Mariemont Players Announces THE WISDOM OF EVE

Mariemont Players presents THE WISDOM OF EVE, the first show in our 2017-18 season, at the Walton Creek Theater, 4101 Walton Creek Road (just East of Mariemont), September 8-24.

An engrossing and revealing “inside” story of life in New York’s theatre world, told in terms of an unscrupulous ingénue’s rise to Broadway stardom. Adapted from the story by Mary Orr, on which the film All About Eve (winner of 6 Oscars) and the hit musical Applause were based.

THE WISDOM OF EVE is directed by Dee Anne Bryll, produced by Tom Storey, and features the talents of Linda Callahan, Merritt Beischel, Katey Blood, John Langley, Lon Nease,Aaron Bates, Jim Waldfolge, Joel Lind, Rilla Foster, and Betsy Bossart.

Come visit our beautifully renovated auditorium complete with more comfortable seating, center aisle seats, new carpeting, fresh paint, aisle lighting, and a sound induction loop for those with hearing aid T switches and head sets for those with low hearing issues.

Cast Announced for BECKY’S NEW CAR at Mariemont Players

Synopsis

Director Applications Being Accepted by Mariemont Players for 2018-2019 Season

MPI_logoOn behalf of Mariemont Players, Inc., I write to cordially invite you to consider directing for the MPI 2018-2019 season.

You can find a director application form on the Marimont Players website at www.mariemontplayers.com.

We try to choose plays that directors feel passionate about and are eager to see presented on a premier community theater stage.

Review of applications will begin on August 1.

Season slots are September, November, January, March, May and July.  We look for vehicles including comedy, drama, family fare, small musicals and revues to entertain and engage our patrons.

Director interviews will be held in September.

Auditions Announced for BECKY’S NEW CAR at Mariemont Players

  • Beginning early November on weekday evenings and some Saturdays and Sundays.

Synopsis
This laugh-out-loud amusement park ride will take you on a comedic cruise through the perils of middle-aged longing. Fasten your seat belt and enjoy the deadpan humor and U-turn plot twists as Becky leads you down the road less traveled.

Characters (4 men, 3 women):

  • Becky Foster (45-55+): The center of the story. Charming, funny, engaging, honest, charismatic. Becky is a wife and mother.  She is loyal, hardworking, and missing something. What? She’s not sure. Becky is required to interact with the audience during the production.
  • Joe Foster (45-55): Becky’s husband. He is strong, pragmatic, honest, sharper than he looks and a loyal family man with a big heart.
  • Chris Foster (23-28): Becky and Joe’s son. He lives in the basement. He is a graduate student studying psychology. He is smart, funny, easy-going, yet passionate – a good kid.
  • Walter Flood (50-65): A very wealthy businessman recently widowed. He is charming, friendly, gentle, and a bit out of touch, especially when it comes to members of the opposite sex.
  • Kensington (Kenni) Flood (23-28): Walter’s daughter. She is pretty, cynical, smart, a bit spoiled – yet grounded.
  • Steve (40-55): A recently widowed car salesman who works with Becky. He is neurotic, emotional, whiny, manic, clueless. He’s a bit of a nebbish, but not a bad guy underneath it all.
  • Ginger (45-55): Walter’s single neighbor who has recently lost all of her money and the things that go along with it. She is jaded, funny, honest, and lonely.  She’s on the prowl.

Auditions will consist of cold readings of the script. Resumes and head shots are appreciated and encouraged.

This comedy spritzes a wonderfully innocent idealism into the air through the simple story of a tramp who cons himself into an old folks home, in disguise of course. He proceeds to alert the residents to the joie de vivre they have long buried under too many layers of despair and boredom.
