FT_logoCINCINNATI, July 7, 2016 — Cincinnati LAB Theatre’s New Works Festival will present two fully staged workshop productions and two original play readings in a rotating festival repertoire over two weekends, August 4 – August 13, 2016.  All performances will be presented at Falcon Theatre, 636 Monmouth St, Newport, KY.

WORKSHOP SERIES:   The New Works Festival Workshop Series will present two brand-new worskhop productions written by local playwrights:

CHASE THE DRAGON by Kirk Sheppard.  Peter wants to make a difference; his chosen career path should allow him to do so.  But sometimes people run from their past, and other times they chase it. CHASE THE DRAGON is a brand-new play by Kirk Sheppard that explores the lives of at-risk youth and what happens when we don’t have a handle on our own history.  Directed by Jared D. Doren.  Cast:  Carter Bratton, Rupert Spraul, Bob Allen, Tess Talbot and Henry Howland.  Performances August 4, 6, and 12, 2016, at 8pm.

JUDAS by Elizabeth a. Harris.  A betrayer, an outcast, a pariah, the lowest of the low: This is Judas. Or is it? How would our views of Christianity and the Messiah change if we discovered Judas was actually Jesus’ most trusted disciple? JUDAS, a new play by Elizabeth a. Harris, based on the Gospel of Judas, examines the limits of love and self-sacrifice and asks the question: “What would you do if the person you loved most in the world asked you to perform the ultimate betrayal for the good of all humanity?”  Directed by Elizabeth a. Harris.  Cast:  Brian Berendts and Derek Snow.  Performances August 5, 11, and 13, 2016 at 8pm.

DISCOVERY SERIES:  The New Works Festival Discovery Series will complement our Workshop Series productions.  Guest speakers and/or panelists will lead pre-show discussions that focus on social themes and current topics related to the productions.  Pre-performance lectures are scheduled on Thursday, August. 4 (CHASE THE DRAGON) and Thursday, August 11 (JUDAS) at 7pm.

PLAY READING SERIES:  The New Works Festival Play Reading Series will present readings of new plays currently under development by local playwrights.

3SOME by Brian Griffin.  Expectations are shattered and lives are changed when three strangers meet one evening and get something none of them bargained for. Saturday, August 5, 2016 at 5:30pm.

MEDUSA IN YOU by Valetta Anderson.  The murder of the innocents is something no people forget.  And the innocents are every woman’s child, whatever age and swaddled in any color of skin.  Saturday, August 12, 2016 at 5:30pm.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is proud to present the tenth annual FREE Shakespeare in the Park summer tour at local parks around Cincinnati and beyond this summer!

CINCINNATI, July 6, 2016— Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is proud to announce the dates of the 2016 FREE Shakespeare in the Park Tour! This year’s tour has over 30 performances stops (and growing) across three states of brand new productions of “Romeo and Juliet,” “Macbeth,” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area at local community parks and venues.  These performances are FREE and open to the public.  The cast features six actors from CSC Resident Ensemble.  Following the Park Tour, these shows will travel and tour to local schools, community centers, venues and other performing arts locations through May 2017.  Last year, CSC’s FREE Shakespeare in the Park tour had nearly 10,000 people in attendance!

The productions this year will incorporate some exciting and some brand new costume and scenic design. MACBETH directed by Kristin Clippard is set in a Scottish wilderness, inspired by the Pict warrior tribes of medieval Scotland. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM directed by Caitlin McWethy is hip-hop infused with original music created in collaboration with Elementz.  ROMEO AND JULIET directed by Jeremy Dubin is set in modern day featuring a superhero costume ball for the Capulets’ party where Juliet meets Romeo for the first time. All shows will have actors voices amplified on microphones and speakers.  Both shows are suitable for children and families of all ages and are under 2 hours each.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is constantly working to expand their reach even further into the region. We have one of the largest programs for free outdoor Shakespeare in the nation, both in number of stops and the size of the region we reach. For a complete list, including show titles and info on the venues, visit this page: http://cincyshakes.com/events/free-shakespeare-in-the-park/

Admission to Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare in the Park Tour is free and there is no ticket or RSVP required.  All performances are open to all and are general admission, open seating.  Arriving early is recommended for best seating and lawn chairs and blankets are recommended.  For questions regarding inclement weather or for details and rules regarding outside food and drink (including or excluding alcohol), please contact the individual parks and venues.
