Mariemont Players presents SEEING STARS IN DIXIE, a sassy Southern comedy by Ron Osborn, at the Walton Creek Theater, 4101 Walton Creek Road (just East of Mariemont), July 11th through July 27th, 2014.

Twists, turns and revelations lead Clemmie to trade a moment of fame for love and the chance to impact the lives of people dear to her.
SEEING STARS IN DIXIE is directed by Norma Niinemets, produced by Norma and Tom Niinemets, and features Ann Baker as Tootie,  Merritt Beischel as JoBeth, Sue Ann Stein as Marjorie, Arny Stoller as Glease and Anne Wrider as Clemmie, and features Chris Cullen in a cameo appearance and Jeffrey Spadafore as the pre-show announcer.
Performances will be at 8:00pm on July 11th, July 12th, July 18th, July 19th and July 25th; at 2:00pm on July 13th and July 27th; at 7:30pm on July 17th and July 24th; at 2:00pm and 7:00pm on July 20th; and at 3:00pm & 8:00pm on July 26th.

ETC_new_logo_bannerEnsemble Theatre Cincinntai is happy to announce the final show as part of its exciting 2014-2015 Season, which already includes an impressive line up of leading contemporary titles. We will present the regional premiere of the critically acclaimed Detroit ’67 (by Dominique Morisseau), which earned rave reviews and won the 2014 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History. The first in a three-play cycle about Ms. Morisseau’s hometown, Detroit, the play explores an explosive and decisive moment in a great American city.

The jury panel for the Kennedy Prize wrote that they were “completely drawn into the world of Detroit ’67, whose compelling characters struggle with racial tension and economic instability…Detroit ’67 is a work grounded in historical understanding that also comments meaningfully on the pressing issues of our day.” A top emerging American playwright, Ms. Morisseau has been compared to August Wilson, Lorraine Hansberry, and Zora Neale Hurston.

REGIONAL PREMIERE
Detroit ’67
by Dominique Morisseau
March 18-April 5, 2015

Winner of the 2014 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History
It’s 1967 in Detroit. When their parents died, Chelle and Lank inherited their childhood home. To make ends meet the siblings host “basement parties,” spinning the newest records to come out of Motown, a risky business as police crack down on after-hours joints in black neighborhoods. Always at odds, they fight over the future of the family trade. But when a mysterious white woman finds her way into their care and a string of raids increases police brutality around the city, the siblings become divided over much more than business. Suddenly, they find themselves caught in the middle of the ’67 riots. Detroit ’67 is a tense, entertaining portrayal of the hazards of idealism at the epicenter of a riot.

LCT Celebrates Season Winners

LCT_VWinners of the LCT Awards were announced last night at the League of Cincinnati Theatre’s Awards Party. The theme this year it was Extended Happy Hour, well received by the theatre makers, who enjoyed the focus on fellowship of this industry celebration.

There were a lot of things to be happy for, as theatre representatives and individuals were called to share throughout the night. Costume nominee Ronnie Chamberlain, new this year to Northern Kentucky University, shared how she and her husband chose Cincinnati as a theatre community—over Chicago and other cities—for its vibrant art scene, and as a place to raise a family and actually own a house.
