndrome).

The entire family shares this worry now with Rocco passing and appreciates any love you can send her way.

If it is something you feel you would like to do, please go to the donation link on his page and for him we thank you.

From Richard Hess, Chair of CCM Drama

Dear CCM Friends and Family Far and Wide,

Rocco Dal Vera passed away peacefully an hour ago with his family around him. Just today he was asking about us at school and was so grateful that he was able to see so many of you act on Tuesday night in Hamlet. He loved you all.

Rocco was always a big smile, a gentle smile, and his heart was so big that I know he touched every one of us with loving advice at some point. We joked about calling him god, because Rocco knew everything. EVERYTHING. His brain was a wonderment, and he used it to help others in every moment. We will all miss him so much. I am so sorry.

Keep Rocco with you today and through the weekend, smiling on your shoulder, whispering encouragement. Hold each other close and share Rocco’s loving spirit in all you do. Be strong with and for each other, and send special prayers for Denise and Kendall.

‘Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.’

Love,
-Richard
