I dare you not to laugh — to laugh uproariously at the high jinks on the stage, as Jeeves the valet rescues Bertie Wooster and his upper-class friends and relations from the ridiculous situations they create for themselves in this jazz age comedy set in the late 1920’s. JEEVES IN BLOOM, Margaret Raether’s stage adaptation from works of fiction by the prolific P.G. Wodehouse, wonderfully captures the late British humorist’s renowned wit. The lovably loopy Bertie Wooster always manages to get into socially precarious situations. This time around he finds himself dodging romantic entanglements with a starry-eyed young woman, eluding an enraged chef wielding a meat cleaver, and begrudgingly helping his Aunt Dahlia to commit a burglary. Thank heaven Jeeves is there to save the day!

Characters: 2 F, 5 M

  • Jeeves: The ever-calm, ever pleasant, all-knowing butler to Bertie Wooster. Always seems to be one-step ahead of any situation. Cares for Bertie, despite his flaws.
    Stage age: 35-65
  • Bertie Wooster: Crisp, energetic, Upper class young man. Not as smart as he thinks he is. Stage age: mid-twenties
  • Augustus (Gussie): Bertie’s friend, in love with Madeline but tongue-tied whenever she is around. More comfortable with newts. Stage age: mid-twenties
  • Madeline: A pleasant, Upper class young lady who dreams of romance. Stage-age: mid-twenties
  • Dahlia: Bertie’s aunt. A ‘modern”, no nonsense woman of the Upper Class. Stage age: 40-60
  • Tom: Madeline’s uncle, husband to Deliah. Upper class but doesn’t act it. Loves food, guns and Daisy – in that order. Stage age: 45-65
  • Anatole: Exceedingly egotistical, flamboyantly French chef Stage age: mid-30’s to 40’s

TDW_Cuckoo's NestONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST
Presented by The Drama Workshop
Nov. 7-23
Cheviot

Directed by Joe Penno

With an insane asylum standing in for everyday society, this play is a comically sharp indictment of the Establishment urge to conform. Playing crazy to avoid prison work detail, manic free spirit Randle P. McMurphy is sent to the state mental hospital for evaluation. There he encounters a motley crew of mostly voluntary inmates, including cowed mama’s boy Billy and silent Native American Chief Bromden. The ward is presided over by the icy Nurse Ratched, and Ratched and McMurphy quickly recognize that each is the other’s worst enemy: an authority figure who equates sanity with correct behavior, and a misfit who is charismatic enough to dismantle the system simply by living as he pleases.

TDW Seeks Directors for 2015-2016 Season

TDW_VERTThe Drama Workshop is scheduling director interviews for the 2015 – 2016 season.  We will produce a season consisting of 4-5 shows at the Glenmore Playhouse beginning in the fall of 2015.

TDW has a list of 15 plays that are under consideration by the TDW board for the 2015 – 2016 season. We encourage potential directors to read any or all of the plays under consideration. To obtain the list of plays contact Gretchen Gantner (contact info below). It is not necessary to read all of the plays to apply for a directorship.

***We are asking our director candidates to pitch one additional “wild card” show of his/her choosing, suitable for attracting a wide audience in our theater space. These can be a holiday show, musical, comedy, drama, children’s show etc, but should be of a big-draw, widely known caliber. ***

We are asking that interested potential directors attend a scheduled interview at The Glenmore Playhouse.

Interviews will be conducted in mid October. Should you wish to obtain copies of scripts under consideration and/or schedule an interview time, please contact Gretchen Gantner at (513) 470-5516 or at GRoose1876@aol.com.

The Drama Workshop will be holding open auditions for its December production of Stephen Sondheim’s PUTTING IT TOGETHER on September 22 and 23, 2014. There are parts for 3 men and two women.

Auditions will be held at The Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave, Cheviot, 45211. Doors will open at 6:30pm, with auditions beginning at 7 pm. No auditioners will be accepted after 8:00 pm, so please be on time.

ABOUT THE SHOW
PUTTING IT TOGETHER is a musical revue showcasing the songs of Stephen Sondheim (SWEENEY TODD, FOLLIES, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED…). Drawing its title from a song in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, it celebrates Sondheim’s incomparable career in musical theatre.

Featuring nearly 30 Sondheim tunes, PUTTING IT TOGETHER is all performed by only five people thrown together at a party in a Manhattan penthouse. With a bit of imagination, the guests transform the apartment into the stage of an abandoned theatre, an estate in Sweden, an island outside of Paris, a street off the Roman Forum, the woods of a fairy tale, and a mythical town in the Southwest.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT AUDITIONS

  1. Please bring a résumé and headshot if available. If you do not have a headshot please be prepared to have your photo taken at the auditions. It will be helpful if you fill out the audition forms prior to arriving; they are available at the TDW website at http://thedramaworkshop.org/auditions.
