THE DINING ROOM is a comedy of manners written by A.R. Gurney. It is set in a single dining room where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. Each story is focused around a different family during different time periods who has in their possession the same dining room furniture set, manufactured in 1898. It is the setting for breakfasts, dinners, and all special occasions for each of the families who gather round the table.

Mason Players Announce May Show

MCP_The Dining RoomMason Players’ May production is A.R. Gurney’s classic work, The Dining Room. The show is a comedy of manners set in a single dining room, where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. It is the setting for breakfasts, dinners, and all special occasions for each of the families who gather round the table, which was manufactured in 1898.

In the Players’ production, three actors and six actresses will portray the more than 50 characters who span eras, generations, ages, careers, interests, and relationships. The show is directed by Gail Rudolph, with Assistant Direction by Robert Terry. Cori Bauer is the show’s Stage Manager and the Producer is Susan Berger.

The Dining Room will be presented May 4, 6, 11, 12, and 13 at 8:00 PM and May 7 at 2:00 PM in the Mason Community Playhouse at 5529 Mason Road in Mason.

Auditions Announced for COMPANY at Mason Community Players

MCP_sm logoMason Community Players announces auditions for its summer musical, COMPANY.

Performance dates are: July 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 at 8:00 PM and July 23 at 2:00 PM.
Performances will be at the Mason Community Playhouse.

Director Jim Cronin, Music Director Lara Gonzalez, and Producer Tess Catlin invite you to audition.

Auditions will be held Saturday, April 15th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 16th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and Monday, April 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Mason Community Playhouse, 5529 Mason Road in Mason

The audition will consist of selected readings (non-musical) from the script or other supplied material and a musical audition piece (that you supply). An accompanist will be provided for your musical number. Please do not audition with a song from Company.

Company is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The show follows the bachelor, Bobby, in a series of vignettes interacting with his 10 married friends and 3 girlfriends, who throw him a party for his 35th birthday. The original 1970 Broadway production was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards, winning 6. Cast Announced for ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT at Mason Community Players

MCP_sm logoDirector Ray Lebowski, Producer Laureen Catlin and Asst. Producer Mary Stan Fizer are excited to welcome six talented performers to the cast of ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT.

The cast includes:

  • Mark Culp as Albert Soady
  • Stephen Catlin as Reuben Soady
  • Justin Hanks as Remnar Soady
  • Matt Lovell as Jimmer Negamanee
  • Jim Cronin and Ranger Tom T. Treado
  • Jessie Faye as Moon Dance Soady

Dana Davis will serve as Stage Manager for the show.

Escanaba is a snapshot into the lives of the Soady men. Retreating to their “home away from home” in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan they can spend time together doing their two favorite things … drinking and bagging bucks. At 35, though, Reuben Soady is in danger of being the oldest family member in history without a buck to call his own. Laughs abound as you get a glimpse into this traditional male rite of passage as lived out in the unique “Yooper” way.

ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT will be performed September 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 8:00 PM and September 10 at 2:00 PM in the Mason Community Playhouse.

Popular off-Broadway, the show was written by Matt Cox and came to the stage in 2015. It is the story of the “others” who populated a famous wizarding school; specifically the Puffs. It has been dubbed “a fast-paced romp” and acclaimed as “never going more than a minute without a laugh.”  Contain explicit language.
