THRILLS ON WHEELS Outdoor Mobile Cinema to be Featured as Part of The Fitton Center’s Ongoing Innovative Outdoor Community Programming

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio continues its innovative outdoor programming this fall, announcing a new partnership with the Reels on Wheels outdoor mobile cinema, with a screening event on the North Lawn of the Fitton Center, next Saturday October 10, with the first screening session will be at 7:30 pm and second at 8:30 pm.

After a successful summer of safe, family-friendly indie films, the Cindependent Film Festival announces a new film line-up just in time for a spooky October: Thrills on Wheels is a fun spin on the organization’s COVID-response project, Reels on Wheels. The program features five eerie short films from local, national, and international filmmakers. Thrills on Wheels events are free, and Cindependent Film Festival.

The event is family friendly, but parents and guardians are advised that some titles are rated PG. Tickets are FREE, however reservations for the one-hour screening blocks must be made online at: www.cindependentfilmfest.org. Screenings will be open to multiple households at a time, with social distancing markers set up for safe seating. Guests should bring their own chairs and wear masks when arriving.

The event is presented in association with the Hamilton Parks Conservancy, Operation Pumpkin and the Historic Hamilton Log Cabin. The Log Cabin will be open have free entry from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the screenings are a part of the events happening all over downtown Hamilton as part Operation Pumpkin’s abridged activities this year.

“We love sharing movie experiences,” Cindependent Executive Director Allyson West states. “Cindependent always goes above and beyond when connecting with audiences, and ‘Thrills on Wheels’ is no exception. Costumes are encouraged, the cinema is going to be decked out with ghoulish decor, and the films have been curated specifically to give viewers goosebumps up the back of their necks.”

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.

Fall Classes and Workshops at Acting Up

ACTUP-logoActing Up is excited to offer 6-week small group fall classes and a high school workshop beginning October 5, 2020!  While we are disappointed we cannot produce our usual fall musical due to the on-going restrictions surrounding COVID-19, we are thrilled to offer the opportunity for young actors to continue to hone their performance skills during this time!

We will be offering Acting classes for grades 2-12 (grouped by grade level), an Improv class for grades 6-12, and a high school workshop production of “Freaky Friday”!  All classes will be held at our facility in Mason.  Details for each individual class can be found in the EventBrite link for your actor’s grade level.  Spots are extremely limited, and several classes are already SOLD OUT, but we do have a few remaining spots in our Acting Class for grades 8-12 and our high school workshop!

All registered participants will receive a detailed guide of Acting Up’s COVID-19 policies and protocols prior to the start of classes, as well as a medical/liability release form that must be completed for the first class.  Actors registered for the “Freaky Friday” workshop will receive a separate email with (optional) audition information.

Seven Year Old Boy Needed for Virtual Play Shoot at Caesar’s Ford Theatre

DESCRIPTION: Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Inc will be producing three 8 to 10-minute virtual plays about the history of Ohio. The first play is an excerpt from the outdoor drama Caesar’s Redemption by Kane Stratton.

The play recounts the life of Caesar, an escaped African slave, who was adopted by the Shawnee Nation in the late 1700s (Caesar’s Creek is named in his honor). The role is for a 7-year-old boy (plus or minus one year) who is Caucasian and has the ability to run. (A parent or guardian will need to be present during filming)

LOCATION: One scene will be filmed at Caesars Ford Park in Xenia, Ohio (site of the former outdoor drama Blue Jacket) and another scene at George Rogers Clark Park in Springfield, Ohio.

DATES: October 9th and 10th, 2020

TIME: TBD

CATCH ME IF YOU CANON Scavenger Hunt Available Through Sept. 25 from Cincy Shakes

CSC_CatchMeCanon LogoIntroducing CATCH ME IF YOU CANON, Cincinnati Shakespeare’s interactive, outdoor scavenger hunt adventure!

What are you hunting? All the plays in Shakespeare’s canon!

Follow hints to find QR Codes hidden around downtown in shop windows, murals, and other Cincy landmarks. Each code links to a short video of a snippet of a Shakespeare play, performed by some of your favorite CSC ensemble members!

It is designed to be completely walkable, take about an hour to complete, and require nothing more than your phone and some brainpower. The hunt remain active all week, so this can be completed on your own schedule and at your own pace. Each person/team that competes the hunt will be entered into a drawing to win exciting CSC prizes! Enjoy this fun and engaging activity for family and friends that gets you outside exploring some of Cincy’s greatest spots- and delivers the canon like you’ve never seen it before!

BALLET IN THE PARK with Cincinnati Ballet on Sept. 25-27

CB_Ballet in the Park logoJoin the Cincinnati Ballet for a free (or pay what you wish), socially distanced production at the P&G Pavilion at Sawyer Point on Sept. 25-27.

This program will feature the return of our dancers with outdoor performances showcasing selections of favorite solos and pas de deux from our rich repertoire as well as contributions from members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Opera.

Performances are:

  • Fri, Sept. 25 at 7:30pm
  • Sat, Sept. 26 at 2pm & 7:30pm
  • Sun, Sept. 27 at 1pm
