Hello Dolly!
May 22 – June 1, 2014
Book by Michael Stewart/Music and Lyrics by Jerry Herman/Based on the Play “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder

HELLO, DOLLY! is an ebullient and irresistible story of the joy of living, glittering with happy songs, shining with loving scenes, alive with the personality of one of the most fabulous characters on the musical stage…Dolly Gallagher Levi! Classic musical numbers include Put On Your Sunday Clothes, Ribbons Down My Back, Before the Parade Passes By, Elegance, It Only Takes A Moment and So Long, Dearie.

The Sunshine Boys
June 19 – June 29, 2014
By Neil Simon

The story focuses on characters Al Lewis and Willy Clark, a one-time vaudevillian team known as “Lewis and Clark” who, over the course of forty-odd years, not only grew to hate each other but never spoke to each other off-stage throughout the final year of their act. The stubborn Clark, who was not ready for retirement, resented the wiser Lewis for breaking up the act when he opted to leave show business. It is now 1972 and CBS is inviting the team to reunite for a special on the history of comedy, with the pair representing the vaudeville era at its best. Clark is convinced by his nephew Ben to revive one of the old routines one last time. Much of the humour is derived from efforts to get the two cantankerous actors into the same room for a rehearsal, their differences of opinion once they reunite, and their shenanigans on the actual broadcast.

Footloose
July 24 – August 3, 2014
Music by Tom Snow | Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie | Lyrics by Dean Pitchford | Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford | Additional Music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

The Will Rogers Follies
August 21 – August 31, 2014
Book by Peter Stone; Music Composed and Arranged by Cy Coleman; Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green
Original New York Production Directed and Choreographed by Tommy Tune;
Inspired by the words of Will and Betty Rogers

Will Rogers was a unique American who, though he died almost sixty years ago, remains a beloved figure remembered for his humor, his wisdom, and his just plain common sense. At the heart of his populist philosophy was his most famous statement: “I never met a man I didn’t like.” Rogers became the biggest, most popular, and highest paid star of every existing medium of his time–stage, screen, radio, newspapers, and public appearances. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that he was the greatest star this country has ever produced.

LCT Recognizes Actors in Showboat’s DON’T DRINK THE WATER

Showboat’s DON’T DRINK THE WATER Recognized by LCT

Michael Sherman, Mike Dennis & Christine Dye.

Panelists for the League of Cincinnati Theatres (LCT) have recognized lead actors Christine Dye and Mike Dennis from Showboat’s DON’T DRINK THE WATER for their excellent performances.

In this cold-war comedy by Woody Allen, an American tourist and his family are taken for spies in a country behind the Iron Curtain and must be protected by the US ambassador’s bumbling son who is running the embassy.

Panelists praised the performances of Christine Dye and Mike Dennis, as the tourists, Marion and Walter Hollander: they “carried the play into its best moments…Both showed great comic timing in the machine-gun fire dialogue of Woody Allen…Their on-stage chemistry was great and made me feel like I was back home in Jersey.”

Nominations for LCT awards will be determined and announced at the end of the season and winners awarded at the annual LCT gala in the spring.

The League of Cincinnati Theatres was founded in 1999 to strengthen, nurture and promote Cincinnati’s theatre community. LCT provides its member companies and individual members with education, resources and services to enhance the quality and exposure of the theatre community in Cincinnati and increase community awareness, attendance and involvement. More information about the League can be found at www.leagueofcincytheatres.com.
