It is with great sadness that we note the passing of LYNDA TROY, founding member and first board president of X*ACT.

Lynda A. (Remer) Troy, of Dayton, formerly of Xenia, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Village. Lynda was born November 11, 1942, in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of Herbert and Marsha Rich Remer, who predeceased her.
Lynda was a member of Temple Beth Or-South Dayton. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1960, and subsequently from Ohio State University with a BA in Education followed by a Master’s Degree in Media Studies from Wright State University. Early in her career, Lynda taught elementary Education and Special Education in Dayton and Xenia public schools.
She retired from the Washington Courthouse City Schools as a high school media specialist. Lynda frequently talked with delight about her time at Washington Courthouse High School, not only as a media specialist, but also her involvement in the many school musicals, Quick Recall, and the foreign student exchange programs.
Prior to Lynda and husband Jerry’s move to Bethany Village in 2018, they resided in Xenia for 50 years, during which time Lynda participated and had leadership roles in several community organizations. Early on she taught English as a second language to newly-arrived Vietnamese families, and she trained others for this same role. Lynda was a founding member and the first president of the Xenia Area Community Theatre. She was a member of Altrusa, and also wrote special interest stories for the Xenia Daily Gazette. Lynda and Jerry enjoyed travel both here and abroad. She was an avid reader and a person who had a positive impact on many others.
In addition to her parents, Lynda was predeceased by daughters Jennifer Diane Troy and Rhonna Jean Troy Surber. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Troy, grandchildren Mitchell Surber of Colorado, Ashley Renee Surber-Banta (Kelsey) and great grandson Kaiden of Lancaster, Kentucky. Lynda is also survived by brother David Remer (Carol) of Alachua, FL, sister-in-law Donna Kabakoff of Centerville, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful attention and care that Lynda received from the nurses and staff at Bethany Village (skilled nursing) and Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Services will be held at 10am, Monday, February 6, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rabbi Judy Chessin officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4-6pm Sunday, February 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield.

Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc will present staged preview readings of its new historical outdoor theatre production, the Shawnee Living History Tour, on Saturday May 20, 200 at 7:00 PM and on Sunday May 21, at 2:00 PM at the Xenia Area Community Theater 45 E. Second Street Xenia, Ohio 45385. Admission is free.
