ARCADIA Runs Feb. 3-12

SU_ArcadiaARCADIA
Wright State University
Feb. 3-12
Creative Arts Center, Festival Playhouse [Dayton]

Directed by Marya Spring Cordes, Assoc Chair, School of Fine and Performing Arts, WSU

This brilliant drama by one of our greatest living playwrights leaps artfully between the past (1809) and the present, where order and chaos, certainty and confusion, genius and unexpressed passion intertwine and collide in what one critic called “Tom Stoppard’s richest, most ravishing comedy to date.” Arcadia explores the possibilities life offers as we make seemingly minor, but irreversible, choices.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Runs Feb. 3-5

TCP_Play that Goes WrongTHE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG
Tree County Players
Feb. 3-5
[Greensburg, Ind]

Directed by Jeff Lincourt

Cast: Katy Prairie as Annie, Stage Manager, Devin Morgan as Trevor, Light and Sound Tech, Erich Davies as Chris (Inspector Carter), Brady Domingo as Jonathan (Charles Haversham), Matt Boersma as Robert (Thomas Colleymoore), Corden Simmonds as Dennis (Perkins), Evan Straber as Max (Cecil Haversham) & Morgan Kramer as Sandra (Florence Colleymoore)

“Break a leg!” takes on a whole new meaning for a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines, and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, all mayhem, this 1920s whodunit is disastrously delightful.

Let your passions burn as Opera d’arte presents the tragic, but heroic love story between the Queen of Carthage and the hero of Troy. Henry Purcell’s only true opera, Baroque masterpiece Dido and Aeneas, is presented in a double bill with Giacomo Puccini’s raucous comedy, Gianni Schicchi, where we see a family passionately struggling to gain the inheritance of a dead relative, only to be outwitted by Gianni, who has his own passionate reasons to turn the tables! There is truly something for every opera lover in this double bill.
