Cincinnati Children’s Theatre SANTA’S TOY FACTORY Earns Four LCT Nominations

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s production of SANTA’S TOY FACTORY with 4 LCT nominations for featured actor (Leo Northart III), Scenic Design (David Centers), Stage Management (Jennifer Picone) and Costumes (Kathie Brookfield) as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production.

In the new holiday musical, SANTA’S TOY FACTORY, as the elves prepare for Santa’s Christmas Eve toy deliveries, they are faced with a huge dilemma. The Holiday ‘Spirit Meter’ is precariously low! Wendell, the kindest elf, knows that if the Christmas Spirit fails to reach the meter’s top level, Santa’s sleigh won’t be able to lift off the ground. Through the wonder of song and dance Wendell discovers the real meaning of Christmas: the joy of a happy heart and the magic of a holiday wish fulfilled.

Panelists nominated Leo Northart III, as Santa, whose “beautiful rich vocal abilities give this Santa more than the pre requisite ‘ho-ho-ho’, and he manages to create a focused and three dimensional character.” David Center’s colorful set was “eye-popping” with “lots of cool toys on the shelves”. Stage manager Jennifer Picone “had this complicated show running smoothly,” while Kathie Brookfield’s costumes were “lovely” and showed impressive attention to detail. The show as a whole was “bursting with energy and Christmas spirit”; the kids in the audience were “alternately mesmerized by the magic and laughing with excitement”.

Santa’s Toy Factory continues through December 15th. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.thechildrenstheatre.com/onstage.

Final LCT awards will be determined at the end of the season and announced at the LCT gala in the spring.

Falcon’s IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE Earns Four LCT Nominations

FT_Its a Wonderful LifePanelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized the Falcon Theatre’s IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A RADIO DRAMA with 4 LCT nominations as well as distinguishing it as a recommended production: Ensemble in a Play, Featured Actors Nathan Ruggles and Adam Drake, and Featured Actress Kate Joos Glasheen.

A holiday tradition at Falcon Theatre, but completely reimagined and with a new script, It’s a Wonderful Life brings the beloved story of Bedford Falls alive by using the magic of classical radio in a way that only the unique, imaginative medium of radio can. Fans of the film will recognize all their favorite scenes and characters in vivid detail while newcomers will have the opportunity to experience Frank Capra’s holiday favorite in their own way.

Panelists praised the ensemble cast who did a “marvelous job working together to pull off all of the various voices” “at a breakneck pace”. The three featured actors, Kate Glasheen, Nathan Ruggles, and Adam Drake, who played all the minor characters in the show, were nominated for their “outstanding range of voices and expressiveness”; their “rapid shifts from one character/voice to another were impressive and convincing through a variety of roles.” Overall the production was recommended as “a wonderful surprise and a delightful production, a marvelous way to revisit an old classic”; “an inventive adaptation…enjoyable throughout.”

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE continues through December 15th. Tickets can be purchased at www.falcontheater.net.
