Local Married Mother of Two Debuts Fringe Show About Sex and Christmas Cards

CFF19_Sexmas CardsCINCINNATI, OH – Kate Mock Elliott grew up in Cincinnati. She got married in Cincinnati. She and her husband of ten years are raising their two daughters in Cincinnati. And at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, she will be sharing humorous and explicitly personal details about her marriage and sex life. In front of her parents, Norah and Joe Mock.

The show is called seXmas Cards, and although it touches on sensitive topics like self-pleasure and consent, it is not looking for shock-value. It was inspired by Elliott anxiously wondering how she would explain these complex concepts to her two young daughters—who are currently only three years old and one year old. But as any type-A personality would tell you, it’s never too early to start planning.

At the heart of the show is the desire to challenge the confusion created by avoiding uncomfortable conversations. Confusion like thinking your water broke, when you just had a really good night. Yes, that happened. And yes, it’s in the show.

The one-woman show was written by Kate Mock Elliott and directed by Cincy Fringe favorite Erika Kate MacDonald (Evacuated!, 13 Dead Dreams of “Eugene”).

seXmas Cards is part of the Primary Lineup at the 2019 Cincinnati Fringe Festival.

ABOUT THE PERFORMER
Kate Mock Elliott holds a degree in music, has decades of professional performance experience including a national tour, and masquerades as a regular person with an office job. She is also a married mother of two with a habit of oversharing. After years of hearing, “You should write something,” she is honored to share that “something” at Cincy Fringe. And yes, she is Norah and Joe Mock’s daughter. (Hi, Mom and Dad!)

Magician Cody Clark of Louisville, Ky Returns to Cincy Fringe with New Show

CFF19_Origins of My Magic PosterMagician Cody Clark of Louisville, Ky Returns to Cincy Fringe with His New Show, THE ORIGINS OF MY MAGIC

May 2, 2019 (LOUISVILLE, KY) – Magician/autistic self-advocate Cody Clark is returning to the Cincinnati Fringe Festival to perform his second touring magic show The Origins of My Magic. He will be at the First Lutheran Church Lounge in Over-the-Rhine on 1208 Race St. for eight shows June 1st-15th.

In his newest show, Cody answers the question of where his magic comes from. Rather than coming from sleight of hand moves and arcane secrets, he feels it comes from the people, places, things, and ideas that have fundamentally shaped his life. These include classic country music, Dolly Parton, Mr. Rogers, magic legend/hometown hero Lance Burton, and his family, friends, teachers, and mentors.

Cody is a professional magician and autistic self-advocate from Louisville, KY. His first fringe festival engagement was the 2015 Cincy Fringe, when he performed his flagship show Cody Clark: A Different Way of Thinking, in which he uses his routines to share what it’s like to live with autism. He’s since performed that show at 15 other fringe festivals, small theaters, and schools. He’s had so much fun on the fringe circuit that he created this new show to return to his favorite fringe festivals, which also includes the 2019 Orlando Fringe concluding right before Cincy Fringe. He also has a children’s show themed to railroading called Conductor Cody and in March 2018, his childhood dream of performing with Lance Burton came true at the Louisville Palace, where he was in the cast of Lance Burton & Friends.

Cody’s shows will take place on Sat. June 1st at 6:30 PM, Sun. June 2nd at 4:45 PM, Tue. June 4th at 8:30 PM, Thur. June 6th at 7 PM, Sat. June 8th at 7:45 PM, Sun. June 9th at 4 PM, Tue. June 11th at 7 PM, and Thur. June 13th at 8:30 PM. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.cincyfringe.com , at The Know Theatre, or at the venue doors. Multi-show passes for the entire festival are also available. For more information about Cody, you may go to www.codyclarkmagic.com.

Have you tried online dating? In the South as a progressive woman? It’s brutal. It’s depressing. It’s soul-sucking. She found that writing songs about her experiences, then telling the funny (not at the time usually, but later) stories was virtually therapeutic. Thus this solo show…

A poignant comedy, the show combines original songs, stick figures, and the online dating journey of one progressive woman living in the deep South.  Ten lessons (and one bonus!) underscore her discovery of who she is, what she wants, and that love is her divine right. Featuring songs from her first and recently released CD, The Vicious Hillbilly, she has been described as “part Patty Griffin… part Todd Snider…part Linda Ronstadt…ALL honest, soulful lyrics combining Americana, alt-Country, Blues, and Folk musical styles while exploring life as a progressive hillbilly girl living in the deep south.”

Dawn grew up in the Ozarks amid lots of mountain music, arts, storytelling, beautiful hills and rivers. Drawing from those traditions, her songs are roots-based, autobiographical and each has a comical story gathered from her online dating experiences. She has played small venues in six states for nearly ten years.

With Four Special Performances this June

CINCINNATI, OH – Following critically acclaimed runs in NYC, Hollywood, and Edinburgh, Peter Michael Marino’s interactive SHOW UP KIDS! makes its Cincy Fringe debut June 1 & 2, 8 & 9. This entirely unique, semi-improvised, family show for kids 3-10 years old puts a comedic twist on the traditional kids’ show. When the main attraction doesn’t show up, Pete enlists the kids (and adults) to help create a show from set to sound, plot to props, and costumes to characters. What could possibly go wrong?

Marino’s “Show Up” received a Critic’s Pick at the 2018 Cincy Fringe, and he returns with this junior version as part of the Family Friendly Fringe at Cincy Fringe 2019. Tickets are pay-what-you-can.

★★★★★ “Marino handles the unpredictability of working with children in an improvised environment with great skill and grace, putting on a fantastic performance which my children were talking about long after the show.” – Backstage on the Fringe

“Fantastic fun! A one-man whirling dervish of energy, comic timing, physical agility, and out and out hilarity. The kids were absolutely mesmerized!” – The Front Row Center

“This show is not like any other show. Usually, the kids are just watching things happen, but here, kids are actually part of the show. Pete definitely has a superpower!”- Kids News NYC

All-New Hilarious Tall Tales and Songs
at the 2019 Cincinnati Fringe Festival

(CINCINNATI, OHIO)  The following is NOT a typo: 90 Lies an Hour is the 4th Show in Paul Strickland’s Trailer-Park Tall-Tale Trilogy. And it’s coming to the Cincinnati Fringe this June.

Paul Strickland’s Ain’t True and Uncle False live in Big-Fib Trailer-Park cul-de-sac, which is a trailer-park in the shape of a cul-de-sac in a town called Big-Fib. “It’s a small community way down south… just off the coast of “Factual.” In fact, if you leave “Factual” and head due south you’ll pass “Big-Fib” on your way to “Bald-Faced.” Obviously, if you get to “Bald-Faced”… you’ve gone too far.”

90 Lies an Hour is a hilarious and heartfelt collection of stories and songs never heard outside of the Trailer-Park until now.

ABOUT THE PERFORMER
Paul is a local creator who actually moved to Cincinnati because of this city’s amazing creative opportunities – specifically, the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, where he has been creating hit new shows for the last six years.

Paul’s Fringe shows have sold out every year that he has performed at Cincy Fringe. Past shows: ExTrashVaganza! (2018), Balls of Yarns (2017), My Left Teeth (2016), Tales Too Tall for Trailers (2015), Papa Squat (2014), and Ain’t True & Uncle False (2013).

He tours his work professionally across the U.S. and Canada.

“… the best tall-tales you can hear without actually having to risk a stabbing in the back of a boxcar.” – Edmonton Vue Weekly

THIS PAST YEAR
This has been a big year for Paul:

  • He performed Off-Broadway with Erika Kate MacDonald in their award-winning shadow puppet horror play 13 Dead Dreams of “Eugene.”
  • His solo show Balls of Yarns was held over at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, the largest Fringe in North America.
  • He was invited to tell a story at the prestigious National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
