The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Stages Very First Summer Production

Extra fun before and after DR. SEUSS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT

Cincinnati – This summer, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, the country’s oldest professional theater for young audiences, invites families to be a part of its first summertime show, and its first full-scale production on the Ralph and Patricia Corbett Showtime Stage: DR. SEUSS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT!

Running June 2 – July 9, 2017, DR. SEUSS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT will treat audiences to 36 up-close-and-personal performances in the small 152-seat performance space housed in the company’s facility on Red Bank Road in Hyde Park.

Show times include:

  • Fridays at 10 AM and 7 PM
  • Saturdays at 12 PM and 5 PM
  • Sundays at 2 PM and 5 PM

Each ticket purchased opens the door to a special experience before and after EVERY performance – including:

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s production of DR. SEUSS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT is made possible by PNC Grow Up Great. Auditions Announced for PETER PAN JR. and CINDERELLA at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

TCTC_new logoAUDITION CASTING NOTICE FOR PETER PAN JR and CINDERELLA

This season, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati will hold auditions in May for the first two MainStage productions of the 17-18 season, followed by auditions in August for the last two productions.

All roles are paid positions.

Upon audition registration, you may indicate which shows you would like to be considered for this season.

Auditions are by appointment only. You only need ONE audition appointment even if you are interested in both productions.

Children ages 9-17 and adults 18+ may make an audition appointment. Appointments can be made for:

  • Monday, May 15, 2017 between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM (CHILDREN ONLY Age 9-17)
  • Tuesday, May 16, 2017 between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM (CHILDREN ONLY Age 9-17)
  • Wednesday, May 17, 2017 between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM (ADULTS ONLY 18+)
  • Thursday, May 18, 2017 between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM (ADULTS ONLY 18+)

You MAY be asked to return and attend a “movement callback” on the day of your audition, which will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

PETER PAN JR. callbacks will take place on Saturday, May 20, 3 PM to 7 PM
CINDERELLA callbacks will take place on Sunday May 21, 6 PM to 10 PM.

Auditions and Callbacks are held at our offices located at: 4015 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati OH 45227.

Please bring a memorized song that best shows your vocal range. (1 minute max). Remember your PIANO SHEET MUSIC for your song as we will NOT be auditioning your a cappella skills. An accompanist will be provided. Your sheet music MUST have the piano part, not just the vocal line, and music should be in a 3-ring binder with the cut CLEARLY marked for the accompanist.

You do NOT need to prepare a monologue.

You may be asked to show your dance ability, please bring appropriate movement clothes and shoes.

Please bring a RECENT 8×10 headshot and UPDATED performance resume.

Please plan to arrive at least 10-15 minutes ahead of your appointment to check/correct previously submitted paperwork.

If we are ahead of schedule, we will audition you early.

Due to concentrated rehearsal periods, we ask that you do not have conflicts during rehearsals. In an effort to best facilitate all rehearsal times, all those auditioning will be asked to list all conflicts at the time of the audition. This season, all conflicts will result in a stipend adjustment. Please take note of when rehearsals begin, the day and evening tech and performance schedule, and bring your calendar with you to the audition.

[PETER PAN] Female or Male, a boy without a care in the world who leads the Darling’s on an adventure to Neverland. Strong actor, singer, dancer, belt to a C. Must be comfortable with heights & flights.

[WENDY] Female, the eldest of the Darling children with a certain maternal quality. She is very bright, ever practical and ready for an adventure. Strong actor/singer, sings up to D-flat. Must be comfortable with heights & flights.

[JOHN] Male, the middle Darling child, he is amicable and more proper than his younger brother Strong singer/actor/mover sings up to D-flat. Must be comfortable with heights & flights.

[SMEE] Male, Hook’s sidekick who wants nothing more than to see Hook succeed in his evil plotting. Strong comedic actor.

[LITTLE GIRL] Female, a sweet young girl, the epitome of innocence and curiosity who experiences the story of Cinderella for the first time, strong actor/singer.

[CINDERELLA] Female, a young house maid who is treated poorly by her Stepmother and Stepsisters, but with spunk and a little magic is transformed into a beautiful princess who’s dreams come true. Strong actor/dancer/singer with powerful pop vocals.

[STEPMOTHER] Female, Cinderella’s wicked matriarch who is obsessed with power and status and determined to marry off one of her daughters to the prince. Strong actor/singer with powerful pop vocals.

[FAIRY GODMOTHER] Female, Cinderella’s mother figure, a loving nurturing fairy who makes Cinderella’s dreams come true. Starts off as an old beggar woman and is transformed into her beautiful fairy Godmother. Strong actor/singer with pop vocals.

[PRINCE DANIEL] Male, a dashing, handsome young prince who is currently searching for a girl who loves him for who he is and not for his wealth or power. Strong actor/dancer/singer with pop sensibility.

[LORD HIGH CHAMBERLAIN] Male, the Prince’s right hand man, a stuffy, yet nurturing assistant who is determined to help the Prince find a princess. Strong comedic actor.

[LIVERY] Male, the Lord High Chamberlain’s assistant who works with him to find the foot the fits the slipper. Strong actor/singer/dancer.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati Seeking Musical Theatre Performers of All Ethnicities

TCTC_new logoCincinnati –The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT), the country’s oldest professional theatre for young audiences, is accepting submissions for diverse roles in the 2017-18 touring season and within the new TCT Resident Artist Company.   

Troupe members will receive a full-time salary of $25k/year plus full benefits (comprehensive benefits package includes Health/Dental/Vision, 403(b), PTO – paid time off).  Each member of the Resident Artist Company will be guaranteed four to five projects each year: participating in tours, teaching, new works development, and arts administration.

“This is not a just a gig.”, said Roderick Justice, Artistic Director of TCT. “Each recruit will be a full-fledged employee and part of the TCT family.  This is the opportunity for nine artists to be a part of something fresh, exciting, and rewarding.  We are looking nationwide for a diverse and passionate troupe of artists, teachers, and versatile performers.  The actors we will hire must be able to step into a variety of roles, yet be flexible enough to learn and cultivate new arts administrative skills.”

Full-time employment will begin August 1, 2017.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is the only professional theater in the region that devotes its entire MainStage season to children. TCT brings more than 103,000 people downtown annually and reaches over 68,000 students through touring productions.  The company’s TCT Academy offers arts training to children in a variety of disciplines.

Since 1924, The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) has been educating, entertaining and engaging audiences of all ages through professional theatrical productions and arts education programming for schools and families throughout the region.  “We are helping to create the future arts patrons for our city, while at the same time are filling a gap left by the reduction in arts education in schools,” said Kim Deaton, Managing Director and CEO of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. TCT brings art to life for children and the young at heart through three key programs:  TCT MainStage at the Taft, TCT on Tour (including WorkShops), and TCT Academy (performing arts instruction).

Our TCT MainStage at the Taft series performed in downtown Cincinnati includes daytime performances for school audiences and weekend performances for the public.  Four production runs are held each year, with individual shows formatted into one-hour, family friendly events. For each Broadway-quality production, we present seven performances for public audiences and ten performances for school students.

TCT on Tour brings the magic of live theatre directly to those who would otherwise be unable to enjoy it. TCT tours five productions each season, serving children of all ages (kindergarten through high school) with titles taken from classic literature, fairy tales, history and other works studied in school curricula. The acting troupe travels with innovative sets, which are designed to be both portable and visually enticing. TCT on Tour prides itself on productions that are both educational and entertaining, as well as affordable for schools and other venues across the broad geographic spectrum of Ohio. TCT on Tour also includes the WorkShop division, which takes a teaching artist directly into individual classrooms or after school programs, for a more interactive arts integration experience with children from pre-K through 16 years of age. Many of the workshops we offer examine contemporary concerns through the introduction of historical figures, such as Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Langston Hughes; while other workshops bring social topics such as healthy eating, self-esteem and anti-bullying to life through theater, music, writing and role-playing.

Both TCT MainStage and TCT on Tour school shows are followed by a question and answer session between the audience and the cast and/or TCT representative (often, the Director) and are accompanied by complementary study guides, with state and national standards in mind, available on our website.  Our productions are intended to act as a bridge for local curricula, giving schools access to high quality arts education as well as serving as a catalyst for integrating the arts with other subjects.

TCT Academy offers arts training to children in a variety of disciplines through our twelve-week, one hour/week class sessions, our one-week themed summer camps for introductory arts makers or our audition-based, two-week STAR Camp Red Bank program and one-month, audition-based STAR Intensive NKU summer program for children with demonstrated talent and interest in the performing arts. In addition to learning the arts, a primary objective for these arts integrated classes is to provide students with the necessary tools to become successful adults.  Whether the students continue in an arts field or choose a different career path, the skills they develop in these programs can be leveraged and will last a life time.

The TCT Showtime Series at Red Bank is a brand-new destination for theater education expanding TCT’s reach into the community.  The Ralph and Patricia Corbett Showtime Stage is a small 152-seat performance space housed in our new facility on Red Bank Road. This new theater gives us the opportunity to program for new audiences, including preschoolers as well as middle and high school students.  Thus, we begin the creation of future arts patrons in Cincinnati at an even earlier age, and extend their engagement through high school.  The Showtime Series will allow us to program the new space with more than 64 performances.  The two productions slated for the coming year are:  Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat June 2-July 9, 2017; and the regional premiere of Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical February 23-March 25, 2018.

Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.
