PIPELINE and PHOTOGRAPH 51 Cancelled at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati

ETC_new_logo_bannerAs the devastating global pandemic continues to unfurl and impact communities near and far, ETC’s leadership and staff have been charting a responsible, viable way forward for when the curtain will rise again. In the meantime, we have adapted many of our programs to share digitally and stay connected with our audiences and we hope you’ll visit us online right now.

In March, we shared our intention to reopen Pipeline later this spring and present Photograph 51 shortly thereafter; we also announced the cancellation of 20th Century Blues. Like many of our arts peers, ETC has had to make extraordinarily challenging choices in response to this rapidly evolving crisis. After thorough consideration, we have made the heart-wrenching decision to cancel the remainder of our 2019-2020 Season and to put our efforts into rebuilding a strong, meaningful season for our audiences and artists for the fall. It remains our hope, though, to share one or more of these shows someday with you if possible.

Your Unused Ticket Options
Below are your options as a current ticket holder. For your convenience, you may complete quick online instructions for how to handle your unused tickets. Alternatively, you may contact our box office and leave us a message; we will return your call within 24-48 hours.

Online Instructions

Call Box Office: 513.421-3555 M-F, 10am-5pm

Convert your ticket(s) into a fully tax-deductible donation
Donate the cost of your ticket(s) in place of requesting a refund. Your generosity will help to ensure ETC’s future by offsetting some of the lost revenue incurred from having to cancel more than a third of our season. ETC will, of course, honor any refund requests.

Credit the cost of your ticket(s) to your account
This credit may be applied towards any future ticket or subscription package. This will help us remain financially stable as we resiliently plan for another compelling season.

Consider a subscription, gift voucher, or contribution
It’s admittedly awkward to ask for your help at the very time we can’t actually fulfill our mission, but such is the tenuous predicament in which we find ourselves. For anyone financially able to, we humbly request you subscribe for next season, purchase gift vouchers, and/or make a tax-deductible gift. If ever there were a time to subscribe, renew your donation, or make your first contribution, now is that time and truly anything helps.

Join us online
We invite you to participate in digitally-adapted free programs, such as: our weekly Meet the Artists live series where guests answer your questions on-air; our crowd-sourced Prelude-at-a-Distance, a choose your own adventure-style script and performance; and weekly audition tips, plus much, much more!

With your help, ETC will emerge from these challenges to become stronger than ever. All of us at the theatre—staff, board, artists, and volunteers—appreciate you immensely. Thank you for considering our requests. We wish you and your loved ones good health.

We hope to add this production to a future season and most importantly, hope you will he join us when we do.

Thank you for your understanding and please watch our website as well as, social media accounts for more updates in the coming months.

ACT/OCTA Festival Scheduled for June 18th-20th Going Virtual

ACT_purple

ACT of Greater Cincinnati.

Dear ACT Members,

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the safety of our members, and the financial well-being of our organization, ACT-Cincinnati has made the difficult decision to move this year’s ACT/OCTA Festival scheduled for June 18th-20th to a virtual event.

This was put to a vote of the ACT-Cincinnati member theaters, and the result was 14-0 in favor of the change with one group abstaining and two groups not responding.

Unfortunately, this means no excerpts will be held. The ACT-Executive Board along with the support of the Long-Range Judging Committee will host the awards online starting at 7 PM EST on Saturday, June 20th.

Details will be forthcoming, but we still encourage members to dress up in the comfort of their own homes, tune in, share photos to social media, and celebrate the season. It will be different, for sure, but the show will go on in a way that we can maintain the safety of everyone involved.

Please stay safe, stay healthy, and we look forward to when we come together as a theater community again.

Sincerely,

Dan Maloney, President of ACT-Cincinnati
Amanda Emmons Shumate – 1st VP of ACT-Cincinnati/Conference Chair

PSOPHONIA Dance Company & AURA Contemporary Ensemble Present COLONY

CFF20_COLONY-IMAGE 3An exploration of our symbiotic relationship with honeybees through music and dance

Cincy Fringe Festival: A Fringe Festival for the Social Distancing Age
May 29 – June 13, 2020
Tickets: An All-Access Pass www.cincyfringe.com

(Houston, TX) PSOPHONIA Dance Company is excited to return to 2020 Cincy Fringe Festival as part of the Digital Primary Lineup. It has been eight years since PDC last appeared in the Cincy Fringe and while we had hoped to present a live program in Cincinnati, we are thrilled to virtually share our most recent collaboration, COLONY. Created in collaboration with the University of Houston’s AURA Contemporary Ensemble, COLONY explores our symbiotic relationship with honeybees through music and dance.

Humans and honeybees have an interdependent relationship – if bees didn’t exist, neither would we. These tiny creatures help cultivate one-third of our global food supply but are dying at an unprecedented rate. Through a thoroughly intertwined performance of music and dance, COLONY seeks to inspire appreciation, wonderment, support, caring and protection for honeybees.

COLONY marks the fourth collaboration between PSOPHONIA and AURA and their second evening length work. One of the primary goals behind these collaborations has been to cultivate a substantive integration of music and dance. Through the process of integrating their disciplines, the ensembles have created their own symbiotic relationship, one that continues to deepen with each subsequent collaboration.

A year in the making, COLONY began with an interest in creating a project that would involve the music of Stacy Garrop, who was to be in residence at the University of Houston in Spring 2019. Stacy’s work Postcards from Wyoming captured Torres’s imagination, conjuring up images of bees actively moving and shifting within a hive. Building on this concept, the ensembles designed this multidisciplinary program that draws audiences into the imperiled world of honeybees.

The partnership between PSOPHONIA and AURA artistically stretched its directors and performers, which has been extremely inspiring and rewarding. Through Cincy Fringe Streaming platform, PDC and AURA are pleased to have another opportunity to share COLONY with audiences.

Human Race Playreading Goes Virtual with Local Playwright and Benefits The Foodbank

HRTC_LOOK INTO MY EYES Cast

Top row: Lauren Kampman, Saul Caplan (Director) & Libby Holley Scancarello. Middle row: Caitlin Larsen, Barbara Dirr & Jeff Sams. Mottom row: Scott Stoney, Jeremy Todd Farley, & Robb Willoughby (Playwright).

While the COVID-19 pandemic may have closed down live performances, The Human Race has not let it stop them from presenting their Playreading Series – this time as a virtual reading of a new play by Yellow Springs playwright Robb Willoughby called Look Into My Eyes. This streaming reading will benefit The Foodbank, a vital organization solving hunger in the Miami Valley – especially now!

“We have been rehearsing on Zoom for our typical 11 hours,” reported Human Race Artistic Director Kevin Moore.  “A director, a playwright and seven actors working very hard to communicate this funny and sweet story in the “Brady Bunch” little boxes format.  It’s not easy.  We miss the live interaction and the reaction of an audience which always fuels a performance.  But we all felt it was necessary to keep the creative work flowing, even during these challenging times.  And since we had to cancel several of our Pay What You Can performances which have supported The Foodbank for decades,” continued Moore, “it seemed right to support them while they strive to meet the additional demand this pandemic has caused.”

The play centers around two unique siblings.  Billie can read people’s futures – has been doing it for years.  Her brother, Lonnie, can hear people’s thoughts – and it is driving him crazy.  But when a dangerous, dark cloud of a person comes in for a tarot reading, the sister/brother team must join forces to warn the innocent and expose the guilty.  The plot thickens, zany characters run amuck, and mystery abounds.  Will they save the day in time?  Find out for yourself.

Directed by Saul Caplan, the cast includes Human Race Resident Artists Caitlin Larsen and Scott Stoney, Barbara Dirr, Libby Holley Scancarello, Jeff Sams, Lauren Kampman and Jeremy Todd Farley.

The performance will be streamed starting at 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, and ending on Wednesday, May 20th at 8:00 PM, so you can view at your leisure. Tickets are available at DaytonLive by calling 937-228-3630, or visit The Human Race website at www.humanracetheatre.org  Tickets start at $10, with all proceeds going to The Foodbank.

This program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Pat and David Diven, Scott Stoney and Kevin Moore, and the Miriam Rosenthal Foundation for the Arts.
