2021-2022 Season Announced by Dayton Theatre Guild

DTGANNOUNCING THE 2021/2022 DAYTON THEATRE GUILD SEASON

With our on-line production of THE ROOMMATE, the long intermission is over. But in August we will open our doors back up and invite you all back to our mainstage!

We are most happy to announce our 2021/2022 season:

MORNING’S AT SEVEN by Paul Osborn
Production dates: August 20-September 5, 2021

Directed by Rick Flynn
Produced by Christina Tomazinis

This 1939 comedy tells the story of four aging sisters who live in a small mid-western town, and their long-standing sibling rivalries. Three of them — Ida, Cora and Arry — have lived next door to each other for fifty years, and Esther, the eldest, lives only a few blocks away. We quickly learn that living so close to one another has taken its toll. Some start to question their lives and decide to make some changes before it’s too late. In 1980, MORNING’S AT SEVEN was nominated for the Tony award for Best Revival of a Play.

WOMEN IN JEOPARDY! by Wendy MacLeod

Production dates: October 8-24, 2021
Auditions: August 23 & 24, 2021

Directed by Margie Strader
Produced by Deirdre Bray Root

Divorcées Mary and Jo are suspicious of their friend Liz’s new boyfriend, who is just plain creepy. He’s a dentist with a copy of Silence of the Lambs in his waiting room and an antique dentistry collection in his basement — and worse, he may be a serial killer! His missing hygienist was just found dead, apparently murdered by a dental instrument. Trading their wine glasses for spy glasses, the ladies try to discover the truth and save their friend before it’s too late.

THE ROAD TO MECCA by Athol Fugard

Production dates: December 3-19, 2021
Auditions: October 11 & 12, 2021

Directed by Scott Madden
Produced by Debra Kent & Brian Buttrey

Helen Martins is a South African woman living in a Christian community. She realizes she is getting older, and her neighbors expect her to move into a nursing home. Pastor Byleveld comes to her house to collect the papers approving her move, but Helen refuses to sign. Her friend, Elsa comes to visit from Cape Town, hoping to help settle the situation, and Helen’s neighbors are concerned about the odd sculptures Helen is creating in her yard.

THE NORWEGIANS by C. Denby Swanson

Production dates: February 4-20, 2022
Auditions: December 6 & 7, 2021

Directed by David Shough
Produced by Christina Tomazinis & Rick Flynn

The Norwegians is a strong comedy about women scorned in Minnesota and the nice gangsters —- Norwegian hit men —- they hire to whack their ex-boyfriends. Olive is a transplant from Texas and Betty is a transplant from Kentucky, but neither of them were prepared for the Norwegian men they would fall in love with there: the practical, warm, thoughtful, destructive, evil, jilting kind. Olive attempts to hire Gus and Tor to do in her ex-boyfriend who did her wrong.

THE PRICE by Arthur Miller

Production dates: March 25-April 10, 2022
Auditions: February 7 & 8, 2022

Directed by Debra Kent
Produced by K.L.Storer

Years after an angry breakup, two brothers, Victor and Walter Franz, are reunited by the death of their father. As they sort through his possessions in an old brownstone attic, the memories evoked by his belongings stir up old hostilities. THE PRICE is about family dynamics, the price of furniture and the price of one’s decisions. It premiered on Broadway in 1968, and has had four revivals since. THE PRICE was nominated for two Tony Awards in 1968, including best play.

THE OLD MAN AND THE OLD MOON
A Play With Music
Book, Music, and Lyrics by Pigpen Theatre Co.

Production dates: May 27-June 12, 2022
Auditions: March 28 & 29, 2022

Directed by Jeff Sams
Produced by Debra Strauss & Brian Buttrey

The Old Man tends to The Old Moon, refilling the light that spills out every night. When his wife unexpectedly leaves home, The Old Man abandons his post to find her and plunges the world into darkness. His eventful journey across land, air, and sea reminds them —- and us —- of the unwavering power of love. This is basic storytelling at its best, and a lesson about the inevitability of change. It reminds us of the magic of folktales that take place in a timeless land far, far away.

  • A résumé and headshot are not required but are appreciated.
  • Please provide a list of all known conflicts.

Character breakdowns:

  • Sharon — 54 year-old woman (race/ethnicity open)
Sharon is not naive but she has lived a stereotypical, normal, Midwestern, middle-class life with little sense of adventure. She’s still a little wounded and disillusioned by her recent divorce. Her craving for adventure is awoken by the introduction of Robyn into her life.
  • Robyn — 56 year-old woman (race/ethnicity open)
Robyn is a more worldly woman with a darker past who is trying to turn over a new leaf. She has a tinge of cynicism coming from hard knocks.

*(actors need to be able to play these ages rather than actually *be* these ages)

(usually Mon-Thu)
Sat, May 29 will be the Tech rehearsal

Performances Cancelled Until August 2021 at Dayton Theatre Guild

DTG_See You in August logoWe regret that due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic we are postponing our live performances until August of 2021, when we plan to kick off our 2021/2022 season.

Your health and safety, and that of our volunteers, casts, and production crews is of the utmost concern. We have come to this difficult decision as so many of our fellow arts organizations, both local and around the world, have done.

We look forward to offering you a robust season when we open. Please stay tuned for information on upcoming productions and ticket information.

During the pandemic, and as we approach the end of the year, the Dayton Theatre Guild would appreciate any monetary donation, in any amount you are able to make. All donations will be used to help keep the Guild viable until we are able to reopen to the public.

We have been fortunate to have your loyal patronage for all these years, and we are impatient to get back to the business of “Giving You Good Theatre, Done Well!”

Be well and stay safe!
