Brookville Community Theatre
April 19-29
[Brookville]

Directed by Jen Bell

Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress, Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town. A battle of cons ensues that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end!

Brookville Community Theatre
Feb. 15-25
[Brookville]

Directed by Saul Caplan
Produced by Jen Bell

Cast: Gayle Smith as Annie, Dave Williamson as Hector, Andrew Mitakides as Dillard, Rebecca Henry as Holly, Ian Manuel as Prince & Don Cordes as Doc

Annie Nations, an indomitable Appalachian widow of 79, lives on her mountain farm with the acerbic ghost of her husband Hector. Her tranquility is threatened by a brash real estate developer who wants to turn her land into a vacation resort and by concern over her son Dillard, a country singer who has come home with two stranded children because his wife has run away. Annie’s battle to decide her future takes her through some funny, touching and magical flashbacks to her life with Hector. Played on Broadway by Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, this couple offers a staunchly affirmative tribute to country folk.

Auditions Announced for FOXFIRE at Brookville Community Theatre

BVCT_logoAuditions are Wed/Thursday December 27/28. 7pm at the theatre.
Production dates are Thurs-Sunday, Feb 15-15/22-25.

FOXFIRE was a Tony-nominated hit of the 1982-83 Broadway season and is a look at life in the mountains of NE Georgia. The main story revolves around Annie and Hector Nations, their son Dillard, and the decision to leave or to stay on the mountain that the family has called home for 3 generations. Although it is not a traditional musical, live music in the play is an important production element.

The roles of Annie and Hector have been cast.
We are looking to fill the following roles:

  • Dillard Nations – 30-40 year old male. Semi-successful country musician. MUST be able to sing and play acoustic bluegrass guitar. Ability to act would be nice, too.
  • Prince Carpenter – 30-40 real estate salesman. Not slimy or underhanded, but persistent and profit-motivated. Open to non-traditional casting. Ability to play a bluegrass instrument is a plus.
  • Holly Burrell – early to 20s. Mountain girl who has gone off to college and is now back to teach in the local school. Open to non-traditional casting. Ability to play a bluegrass instrument is a plus.
  • The Nameless Doctor – 50+ (probably). Kindly but gruff local doctor. Kind of a cross between “House”, “Marcus Welby”, and “Floyd the Barber”. Ability to play a bluegrass instrument is a plus.
  • Also looking for a few instrumentalists to be part of Dillard’s back-up group. NO ACTING REQUIRED.

Please bring a resume, if you have one, and a list of ALL conflicts between Jan. 2-Feb 25 (including weekends).

Nov. 9-19
Brookville

Directed by Sherron Henry

Cast: Joyce Luther as Julia, James Nelson as Visitor, Cathy Rarick as Beth, Brad Rarick as Paul, Kerry Simpson as Rosemary, Larry Lindstrom as Father John, Kayla Newkirk as Melissa, Luke Cramer as Matthew & Don Cordes as Bernie

Julia Dowling has an unexpected visitor who intends to escort her off to the afterlife.  Infusing comedy into the classic Death Takes a Holiday, The Christmas Spirit is set in contemporary Long Island.  Julia persuades Death to give her one more day to enjoy Christmas and invites him to be her guest at a festive party.  The next day the house fills with bickering relatives, friends, the local priest – and Death, masquerading as a human, singing carols and drinking egg nog.  Moments of high farce, drama and even romance arise as bright holiday fantasies collide with a not-so-merry reality.  Winner of the 2002 Florida Repertory Theatre Congress of Jewelers Play Series.
