ETC_new_logo_banner

THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE
Sept. 6-25
How can an Elvis impersonator become a winning drag queen in the Florida Panhandle? With an empty bank account and pregnant wife, Casey’s going to have to answer that question fast in this music-filled comedy about finding your true voice.

BROWNSVILLE SONG (B-SIDE FOR TRAY)
Oct. 11-30
“My name is Tramaine Berry Thompson and I am more than meets the eye…” A senseless act of gang violence alters a high school senior’s dreams, leaving his family to pick up the pieces and find hope and resilience within their tight-knit Brooklyn borough.

CINDERELLA: AFTER EVER AFTER
Nov. 30-Dec. 30
An original new work and sequel to ETC’s “fractured fairy tale.” With book by Joseph McDonough, lyrics by David Kisor, and music by Fitz Patton, the story of Cinderella and Prince Freddy continues.

FIRST DATE
Jan. 17-Feb. 5, 2017
Aaron is a “blind date virgin,” while Casey has been on more than her fair share. When the two are set up by a mutual friend, sparks fly—or do they? The night unfolds over the course of this couple’s hilarious first date, and it’s not without its share of surprises in the form of imaginary visits from Aaron’s ex-girlfriend, Casey’s uptight sister, the pair’s protective parents and even their future son! Google background checks, awkward pauses and bailouts are all there during this unforgettable first encounter between two romantics, who just might be perfect for each other. Or not.

WHEN WE WERE YOUNG AND UNAFRAID
Feb 21-March 12, 2017
Agnes has turned her quiet bed and breakfast into one of the few spots where a woman on the run can seek refuge.  But to Agnes’ dismay, her latest young runaway Mary Anne is having a profound influence on her teenage daughter Penny, forcing each girl to question her destiny.  And as the drums of the feminist revolution grow louder, Agnes is forced to confront her own presumptions about the people she’s been trying to help.

BLOOMSDAY
April 4-23
Set in Dublin against the backdrop of James Joyce’s Ulysses, BLOOMSDAY follows a man in search of the woman who captured his heart 30 years earlier. Weaving in and out of time, we witness the very separate paths their lives have taken. A moving and sometimes heartbreaking comedy; this new play brings the power and importance of living in the present into the light.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Presents Emotionally-Charged Drama with Regional Premiere of ANNAPURNA, March 22-April 10, 2016

ETC_Annapurna logo(Cincinnati, OH) Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati ascends an emotional mountain with the regional premiere of the gripping comedy-drama ANNAPURNA by Sharr White. This powerful story unpacks the tangled history between two ferociously damaged people who battle an avalanche of love, loss, and unanswerable questions. Sharr White’s sharp and poetic writing returns to the ETC stage in this darkly-funny production, playing March 22-April 10, 2016. Directed by D. Lynn Meyers.

What if you had experienced the defining moment of your life—but couldn’t remember it? Twenty years ago Emma walked out on cowboy-poet Ulysses in the middle of the night, taking their young son with her. That’s given Ulysses two decades to write his magnum opus, perfect his naked cooking techniques, and move into a dingy trailer with a phone-eating dog. Now, hearing he’s in dire straits, Emma tracks him down to a trailer park in the wilds of Colorado to hash out the best and worst of their marriage, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her departure. Their reunion, alternately comic and conflicted, is full of razor sharp wit and brutal honesty.

“Sharr White has a magnificently beautiful voice for dealing with very difficult human issues in rather poetic and articulate ways,” explains Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “I love that he uses the imagery of this massive mountain to symbolize how we climb in our daily lives. He puts us at the base with people who have a deep and devastating mystery hanging between them, showing us that the longest journey to any relationship, and to the heart of anyone, is more perilous than scaling any mountain range.”

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati Presents a Gripping Drama with the Regional Premiere of GROUNDED, January 26-Feb. 14, 2016

ETC_Grounded logo(Cincinnati, OH) The second half of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati’s 30th Anniversary Season soars to new heights with the regional premiere of the captivating drama GROUNDED by George Brant. This gripping and powerful story is experienced through the fierce eyes of a female fighter pilot whose unexpected pregnancy changes the course of her career in the sky. Brace yourself for this award-winning, one-woman thriller, playing January 26-February 14, 2016. Directed by Michael Evan Haney. Premiere Sponsor is LPK.

An unexpected pregnancy ends an ace fighter pilot’s career in the sky. Reassigned to operate remote-controlled military drones in the Middle East from a windowless trailer outside Las Vegas, she hunts terrorists by day and returns to her family each night. As the pressure to track a high-profile target mounts, the boundaries between the desert in which she lives and the one she patrols half a world away begin to blur. The struggle to navigate her dual identities may be her toughest mission yet.

“The story of GROUNDED is intensely human,” explains Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “George Brant has created an extremely beautiful template for a very unsettling story. We’re battling with drones and intelligence more than with boots on the ground. Michael Haney demonstrates his amazing talent directing this kind of dramatic, one-person material. The relationship ETC has had with him over the years has been nothing but terrific.”
