OPEN AIR CABARETS Coming to the Warsaw Federal Incline Theatre Aug. 28-Oct. 10

WFIT_Open Air CabaretsThe shows must go on, safely.

Cincinnati Landmark Productions announces today the ‘Open Air Cabarets at the Incline,’ a series of benefit performances in support of the venerable west side non-profit arts group. All performances will take place on the top deck of the parking garage at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater, with safety in mind.

The series launches on Friday, August 28 and will run Fridays and Saturdays for multiple weekends. All shows will begin at 8pm and last no longer than 90 minutes.

Each audience pod comes with a table and 4 seats. Tables will be sold each night for $80 and will be spaced over 12’ apart on the parking deck, all with great views of a temporary stage next to the building. The musicians and singers will be a collection of Landmark Productions cast favorites and friends, performing songs from hit shows or pop tunes through the years.

Tables are on sale now through the CLP Box Office. Call (513) 241-6550 Monday through Friday from 11am to 5pm. Advance sales are highly encouraged.

Executive Artistic Director Tim Perrino promises a night of needed fun.

“Whether you know us from our 23 years at the Showboat, 19 years at the Covedale or 39 years of Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre – you know that CLP brings the most exciting talent to our stages,” Perrino said. “Up-and-comers, big local names and even stars from National Tours and Broadway will be performing at the ‘Open Air Cabaret’ at the Incline. They’re devoting their time and talent to support our theaters during the crisis. Join them in their support while you enjoy their dazzling performances outdoors at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater.”

All proceed from the events will go toward Landmark Productions operational costs. Due to mandated performance cancellations, the organization estimates a $1.5 million drop in revenue. But facility and overhead fixed costs remain during this trying time. Table sales for the Open Air Cabarets and other important fundraising initiatives will allow the organization to stay financially solvent, until normal operations can resume.

High School Opera Company Fills the Air with Classical Sound in Outdoor, Socially Distant Performances

CYAPP_Outside1Opera lovers can see performances outdoors August 6th and August 7th

Each year 20 or so exceedingly talented high school vocalists audition and are selected for Cincinnati’s Young Artist Preparatory Program (YAPP).  YAPP  is one of only a handful of High School Opera Programs in the United States.  The company traditionally concludes its training with an Opera Showcase in June.  That could not happen this year.  “But we just could not give up,”  said Lincoln Chapman, the group’s Director.  “These kids have worked too hard, and their sound is too beautiful.”  So, Lincoln, with the support of Karl Resnick and the Musical Arts Center, YAPP’s home conservatory, just kept working.  “We met by Zoom for months. Once we could meet again, and it was allowed, we began meeting outside. We feel incredibly lucky to have found two spaces where we can perform in a responsible and socially distant way for both performers and audience alike.”

Thanks to some innovative choreography and large, outdoor stages, YAPP will present works like Libiamo from LaTraviata and the Sextet from the Marriage of Figaro while at least 6 feet apart on stage to audiences nestled on blankets or in lawn chairs 20 feet away and 6 feet apart.  “Rehearsing in masks is challenging,” said Riley Spatz, a senior member of YAPP. “But it was a blessing in disguise, there has never been a better reminder to lean on your body or perfect your support,” they concluded.   Karl Resnick,  Founder and Executive Director of the Musical Arts Center said,  “Working in these dire conditions, the pandemic, the heat, the masks, the difficulty of summer schedules, etc. –  working through all of this to get an excellent product is so much more difficult. I’m so proud of  Lincoln, our Director,  Sam, our accompanist,  these incredible students, and the endurance of our wonderful parents. It takes a lot to do this.  They have proven their resilience, and work ethic, in addition to their talent.  Artists have to have all three.  I could not be prouder to provide a performance opportunity or to be a part of their development journey,”

If you would like to attend, there will be two performances:  1) August 6th, 7:30PM at the Beech Acers Amphitheater, 6881 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, OH and 2) August 7th, 7:30PM Anderson Center Plaza, 7850 Five Mile Road, Anderson, Ohio.  For either performance, please bring a blanket or lawn chairs, masks are required, and you are asked to stay at least 6 feet away from other parties.  Tickets are not necessary, but donations are very appreciated to cover expenses of the performance venues and the program.   The performance is approximately 1 hour long and is weather dependent.

About The Young Artists Prepatory Program
Yapp is one of the only high school opera programs in the United States.  Members must be between the ages of 15 and 18 and are selected by audition.  YAPP students represent some of the most talented, classically trained high school vocalists in the tri-state.  Each year several go on to attend top 10 music conservatories, including CCM, The University of Michigan, and Oklahoma City University.  YAPP is directed by Lincoln Chapman, who holds a Masters of Music from CCM, and has himself performed with Her Majesty’s Theater (Australia), Charlestown Symphony, and the Cincinnati Symphony, among others. The Accompanist is Sam Kraus, who holds a BM from CCM and performs with the Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble and Coro Volante Recording Choir.  YAPP is part of the unique training opportunity provided by Cincinnati’s Musical Arts Center.   YAPP training includes the vocal style, improvisation, mock auditions, movement, musical preparation, and dramatic interpretation in a small ensemble setting.  Auditions for the 2021 YAPP ensemble will be held in the first week of September.  Please call 513 321-2766 for more information

The Carnegie’s 13th Annual SUITS THAT ROCK Goes Viral

Suits That Rock logoMonthlong campaign, “Rock On for the Carnegie Kids,” highlights past performances, founder interviews and more

Covington, KY – The Carnegie’s Suits That Rock is back – and this year, the rock and roll good times are going virtual. Replacing its original in-person performance dates of Aug. 28 and Sept. 4, Suits That Rock and its previous twelve years of performances will be celebrated exclusively online over the month of August.

Suits That Rock, is a local music tradition that sees local executives leave the boardroom in favor of the stage – and beginning Saturday, Aug. 1, the 13th edition of the annual fundraising event will move online to continue its support of arts education programming at The Carnegie as well as at more than 60 regional schools. To date, Suits That Rock has raised $1,059,000!

“The importance of continuing to support The Carnegie’s arts education programming necessitates that Suits That Rock continues. The fact that this event has raised more than $1 million over the past 12 years is testament to the one-of-a-kind experience the Suits offer,” said Kim Best, Executive Director of The Carnegie. “While we have shifted online due to the ongoing pandemic, the programming for this year’s Suits That Rock pays homage to the events of the past while ensuring the tradition continues well into the future.”

The “Rock On for the Carnegie Kids” online campaign will feature intimate interviews with founding Suits Paul Bromwell, Kevin Canafax, John Domaschko and Greg Shumate, in addition to performance recaps, Guest Suit interviews, and more. A Suits Fireside Chat featuring the Founding Suits will round out the festivities on Monday, Aug. 31.

Each year Suits That Rock features a select lineup of Guest Suits – and 2020 is no different. Joining this year are: Dan Cahill, Managing Principal and CEO at HSD Metrics; Katie Chadwell, Director of Operations at KnowledgeWorks; Meghan Cummings, Executive Director of the Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation; Chrissy Dunn Dutton, Litigation Partner at Buechner Haffer Meyers & Koenig Co., LPA; Brian Kaeppner, Manager of Enterprise Application Engineering at General Electric; Louis Kelly, Commonwealth’s Attorney for 54th Judicial Circuit and Shari Lauter, Director of Qualitative Operations for Campos.

“As it became clear that we could not safely rehearse or put on a show in 2020, we desperately wanted to recreate at least a little taste of the joy of a Suits That Rock show for our audience, for the kids who benefit from The Carnegie’s arts education programming, and for ourselves,” said John Domaschko. “This series of online interviews and retrospective show clips is a great reminder of the fun we’ve had and the great cause we’ve supported. It makes us even more excited to ‘get the band back together’ in 2021.”

All Suits That Rock virtual programming will be available on the Suits That Rock official Facebook page; donations to support “Rock On for the Carnegie Kids” can be made by clicking here. With previous events selling out in minutes, The Carnegie invites the public to enjoy these select highlights this year in anticipation of returning to a more traditional live Suits That Rock celebration in 2021.
