THE GLASS MENAGERIE by Tennessee Williams
Amanda Wingfield is a faded remnant of Southern gentility who now lives in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura, who has a physical handicap and debilitating shyness. When Amanda convinces Tom to bring home from his workplace a “gentleman caller” for Laura, the illusions that Tom, Amanda, and Laura have each created in order to make life bearable collapse about them.
ROLES:
Tom Wingfield:
Male, mid 20’s to low 30’s. The play’s narrator, he recounts memories of his family to the audience. Languishing in a dead end job in the shoe warehouse, Tom is a restless dreamer, torn between his responsibility to his family and chasing his desires.
Amanda Wingfield:
Female, 50 to low 60’s An aging Southern belle clinging to her memories of a more genteel time and place. Deserted by her husband, she is left alone to care for her two children.
Laura Wingfield:
Female, mid 20’s – low 30’sSensitive and painfully shy. A childhood illness has left her physically impaired. She seeks refuge from reality in an imaginary world of glass animals and old records.
The Gentleman Caller/Jim O’Connor:
Male, mid 20’s to low 30’s A co-worker of Tom’s from the warehouse and a former classmate of Laura’s. He is your average, everyday, nice guy. He has an easygoing demeanor.

Spanning more than 35 years, our play explores the possibilities that open up in the lives of an array of women as they come into contact with a certain strand of pearls. While the pearls have been stolen, bought, bestowed, unstrung and nearly lost follow their story as the pearls touch the lives of mothers and daughters, sisters and friends, even husbands and wives as they weave a deeply affecting story of love and loss.

The role of Anna has been cast
Claire: 30s
a young, unattached lesbian woman living on the fringes of upscale Victorian society; once was Anna’s lover, but that has ended and she is currently pursuing a young uninitiated girl for whom she has fallen head over heels; visits Anna, her ex, to ask her to allow Claire to meet with her prospective lover in Anna’s apartment; less educated and younger than Anna.
Catherine: 20s
Anna’s Scottish maid; has to put up with Anna and Claire’s merciless verbal abuse, but in the end there is much more to her than meets the eye; must have superb comedic timing and the ability to execute a Scottish dialect.
Both roles must have strong comedic timing while being able to deftly navigate Mamet’s quick witted repartee that features modern sensibilities couched in Victorian turns of phrase.
