Cincinnati, OH – The Know Theatre of Cincinnati brings musical clown duo Dr. Dour & Peach’s THE MONSTER SONGS to the 14th Annual Cincinnati Fringe Festival this May 30th – June 11th. Traveling from Washington, DC, the pair presents tales of monsters great and small in a unique combination of comedic songwriting, horror movie references, and theatrical clowning.

Dr. Dour & Peach are expert ethno-crypto-zoo-musicologists. THE MONSTER SONGS is their vehicle to entertain and educate all well-meaning monster-seekers on the dangers of such ventures. Dr. Dour sings songs about monsters. And Peach helps. Together they deliver never-before-told tales of lovesick mummies, giant lizards, bargain-hunting zombies, and other hapless creatures of the night in a cabaret cocktail of original songs, peppered with vaudevillian banter. The mysterious is scrutinized. The strange is eternalized. And the dangerous is epitomized in song. Dr. Dour (vocals, 10-string touch-guitar) and Peach (cello, banjo, cute) use an array of musical stylings in this 60-minute performance. The show is for all ages and for all monsters.

THE MONSTER SONGS features husband and wife team Toby Mulford and Rachel Spicknall Mulford, the performers and co-creators of Dr. Dour & Peach. They’re based in Washington, DC, and have appeared at the Capital Fringe Festival, Clown Cabaret, ABSFest, Shenandoah Fringe, and the New York Clown Theatre Festival. 2016 marked the release of their studio album The Monster Songs, available now on CDBaby.com. This July they return to Capital Fringe in DC with their new show Love and Other Lures. http://www.drdourandpeach.com

To songwriter Toby Mulford, the horror genre is a rich mine of analogies for the human experience. The first monster songs were born when Toby watched Night of the Living Dead after a 10-hour retail shift during the holiday season. That night he dreamed of zombies devouring people, underscored by Bing Crosby’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” He hasn’t stopped writing since. From a tongue-in-cheek bossa nova about a love-sick Pharaoh to a sorrowful folk melody about ancient rituals to promote the harvest, the songs range in feeling as much as they do in style. The subjects themselves include unpredictable protagonists, some dangerous and looming, and some residing within ourselves.

The Cincinnati Fringe Festival (Cincy Fringe) is a 13-day theatre and arts festival produced by Know Theatre of Cincinnati. Live performances occur in over a dozen locations in and around the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, just north of Downtown. Every Festival features 200+ performances of over 40 productions from local, national, and international artists, each featuring unique styles or disciplines and a wide variety of subject matter. http://www.cincyfringe.com

NYC Theatre Co. Brings Indie Rock Shakespeare-Inspired Play to Cincinnati Fringe Festival

CFF_Romeo + Juliet + Anybodys

The Functional Shoes, a New York City theatre company, presents their original indie-rock Shakespeare-inspired play ROMEO + JULIET + ANYBODYS June 6-10th at the 14th annual Cincinnati Fringe Festival.

ROMEO + JULIET + ANYBODYS takes the tragic love story you think you know by heart and rips it a new one. At the center is Anybodys, musical theatre’s most overlooked heroine, fighting for her glimpse of the spotlight and grappling with the reality that in most stories, “you ain’t somebody, you somebody’s girl.”

ROMEO + JULIET + ANYBODYS received a workshop production at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre in New York City in 2016. Featuring original live music, roller-skating, and the perfect white dress, this 50 minute mosh-pit-play is one show you won’t want to miss at the Cincy Fringe Fest.

Fun fact: The playwright is a native Ohioan and alum of The Ohio State University. Nearly a decade ago, she played Anybodys in her high school’s production of West Side Story. Now she returns to finally give this tomboy her say.

ROMEO + JULIET + ANYBODYS is performing at the Know Theatre for the Cincinnati Fringe Festival on June 6th at 8:30pm, June 8th at 6:30pm, and June 10th at 7pm. Tickets are available at: www.cincyfringe.com
