Immerse yourself in the extraordinary power and grace of its music and dance – beloved by fans of all ages. Fall in love with the magic of Riverdance all over again.

The critically acclaimed 25th Anniversary North American Tour was shut down in March 2020 during a sold-out return engagement at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Riverdance celebrated a return to the stage in the United Kingdom, where the iconic show played to sold-out audiences in 27 cities across the country. Then followed its debut at Expo 2020 Dubai with a special production of Riverdance presenting a multi-cultural experience that included artists from the Middle East region. A highlight of the four-week run was the Riverdance performance at Expo 2020 Dubai’s USA Pavilion for its Thanksgiving Day celebrations.

Riverdance – The Animated Adventure was released on Netflix in the United States on January 14, 2022, where it swiftly landed a spot on the streamer’s Global Top 10 list. With an original score by Grammy Award-winning composer Bill Whelan, the animated musical comedy features the incredible craft and skill of the Riverdance troupe by utilizing motion capture of their performances to create the animated dancing in the film. Tour lead dancers Maggie Darlington and Anna Mai Fitzpatrick and executive producer/director Padraic Moyles were involved with the dance production for the film, while tour musicians Mark Alfred and Tara Howley play on the film score.

Riverdance began its journey as the interval act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, produced for television by Moya Doherty. This electrifying and innovative seven-minute dance piece was then developed into a full-length stage show by producer Moya Doherty, composer Bill Whelan, and director John McColgan. With its fusion of Irish and international music and dance, the show broke all box office records during its world première run in Dublin in early 1995. When the show transferred to London, the reaction was unprecedented. There followed a hugely successful tour starting in New York in March 1996, where eight sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall heralded the start of more than two decades of touring by Riverdance companies throughout North America. Since its inception, Riverdance has packed theaters throughout North America, Oceania, Asia, Europe, South Africa, and South America.

Riverdance – 25th Anniversary Show has been designed by lead designer Peter Canning, featuring sets by Alan Farquharson, lighting by Andrew Voller, video by Cosmo AV, costumes by Joan Bergin, and sound by Michael O’Gorman.

  • Saturday, April 1 @ 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company Kicks Off its 2022-2023 Season with KING LEAR

CSC_King Lear1Cincinnati, September 8, 2022 – Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s 2022-2023 season premieres with Shakespeare’s powerful tragedy King Lear, directed by Producing Artistic Director Brian Isaac Phillips, who is celebrating his 20th anniversary with the company. King Lear features Jim Hopkins as the titular patriarch who divides his kingdom between three daughters played by Candice Handy, Kelly Mengelkoch, and Miranda McGee. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s 2022-2023 Season is generously presented by The Otto M. Budig Family Foundation and Rosemary and Mark Schlachter.

CSC’s production of King Lear boasts a modern twist set in contemporary London. Costumes of sleek, tailored suits and a modern architectural set designed by Rainy Edwards and Justen N. Locke, respectively, not only give a subtle nod to HBO’s hit drama “Succession” but emphasizes the timelessness of this Shakespearean tragedy.

Lear claims “nothing will come of nothing,” but Shakespeare’s tragedy reveals madness will come in the face of chaotic plights. In contemporary Europe, a familial dynasty divides when an aging patriarch splits his estate between two wicked daughters and casts out the third – the only one who truly loves him. As Lear and the status quo devolve into madness, the whole family faces the brutal truth of family dynamics, loyalty, and the existence of justice.

Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips, chose for the 2022-2023 Season to open with this Shakespeare play that has not be seen on the stage at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company for almost 15 years! Brian shares, “in Shakespeare’s day when the plague shut down theaters, Shakespeare wrote King Lear. Well, a plague shut down our theater and we are going to come back stronger than ever by staging King Lear!”

CSC_King Lear2The season also marks a special anniversary for CSC as they celebrate Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips in his 20th season of artistic direction, vision, and leadership. Among his many accomplishments as the artistic leader of CSC, Phillips guided the company’s completion of Shakespeare’s 38-play canon, making Cincinnati Shakespeare Company one of the first five theaters to reach this milestone. Former Managing Director Maddie Regan said, “Brian’s commitment to looking at Shakespeare and the Classics in fresh new ways has made CSC a valued part of the lives of thousands of Cincinnatians over the past 20 years. His passion for excellence on the mainstage is only matched by his devotion CSC’s education program. Brian’s largest contribution to the region is adding a gem to the Queen City’s crown through the completion of The Otto M. Budig Theater, a $17MM project in the heart of our City.” Brian’s leadership of CSC has made the company a vibrant addition to the classical corridor of the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and the overall cultural fabric of Cincinnati.
