Part-Time Patron Services Associate Sought by Playhouse in the Park

Job Title: Patron Services Associate – Part-time
Rate of Pay: $13.90 per hour
Ideal start date:  January 24, 2022

Position Overview:
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is searching for several Patron Services Associates to be provide excellent customer service for all aspects of ticketing operations and sales, both in-person and via the phone using the Tessitura arts enterprise system. The position works primarily in the Box Office but will also have required duties in the parking garage (outside), in other public spaces within the facility and at occasional outreach efforts outside the Playhouse.

Reports to the both the Ticket Services Manager and Ticket System Administrator.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, seasonal position. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week and flexibility is necessary. Number of hours per week vary based on performance schedule and can range from zero hours when there are no performances up to 20 hours. The position will require work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends. The 2021-22 season runs until May 22, 2022. During the season, Box Office hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8:00 p.m., Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m. and Monday from noon to 5 p.m. This position may also work 9 a.m. to noon, prior to Box Office opening.

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Sell tickets/products in person and via the telephone to Playhouse patrons using the Tessitura arts enterprise system.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service by proactively responding to the needs of Playhouse patrons.
  • Enhance the development of ongoing and repeat business relationships with patrons. Address concerns and requests promptly, determine ways to improve patron experiences going forward.
  • Collaborate within the department to develop and implement best practices for all patron touch points including ticketing operations, sales, outbound and inbound phone calls, parking attendant
  • Periodically serve as administrative office receptionist when Box Office is closed during business hours.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, data tracking and reporting of patron transactions within the departments using the Tessitura.
  • Represent Playhouse in the Park to the public at events inside and outside the physical building.
  • Assist with system duties in Tessitura. 

Ideal Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency required, including good working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • High school education and above
  • Interest in theatre and the arts is beneficial.
  • A calm, patient, diplomatic, empathetic, confident, and pleasant demeanor in working with various levels of staff, donors, and guests.
  • Comfort with highly sensitive information.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Position is primarily located in a climate-controlled office. The exception is when working as parking attendant outside during performances, which is required of this position. There is occasional offsite work including (both indoors and outdoors).
  • Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination in operation of standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets).
  • Position is generally sedentary, and the employee may sit for long periods of time working at a computer screen (90% or more of their workday). Serving as parking attendant requires standing and moving in an outside environment.
  • Position requires a minimum amount of external activity, but on occasion may require local travel to other worksites.
  • Light Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of supplies, files, etc.: generally, up to 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching.
  • Ability to speak clearly to and hear/listen to employees/clients via phone or in person.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, speak, climb stairs, walk, and occasionally run.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

ETC Hosts Fourth Annual PLAY/WRITE: The Jackie Demaline Regional Collegiate Playwriting Competition

(Cincinnati, OH) Tristate area playwrights, it’s your time to shine! Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati hosts the fourth annual PLAY/write: The Jackie Demaline Regional Collegiate Playwriting Competition, held in memory of writer, critic, and arts advocate, Jackie Demaline. Students currently enrolled full- or part-time at a university or college in the Cincinnati tristate region are welcome to submit their plays to the competition. Dependent upon submissions up to three winners will be chosen. Each winner will receive $2,500 from the Jackie Demaline Fund and a professionally staged reading of their script.

Demaline’s love of the arts started at a young age. Throughout her life, she continued to be a passionate believer in the arts as an entertainment writer and editor for multiple newspapers and publications. After moving to Cincinnati in 1994, she covered theatre and the arts for The Cincinnati Enquirer for 20 years and worked as an important catalyst for change and growth during a time when new theatres and companies were popping up all over Cincinnati, helping to secure their place in the community.

After a four-year battle with cancer, Demaline passed away on June 17, 2018. As her final gift to the community, she arranged for her estate to fund the PLAY/write competition. Through this, her legacy lives on—providing new voice development, kick-starting arts careers, and caring for the community through thoughtful programming.

Submission guidelines:

WHO:

  • Students currently enrolled at a university or college in the Cincinnati tristate region

WHAT:

  • Original, unpublished full-length plays written in English. Translations, musicals, adaptations, and children’s plays not accepted
  • Plays must be typed and page-numbered
  • Subject matter is open, however, the play should address some of the characteristics Jackie considered when critiquing theatre:
    • Does it tell me something I didn’t know about myself or the world in which I live?
    • Does it hold up a mirror at an angle I’ve never tried so that the things I know now suddenly possess new meaning?
    • Does it move me? Excite me? Provoke me?
    • Does it make me laugh or cry? Make me uncomfortable? Make me think?

Purpose of Position The Visual Arts program in the School of the Arts (SOTA) at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Sculpture. The sculpture program at NKU is part of the Spatial Arts area that offers an approach to artmaking which is media diverse and emphasizes both technical skills and conceptual development. We seek a dynamic teacher that can help grow interest in the area with support from ceramics area coordinator and full-time shop technician. The Visual Arts program offers BA and BFA degrees in Studio Art. The position will begin in August of 2022. We are seeking a dedicated educator-scholar to teach in our dynamic, profession-oriented program. A successful candidate should be knowledgeable and proficient in traditional sculpture, contemporary / interdisciplinary approaches and embrace the expanding fields of sculpture.

Primary Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach three undergraduate level courses per semester in sculpture (or other art courses to meet program needs and candidate’s expertise); share oversight of curriculum; maintain creative/professional achievement; service to the university, and community. We encourage exploration of diversity through our topics courses and collaboration across the campus and region.

Additional responsibilities include student mentoring, sculpture studio management, portfolio/senior show reviews, and providing direction and guidance for advancing the University’s strategic priorities of inclusive excellence, student retention, and graduation. Spatial Arts is located in a dedicated facility that includes a state of the art woodshop, metal shop, and foundry. Also housed in the facility are wheel throwing and hand building areas, a glaze room, clay mixing room, and kilns. The spatial arts area has a full-time shop technician/project coordinator to assist students and faculty in the use of facilities and equipment.

Qualifications Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in sculpture or its equivalent in Sculpture, Studio Arts or another relevant discipline, an active professional creative practice in sculpture, a strong exhibition record, demonstrated knowledge of sculpture techniques, and well versed in contemporary/historical practice. Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds and cross-cultural perspectives. The position includes opportunities to shape curricula and be part of a team of committed colleagues and dedicated students.

College-level teaching experience preferred.

Purpose of Position The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a Non-Tenure-Track Renewable (NTTR) position teaching piano, overseeing the piano pedagogy degree track, and coordinating the keyboard area within the Music Program, beginning Fall 2022. The Piano Pedagogy track is designed to help pianists and teachers develop skills in the art of teaching piano and in operating a financially successful independent teaching studio. Curriculum is structured to the study of teaching materials and approaches for students at all levels and in all age groups from preschool children to adults in retirement. Pedagogy classes are interactive and include teaching demonstrations by faculty and students, guest lectures and field trips to independently owned music schools for observation. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, program and school-level service, and academic mentoring. As a NASM accredited program, teaching responsibilities adhere to loads as prescribed by NASM.

Two Part-Time Bus Coordinators Sought by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

Downtown Cincinnati at/near The Taft Theatre

Person 1: Greets buses as they arrive for student drop off and assigns a number to each bus. Works with person collecting buses on Merhing Way and organizes for buses to return for student pick up.

Person 2: Takes first bus to Mehring Way and waits till all buses arrive. Directs buses back to The Taft Theatre for student pick up after performances.
