After Elwood P. Dowd introduces his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare their family from future embarrassment. Hilarity ensues when Veta is assumed to be a lunatic when she explains to the good doctors at the sanitarium that years of living with the hallucination have caused her to see Harvey too! Mistakenly committed, Veta finally clears the confusion and the search is on for Elwood and Harvey. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood’s delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Eventually, even Veta comes to understand Harvey.

When an ex-boyfriend shows up unexpectedly, a marriage proposal comes from an unlikely suitor and Sugar Lee’s archrival vows she’ll stop at nothing to steal the spa away from her, the girls find their charming Southern life shaken and have to take drastic action.
