“I’m just thrilled to be returning to Cincinnati. Last year coming to town and working with these artists was the most engaged new festival we had in the country!” Says 1MPF producing artistic director, Dominic D’Andrea. “There is something happening in this town, between the work the Know is doing, the fringe festival, and other work popping up, along with a growing culture of new play work and playwright: Cincinnati is an exciting place to be. I would rather be working here than anywhere else, and I’m so glad we are doing this work with Know and the community. Our work is about exploring the zeitgeist, and no better way to do that than in this forum”, D’Andrea says.

One-minute plays by established and emerging Cincinnati playwrights were commissioned for this special event, prompted by #1MPF’s unique playmaking process.

The festival will feature work created for 1MPF by:

Directed by Alice Flanders, Brant Russell & Landon Hawkins, Carrington Rowe, Derek Snow, Burgess Byrd, Piper Davis, Rebecca Bromels, & Shelby Becker

The OneMinute Play Festival (#1MPF) is America’s largest and longest running grass roots theatre company, founded by Producing Artistic Director, Dominic D’Andrea. #1MPF is social barometer project, which investigates the zeitgeist of different communities through dialogue, consensus building, and a performance of 50-100 short moments generated by each community. #1MPF works in partnership with theatres and/or social organizations sharing playwright, educational, or community-specific missions across the country. The aim is to create locally sourced playwright-focused community events, with the goal of promoting the spirit of radical inclusion. #1MPF represents playwrights of different age, gender, race, cultures, and points of career. The work attempts to reflect the theatrical landscape of local artistic communities by creating a dialogue between the collective conscious and the individual voice.

In each city, #1MPF works with partnering organizations to identify programs or initiatives in each community to support with the proceeds from ticket sales. The goal is to find ways give directly back to the artists in each community. Supported programs have ranged from educational programming, youth poetry projects, theatre program in prisons, playwright residencies and memberships, playwrights salaried commissions, community access projects, arts workshops, and other social and artistic initiatives.

Annual partnerships have been created with theaters in over 20 cities including: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Trenton, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Baltimore, Boston, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Seattle, Dallas, Austin, Indianapolis, Anchorage, Honolulu, St. Louis, and more, with partnering institutions like Primary Stages, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Second Stage Uptown, New Georges at New York City Center, Z-Space, A.C.T., Trinity Rep, Victory Gardens Theatre, Cornerstone Theatre Company, The Playwrights Foundation, Boston Playwrights Theatre, Actor’s Express, InterAct Theatre, Mixed Blood, Walking Shadow Theatre, Passage Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Kitchen Dog Theatre, Salvage Vanguard & ScriptWorks,  ACT, Perseverance Theatre, Round House Theatre, Honolulu Theatre For Youth, and others.

A Day in the Garden on June 11

A Day in the Garden with Plants and Predators at the Arts Center at Dunham

MISC_Arts Center At Dunham logoCINCINNATI, OH – May 27, 2016 — The Arts Center at Dunham (ACAD) is hosting a Day in the Garden with Plants and Predators on Saturday, June 11 from 10 am until 4pm.

At this free event, gardeners young and old can swap plants, bulbs and seeds from flowers, vegetables, fruits and trees with other local gardeners and pick up new plants for their gardens. Swap participants should bring their plants in a container (pot or bags). The plants should be labelled with as much information, such as light and water requirement, height, spread, color, bloom time, and picture of bloom or mature plant. Plants will be grouped by light requirement.

The swap will begin at 10 am for those who have brought plants to swap. Those interested in starting a garden can come at 11 am to select any remaining plants, bulbs or seeds. Volunteers will be on hand to help place plants and answer as many questions as they can. This is a great way to get a garden started for free.

From 12 noon-2pm, gardeners can attend education presentations. These sessions include “Safe Deterrents for Unwelcome Garden Visitors” and “Attracting Desired Garden Guests.”

The ACAD FREE Family Fun Summer Series kicks off at 1 pm with crafts, snacks and special musical activities. At 2 pm, Raptors, Inc. will feature “Beaks and Talons” with three live avian ambassadors that families can see up close and personal.

All-Liverpool-Born Beatles Tribute Band Extends U.S. Debut Tour

CAA_Mersey Beatles promoAll-Liverpool-born Beatles tribute band extends U.S. debut tour
Meet John Lennon’s sister and The Mersey Beatles

Friday, July 22, 2016
Aronoff Center – Jarson-Kaplan Theater

(Cincinnati, OH) – The Mersey Beatles, an all-Liverpool-born Beatles tribute band and the house band for over a decade at the world-famous Cavern Club, are coming back to the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater on Friday, July 22 at 8:00 PM after a sold-out show last fall.

Tickets are $41.75, $51.75and $71.75-VIP (includes meet & greet with the band and Julia Baird) and are on sale now at www.cincinnatiarts.org, (513) 621-ARTS [2787], and the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. The show is appropriate for all ages.

John Lennon’s sister Julia Baird, author and director of the Cavern Club, will be in attendance selling and signing copies of her book Imagine This: Growing Up with My Brother John Lennon at the general merchandise table before, during, and after the show.

The Mersey Beatles are no ordinary tribute band. The lads grew up as childhood and schoolmate friends, just like The Beatles! They are the official Beatles tribute band representing the City of Liverpool, and from 2002 to 2012, they were the resident tribute band at The Cavern Club, the nightclub in Liverpool, England, where The Beatles perfected their act before launching a global rock music revolution in the 1960s.

Since 1999, the band has played sell-out shows in more than twenty countries, recreating The Beatles’ most popular hits. The show spans the Fab Four’s entire catalogue, with four costume changes and authentic Liverpool accents, wit, and charm. The Mersey Beatles recreate The Beatles’ image and sound with amazing accuracy using replica Hofner, Rickenbacker and Gretsch guitars, and VOX and Ludwig gear.

Photo identification: The Mersey Beatles, and all-Liverpool-born Beatles tribute band, will perform in Cincinnati as part of their debut U.S. tour.
