Saturday, March 29th 12:00 to 3:00pm
Tuesday, April 1st 6:00 to 9:00pm

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
By Tennessee Williams
September 11 – October 5, 2014

Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, rejects the realities of life as her desperate defense of her weak, vulnerable soul. But when she is reduced to living on the charity of her sister, in a seedy New Orleans apartment, Blanche’s confrontation with her brutish brother in law, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness. A classic American drama which ranks as one of the greatest in our theatre. Greg Procaccino, Director

Rehearsals begin: Monday, August 4, 2014
Performance dates: September 11 – October 5, 2014

Requirements: Adult Performers please. MUST HAVE A RESUME listing theatrical experience in order to audition. A headshot/picture is appreciated but not required. Auditionees will be asked to read from the script.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE Characters

  • Blanche Dubois, Not quite a heroine, Blanche is the complicated protagonist of the play. She is a faded Southern belle without a dime left to her name, after generations of mismanagement led to the loss of the family fortune.. Blanche tries to continue being the Southern belle of her youth, but she is too old and has seen too much, and soon her grip on reality begins to slip. She has difficulty understanding the passion in her sister’s marriage and is coolly calculating in her relationship with Mitch – yet barely manages to suppress a latent nymphomania.
  • Stella Kowalski, Blanche’s younger sister, is about twenty-five years old and pregnant with her first child. Stella has made a new life for herself in New Orleans and is madly in love with her husband Stanley – their idyllic relationship is steeped in physical passion. Stella is forthright and unapologetic about the nature of her relationship with her husband, and although she loves her sister, she is pragmatic and refuses to let anything come between her and Stanley.
  • Stanley Kowalski, Stella’s husband, is a man of solid, blue-collar stock – direct, passionate, and often violent. He has no patience for Blanche. He is a controlling and domineering man, demanding subservience from his wife in the belief that his authority is threatened by Blanche’s arrival.
  • Harold “Mitch” Mitchell One of Stanley’s friends. Mitch is as tough and “unrefined” as Stanley. He is an imposing physical specimen, massively built and powerful, but he is also a deeply sensitive and compassionate man. His mother is dying, and this impending loss affects him profoundly. He is attracted to Blanche from the start. Mitch is a fundamentally decent man and seeks only to settle down. But when the truth about Blanche’s history comes to light, he feels swindled by her.
  • Eunice Hubbell is the owner of the apartment building, and Steve’s wife. She is generally helpful, offering Stella and Blanche shelter after Stanley beats Stella. She has a personal understanding of the Kowalskis’ relationship because it mirrors her own.
  • Steve Hubbell is Eunice’s husband, and owner of the apartment building. As one of the poker players, Steve has the final line of the play. It comes as Blanche is carted off to the asylum and Steve coldly deals another hand.
  • Pablo Gonzales is one of the poker players, who punctuates games with Spanish phrases.
  • African American Woman is a non-naturalistic character; it seems that the actor playing this role is in fact playing a number of different Negro women, all minor characters. Emphasizing the non-naturalistic aspect of the character, in the original production of Streetcar, the “Negro Woman” was played by a male actor.
  • A Strange Man (The Doctor) arrives at the end to bring Blanche on her “vacation.” After the Nurse has pinned her, the Doctor succeeds in calming Blanche. She latches onto him, depending, now and always, “on the kindness of strangers.”
  • A Strange Woman (The Nurse) is a brutal and impersonal character, institutional and severe in an almost stylized fashion. She wrestles Blanche to the ground.
  • A Young Collector comes to collect money for the paper. Blanche throws herself at him shamelessly.
  • A Mexican Woman sells flowers for the dead during the powerful scene when Blanche recounts her fall from grace.

The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

AN EVENING WITH PETE ROSE Benefit on March 30

AN EVENING WITH PETE ROSE to Benefit the Incline Theater Project in East Price Hill
Sunday, March 30 at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts

Pete Rose.

Pete Rose.

Get ready for Opening Day in style with a special evening with Western Hills’s favorite son, Pete Rose.

On the eve of Cincinnati’s historic Opening Day, hear classic stories from the Hit King’s career, tales of growing up on the west side – including his connection with the Covedale Center building – and more at “An Evening with Pete Rose – A Benefit Fundraiser for the Incline Theater Project.”

“I am thrilled to death to be back on the West Side at the Covedale Theater where I have memories of going to the cinema as a kid,” Rose said. “Close to West High and Price Hill Chili, the Covedale was the place to be on many nights.”

So it will be on March 30 at 8 p.m. when Rose takes the stage at the Covedale. Attendees will hear Rose speak about his favorite baseball memories, some stories from his days at West Hi and even his thoughts on the 2014 baseball season, just hours before the first pitch of the season. Rose will also take questions from the audience.

“An Evening with Pete Rose” is presented by Driehaus Insurance Group, and Doug and Cathie Ridenour.

Every attendee will receive an autographed copy of the acclaimed 2010 documentary, 4192: The Crowning of the Hit King. Three ticket levels are available:

  • “VIP” tickets – $125 each, includes a seat in the reserved premium section in the first four rows, two drink tickets and admittance to a special pre-event meet-and-greet reception with Pete.
  • “Charlie Hustle” tickets – $80 each, includes two drink tickets and a standard seat in the theater, as well as the autographed DVD.
  • “Value” tickets – $65 each, includes a seat in the back section of the theater, as well as the autographed DVD.

All proceeds from the evening will go toward Cincinnati Landmark Productions’ Incline Theater Project. The proposed 220-seat theater and parking garage in the Incline District in East Price Hill is a $5.6 million project with plans of breaking ground later this spring – pending final fundraising.

Once open, the Incline Theater would be programmed year-round by Cincinnati Landmark Productions to create an estimated 112 “show nights” in the new space, including a subscription season designed to complement the season at the Covedale Center, a short “summer fare” season and one-night concerts, comedy events and cabarets.

“The Incline District is a neighborhood on the rise,” said CLP Executive Artistic Director Tim Perrino. “It’s exactly the place a growing arts organization wants to be.”

CLP has seen first-hand the impact the Covedale Center has made in West Price Hill. Since opening in 2002, the arts center quadrupled its subscribers from 804 the first year to over 3,700 for the current season. Attendance ballooned from 13,990 in the 2002-03 season to over 36,000 (representing 336 zip codes) in the 2012-13 season.

Donor programs, naming rights and sponsorships for the new venue are available. For more information about the Incline Theater Project, visit www.inclinetheater.com or call (513) 241-6550.
