2015-2016 Season Auditions Announced at Stagecrafters

SC_logoStagecrafters is pleased to announce auditions for their 2015 – 2016 season. All auditions will be at the Sharonville Cultural Arts Center, 11165 Reading Rd. If you have questions please use the contact form at www.stagecraftersinc.org.

Auditions for the opening show – Lanford Wilson’s TALLEY’S FOLLY directed by Michael L. Morehead -will be held Monday July 6 and Wednesday July 8 starting at 7pm. Show dates are November 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15, 2015.

TALLEY’S FOLLY Characters –

  • Matt Friedman – playing age 42, a Lithuanian Jew
  • Sally Talley – age 31, an Ozark heiress

TALLEY’S FOLLY is the story of one night in the lives of two unlikely sweethearts, Matt Friedman and Sally Talley. The one-act play takes place in a dilapidated boathouse on the Talley farm in Lebanon, Missouri. It is the 4th of July in 1944. While on vacation the previous summer, Matt met Sally and has sent her a letter every day since. Though the single reply from Sally gave him no hope for romantic encouragement, he has bravely returned to ask her to marry him. Matt is 42, a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant. Sally, 31, is the heiress of a clothing dynasty. Neither expected to ever fall in love, and yet, despite themselves, they have. This 1980 Pulitzer Prize winning Romance/Comedy written by Lanford Wilson is an actor’s dream. Every emotion is explored by both actors, and the lyrical dialogue is some of the best written in the last third of the 20th century.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring EVERY conflict from September 1, 2015 through November 15, 2015. Headshot appreciated but not necessary. If cast, the date for Drop Book will be September 20. Scripts will be mailed once dues are paid.

Auditions for the other two shows will be Wednesday July 21 and Thursday July 22 beginning at 7pm.

The second show will be VANITIES by Jack Heifner directed by Karen Vanover. Show dates are April 2, 3, 8, 9 & 10, 2016.

VANITIES Characters –

  • Joanne – play ages 18 – 28
  • Kathy – play ages 18 – 28
  • Mary – play ages 18 – 28

A bittersweet comedy that is an astute, snapshot sharp chronicle of the lives of three Texas girls. In 1963, Joanne, Kathy and Mary are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Their lives have diverged their friendship, which once thrived on assumption as well coordinated as sweater sets. Old time banter rings false. Their attempts at honest conversation only show they can no longer afford to have so much in common. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring all conflicts from early January – April 10, 2016.

The final production will be TIME STANDS STILL by Donald Margulies and directed by Michael L. Morehead. Show dates are May 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15, 2016.

TIME STANDS STILL Characters –

  • Sarah Goodwin, late 30s – early 40s, a photojournalist
  • James Dodd, late 30s – early 40s, a freelance journalist
  • Richard Ehrlich, mid 50s, a photo editor
  • Mandy Bloom, mid 20s, an event planner

TIME STANDS STILL is set in Brooklyn and revolves around Sarah, a photo journalist who has returned from covering the Iraq war after being injured by a roadside bomb, and her reporter boyfriend James who is swamped by guilt after leaving Sarah alone in Iraq. They receive a visit from their friend Richard, a photo editor, who introduces them to his new girlfriend Mandy, who is much younger than he. The play focuses on their relationships and Sarah and James’ prospects at a more conventional life.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring ALL conflicts from March 1 – May 15, 2016.

TALLEY’S FOLLY by Lanford Wilson – 1 m, 1 f

The scene is the ornate, deserted Victorian boathouse on the Talley place in Lebanon, Missouri; the time 1944. Matt Friedman, an accountant from St. Louis, has arrived to plead his love to Sally Talley, the susceptible, but uncertain daughter of the family. Bookish, erudite, totally honest and delightfully funny, Matt refuses to accept Sally’s rebuffs and her fears that her family would never approve of their marriage. Charming and indomitable, he gradually overcomes her defenses, telling his innermost secrets to his loved one and, in return, learning hers as well. Gradually he awakens Sally to the possibilities of a life together until, in the final, touching moments of the play, it is clear that they are two kindred spirits who have truly found each other—two “lame ducks” who, in their union, will find a wholeness rare in human relationships.

VANITIES by Jack Heifner – 3 f

A bittersweet comedy that is an astute, snapshot sharp chronicle of the lives of three Texas girls. In 1963, Joanne, Kathy and Mary are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Their lives have diverged their friendship, which once thrived on assumption as well coordinated as sweater sets, is strained and ambiguous. Old time banter rings false. Their attempts at honest conversation only show they can no longer afford to have very much in common.

TIME STANDS STILL by Donald Margulies – 2 m, 2 f

TIME STANDS STILL focuses on Sarah and James, a photojournalist and a foreign correspondent trying to find happiness in a world that seems to have gone crazy. Theirs is a partnership based on telling the toughest stories, and together, making a difference. But when their own story takes a sudden turn, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life.

Directed by Michael L. Morehead

Cast: Elizabeth Beatty, Kate Brauer-Bell, Michael Gettinger, Russ D. McGee, Liz Nelson Wyan & Amanda Wilson.

Warm-hearted, irreverent, zany and brilliantly imaginative, the play teems with humanity and humor as it examines the plight of three young Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future-but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.

Actress Needed for CRIMES OF THE HEART at Stagecrafters

SC_logoSadly, I just found out that the actress that I had cast in the role of ‘Chick’ in CRIMES OF THE HEART has to drop the role for personal reasons. I am going to miss working with her. However, that has opened up a part in the show.

Here are the particulars: Rehearsals begin with a read-thru on March 10, Tuesday in a rehearsal facility in Oakley. Show opens May 9, Saturday in Sharonville. Rehearsals divided into modified French Scenes (entrances only), and will be held, in general, TU-TH-FR at 7p, and SU at 2p. The actress will not need to be at all rehearsals until some time in April when we start working full acts, but will need to be available for 4-6 Rehearsals in March. Playing age is 30-‘ish’.

Stagecrafters is the producing theatre. The person in the role will have to be committed primarily to this show (meaning not having other show conflicts…I know you all think you can do it, but I would rather not have to worry about it). Please email director Michael L. Morehead at morehead71@gmail.com if interested
