Cincinnati Black Theatre Company seeking a male actor for the role of Branch Rickey (main character) in CBTC’s production of the hit one-act play, MR. RICKEY CALLS A MEETING.
Actor must be able to play a character in his 60s.
Set in April 1947, the one-act play, both humorous and powerful, concerns Branch Rickey, General Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, who has decided to break baseball’s color barrier by promoting Jackie Robinson to the Major Leagues. But he can’t do it alone. So . . . Mr. Rickey Calls a Meeting with Jackie Robinson at the Roosevelt Hotel to ensure the support of three of America’s most influential Black men: Joe Louis, the World’s Heavyweight Champion; Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, the legendary entertainer; and Paul Robeson, actor and political activist. The meeting of these five great men erupts in a clash of egos, ideas and ideals.
MR. RICKEY is scheduled for February 17, 18 and 19 at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s Harriet Tubman Theater.
