Adapted from the original 1947 LUX Radio Broadcast this “live radio play” complete with Foley effects and a score of holiday carols, Miracle on 34th Street  is a beloved musical that will melt even the most cynical of hearts. Our story begins as Doris Walker frantically recruits a last minute replacement for a drunken Santa for Macy’s Christmas parade. The man proves ideal for the job and for good reason – he says his name is Kris Kringle and that he’s the real Santa Claus. This tale takes us all the way to the Supreme Court where one little girl’s belief makes all the difference in this “Miracle.”

Ages are reference points if you think you can pull of the recommended age than please auditions.

  • Lyman Wyeth (Lead): Male, 50’s – 60’s
patriarch of the family, a real patrician of Californian royalty. Hollywood “B” actor with some celebrity and political influence, seemingly conservative but with a sense of humor and a deep love and care for his adult children.
  • Polly Wyeth (Lead): Female, 50’s – 60’s
Lyman’s wife. Graceful, funny, and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Deeply devoted to the preservation of family and all it stands for, and even more, the health of her husband.
  • Brooke Wyeth (Lead): Female, late 20’s  – upper 30’s
Lyman and Polly’s adult daughter. Writer, lives in New York although born in California. Thrives on solitude, coffee shops, intelligent conversation, and being understood. Loves family but also independence.
  • Trip Wyeth (Lead): Male, 20’s – lower 30’s
Brooke’s brother. TV producer. Easy going, takes life as it comes. Loves being around family and, oddly, all its traditions. Devoted to older sister and her health.
  • Silda Grauman (Supporting): Female, 50’s – 60’s
Polly’s sister. Indeterminate age, a former TV writer, definitely from the more Bohemian gene in the family. Impulsive, creative, reckless, fragile, and funny. Rather be living alone but is dependent upon Polly and Lyman for support entirely.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

by John Robin Baitz

Brooke Wyeth after a six year absence returns home to Palm Springs to celebrate Christmas with her parents, brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened.
