A happy housewife named Marsha, hopelessly addicted to reading murder mysteries, overhears her loving husband discussing her upcoming birthday surprise with an interior decorator. To her ears, though, it sounds like they are planning to murder her! With the assistance of her next-door neighbor, she tries to turn the tables on them with a poisoned potion. When her own mother shows up for her birthday a day early, Marsha thinks she is in on the diabolical scheme. When her maid’s date, a policeman, shows up to take the maid out, Marsha think he is on to her poisoning attempt. Well, finally, just when you would think all this would be cleared up, Marsha’s intended victims discover what she has supposed, and decide to teach her a lesson by actually pretending to be murderers. This is a terrific show for family audiences who like their comedy broad, fast, and nonstop.

Considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old-world elegance. Based on a play that inspired the beloved film You’ve Got Mail, the musical shares an enemies-to-lovers story about two shop clerks who normally don’t get along — until they begin an anonymous love letter exchange after they respond to a lonely-hearts ad in the newspaper.

TROY_See How They Run logoSEE HOW THEY RUN
Troy Civic Theatre
Sept. 30-Oct. 9
[Troy]

Directed by Michael Schumacher

Cast: Tina Green as Ida, Janet Wasson as Ms Skillon, Carlos Baez Jr as Rev. Lionel Toop, Abby Kinnebrew Smith as Penelope Toop, Doug Gibbons as Corp. Clive Winton, Derek Dunavent as The Intruder, Brian Laughlin as The Bishop of Lax, John Lawson as Rev. Arthur Humphrey, Sam Jacobi as Sergeant Towers & Macy O’Brien as Choir Boy

This English farce is set shortly after the end of World War II in the living room of the vicarage belonging to Penelope Topp, in the fictitious village Merton-cum-Middlewick. Penelope is an American former actress and now wife of the local vicar, the Rev. Lionel Toop. When the vicar leaves for the night, an old friend of Penelope’s, Lance-Corporal Clive Winton, stops by on a quick visit. To dodge army regulations while out on the town, he changes from his uniform into Lionel’s second-best suit, complete with a clerical dog-collar. Then Lionel, arriving back, is knocked silly by a Russian escaped from the local Army base, who takes the vicar’s clothes as a disguise. Add to the confusion a feisty cockney maid, the local busybody getting drunk for the first time, and both Penelope’s uncle, the Bishop of Lax, and Aurther Humphrey, a visiting vicar, unexpectedly showing up early. Chaos quickly ensues, culminating in a cycle of running figures and mistaken identities.
