Village Players of Fort Thomas and director Nathan Henegar are calling for video audition submissions for our 2021 New Works Production, TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT…

Minimal rehearsal requirement, safety first, fun a close second!

Who: 6-20 actors of all shapes, sizes, ages, genders, etc. to fill (and possibly double) roles!

What: record an audition performance of the accompanying monologue or another comedic monologue no longer than 60 seconds

When: submit a video or a link to your audition video to director Nathan Henegar at nathan.henegar@gmail.com no later than 5:00 pm on March 7th! Resumes welcome but not required. Please include all conflicts in the body of the email (see rehearsal details below).

Where: all auditions will be via pre-recorded video; the performance will be recorded at 8 N. Fort Thomas Ave. in the Village Players theater in early May, depending on conflicts and rehearsal schedules.

There will be three rehearsals per role (with likely double-casting) leading up to Recording Week. Recording Week will include several dress rehearsals culminating with the Recording (we capitalize that now, because of unprecedented times). Masks at all rehearsals.

AUDITION MONOLOGUE:

“You always gotta let the last man go. It’s honorable. He’s the last guy to make it out of the bag. The warrior. He’s the last samurai man.

You have to give it some thought and wonder, how did this little M & M do it? How was he skilled enough to be the last M & M in the bag, out of all the other M & M’s in the bag? All the different colors. All the different sizes. I always let the last one go because he was the strongest, the swiftest, the smartest peanut out of the bunch. If you respect the candy, you gotta respect the nut.

Some people will call it science. Others will call it luck. I like to call it destiny. It was destiny combined with talent that made this little fella survive. Picture it. All of these other peanuts, some bigger than you, some faster than you, some smarter than you…all fighting to stay in the back of the bag when you turn it upside down to eat one of them. This little fella beat the odds. He deserves to be set free, just on moral obligation alone. Call me crazy, but no matter what you say, I’m always going to let the last man go.”

Village Players of Fort Thomas and director Jessie Faye are calling for video audition submissions for A TALE OF TAILS, two family-friendly short plays by Fred Tacon and Eric Thomas.

Who: Adults of any age and children/teens 10 years and up

What: record an audition performance of the accompanying Humpty monologue from Holka Polka: A Fairytale Mystery from the Land of Oz by D.M. Larson.

When: submit a link to your audition video (large files attached to email may not come through) to director Jessie Faye at makethedarksmall.faye@gmail.com no later than February 24th! Resumes welcome but not required. Please include all conflicts in the body of the email (see rehearsal details below).

Where: all auditions will be via pre-recorded video; two performances of A TALE OF TAILS on May 23rd, 2021 will be performed LIVE at the Tower Park amphitheater in Fort Thomas.

Rehearsals will be held Thursdays through Sundays beginning in early March, so please be sure to send all conflicts during this time with your audition video. Masks will be required at in-person rehearsals, and cast members will be separated as often as possible.

HUMPTY

“It was a dark and stormy night in fairyland. A night just perfect for witches. With fairy godmother in the clink, I began to wonder if we were ready for a world turned topsy-turvy. Sweet witches and friendly wolves. Wise wizards and princesses with pig noses. It’s a world gone mad but somehow things are looking sunny-side up and we may find some kind of happily ever after in fairytale land.

I was about to call it a day because I had this over easy feeling coming over me… when she rolled in. She had the figure of a fortress and the countenance of a cobra. She was the goddaughter; the witchiest woman west of Walla Walla.

I wondered if this was some kind of yolk. I had already cracked the case of the sleeping prince. Fairy godmother was left with egg on her face. The sleeping spell was only the Easter coloring on a much more rotten egg. She had bigger eggs to fry. And the corruption nearly broke fairytale land apart. Thankfully they had me to put it back together again.”

Village Players of Fort Thomas announces video auditions for its first-ever video production, “IT’S ALIVE-ISH: 7 new plays about weird stuff.” Here’s how:

• Submit a video performing the monologue below to the director, Nathan Henegar, BEFORE midnight, July 9 (no later than 11:59 pm on July 9).
• Alternative monologues not accepted.
• Email the video as an attachment or provide a link to nathan.henegar@gmail.com.
• Roles available for adults of all ages, genders, and ethnicities. (Sorry, no roles for children or teens.) Note: We are specifically seeking at least two African American/Actors of Color.
• This will be a fully staged production, filmed on Aug. 22 and released for viewing on Aug. 29.
• Rehearsals and filming will include all appropriate coronavirus protocols — distancing, masking as possible, limited number of people in the theater, self assessment.
• Rehearsals will be minimal and will begin after casting, schedule TBA.
