APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH Runs Jan. 31-Feb. 10

Cedarville University
Jan. 31-Feb. 10
[Cedarville]

One of Agatha Christie’s most suspenseful plays, the story begins with a group of tourists visiting the ancient town of Petra in Jordan. Set during the 1940s, the world is suffering from the effects of the War, when suddenly danger, fear, and murder intrude upon their lives much more closely than any of them imagined. As they settle into a grand and luxurious hotel, mysterious things begin to occur, and strange characters seem to be lurking everywhere. When someone is murdered, it seems obvious that the culprit must be among the group of travelers. Could the murderer be among the locals who work in the hotel? This play became one of the most enduring and popular stories ever written by Christie, as it pulls the audiences into a world of intrigue, suspense, and danger in an exotic and unfamiliar land.

WOMEN PLAYING HAMLET Runs Feb. 15-23

vp_women playing hamlet logoWOMEN PLAYING HAMLET
Village Players
Feb. 15-23
[Fort Thomas]

Directed by Steve Phelan

Cast: Elizabeth Beatty as Jessica (plays Hamlet); Cat Cook as acting coach, humanities professor, and Ghost; Patricia Mullins as Starbucks barrista, priest, bicycle messenger, Jessica’s niece, barfly, Home Shopping Network model, and soap opera starlet; and Heather Abbott as Lord Derby, Jessica’s mother, male psychiatrist, bartender, Home Shopping Network hostess, soap opera star, gravedigger, and stage manager.

Being cast as Hamlet in a New York production sends Jessica into an existential tailspin. It doesn’t help that her acting coach is borderline abusive, or that every Starbucks barista with an MFA tells her she’s too young for the role. Or that she somehow managed to make Sir Patrick Stewart her nemesis. How can she figure out “to be or not to be,” when she can’t even figure out herself? Rip-roaring fun for Shakespeare fans and haters alike.
