Fringe Festival Update: Sell-Outs, Schedule Changes and Segway Accidents

THE SELL-OUTS

Zehra Fazal and Kevin Thornton continue to sell out performances at the 2011 Fringe Festival.

The second performance on Sunday of Kevin’s I LOVE YOU (WE’RE FUCKED) also SOLD OUT. Ticket availability, for the remaining shows, is limited.

  • Tue, June 7 at 9:15pm
  • Thu, June 9 at 8:15pm
  • Sat, June 11 at 9pm

Tuesday’s final performance of HEADSCARF AND THE ANGRY BITCH has already SOLD OUT. There will be limited “standing-room only” tickets available at the door.

THE SCHEDULE CHANGES

I’m sorry to report that, due to a death in the family, of one of the artists, Thursday’s performance of TRANSFRINGEMENT: CIRCUS MOJO has been cancelled. If you have tickets to this performance, please call the Know Box Office at 513-300-5669. The final performance on Saturday will go on as planned. I have updated my 2011 Fringe Festival grid. You can download it here.

Also, the 22.5 Hour Play Project scheduled as Tuesday’s night event at the Fringe Bar series has been replaced with an improv jam.

THE SEGWAY ACCIDENT

After locking up following Saturday’s Fringe Festivities at the Know, Producing Artistic Director Eric Vosmeier was involved in an accident on his way home.  I was told that a driver exited a parking lot or garage at a high speed without checking for sidewalk traffic. Eric suffered two broken arms, but he is home and doing as well as can be expected. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Fringe Festival News

During Thursday night’s Channel Fringe Hard-Hitting Action News Update, anchor Sadie Bowman reported that opening night attendance was up 60% over last year. Of the six performances that I’ve attended on the first two nights, no audience has been smaller than 30 people, and the majority of attendees have been returning Fringe-ers.

If you haven’t been to a Fringe performance yet, the Festival has announced a new, weeknight only pass option called the “One Night Stand.” For $35 the pass entitles you to as many performances you can attended in one night (two-three shows depending on the scheduling) and a drink at the Know Theatre bar.

One schedule update has been announced. The run time for  TO AND FRO AND UP AND DOWN from Kleesattel Productions is now set at 45 minutes. After a quick glance at the remaining performances, I don’t believe it will cause any problems for upcoming dates. Unfortunately, last night it did present a problem as a large percentage of the audience were committed to 9pm performances at other venues and were forced to leave the performance early. I was one of those people and my apologies to the cast.

I will update my Fringe schedule grid later today and post to my FaceBook fan page, Rob Bucher’s Behind the Curtain Cincinnati and my twitter account (@BTCincyRob ) when it (and last night’s reviews) are available.
